A couple of Saturdays ago, I drove to Beertown to visit two friends. They used to be on my team a couple of years ago. One moved to Brantford and the other one moved to Kitchener after graduating from university. They both work for the same company now. I am the still at the same workplace. Anyway, we last saw one another in December 2018. It was long overdue to get together. They suggested Beertown in Cambridge. I was game for a road trip. I have been meaning to visit the one in Kitchener. However, this one is closer to me. Other than the Don Valley Parkway-Highway 404 being closed this day and the usual sluggishness on Highway 401, I made it here at exactly 2 pm. I left early, thankfully! My friend from Kitchener was right behind me as we waited to turn left at the lights. We both parked in the lot and chatted walking towards the main entrance. There is a ton of parking in this low-key plaza. She had made the reservation for the three of us. We got a nice picnic table on the patio, under a huge umbrella on a hot summer day. She recommended getting a mojito. She knows that I have a love for this drink. I'm happy with coconut rum and mint in anything. Our other friend got there a bit later than us. It was perfectly fine, as we just chatted away. You are asked to jot down your name and phone number on a piece of paper before your food and drinks are prepared. It's for COVID-19 tracking and communication if a case occurs at the eatery. There was a summer seafood menu happening. I was conflicted, as I wanted everything on it. I ultimately ordered the beach boil lobster roll after asking our nice server what else comes with it. You get fries, but you can swap it out for other sides, such as a salad, sweet potato fries, and more. I went with sweet potato fries. My Kitchener friend got pad thai. My Brantford friend got mac and cheese. We both have a love for it. I was frankly torn between mac and cheese, and the lobster roll. It just means that I need to return to try the former! We didn't take any chances when we needed to use the women's washroom. We put on our masks heading there and back. Many customers weren't doing that when moving between the restaurant and patio. Staff always had masks on. Our server and I had floral masks on. We gave a quiet nod of approval that we got them from Gap! Our drinks came first. The mojito was so good. It came with a paper straw that didn't disintegrate during my drink's lifespan. The mint was fresh and nicely muddled. It was a nice mixture of simple syrup, coconut white rum, pineapple juice, and a hint of lemon juice. I got a lime wedge and squeezed it in. The drink was perfect. My lobster roll came next. Beertown needs to change its menu for accuracy. It's plural. I got two lobster rolls that looked massive. I also got sweet potato fries with aioli for dipping. It explains why the price was $28! I love a good lobster roll. The bread was toasty and soft where they should be. The lobster was fresh and generous. It had crushed potato chips. I loved the contrast and the chips worked well. It was extremely messy eating these lobster rolls. I felt like I needed a bib, but I did well under the circumstances. Thank goodness for extra napkins. I snapped a photo of my friend's pad thai. It looked good and she loves it so much that it's her go-to meal here. Sadly, I didn't have a chance to take a photo of my friend's mac and cheese. She chowed down a second after her dish was placed in front of her. She loved it. The portion was also generous that she couldn't finish it all. After my meal, I couldn't look at the dessert menu. I couldn't fit anything in me. I was impressed that my eyes were still open. The women's washroom was clean. You need to wave your hand above the motion sensor to flush. It works well, so you don't look like you're about to take flight to activate it. I had an excellent experience here. It helps to have great company with both yummy food and great service. I decided to go here and was hopeful that the food and beer would be good. I sat at the bar and service was prompt to ask what I would like. I checked out the beer menu and asked for a moment. I decided to grab a can of pale ale that looked and sounded good. I asked to see a menu and made my choices. These were over priced appetizers, I grab the calamari and chicken wings. Turns out to be two terrible choices. The calamari was ok, not really sure why I got it. I think I was just hungry and saw something. I was gonna get a burger, but decided to get chicken wings. This was another BAD choice, they were fried chicken wings with breading. Such as KFC. I was so disappointed, but yet, I was still hungry. The service was good and polite. The food sucked. The beer was good along with numerous choices. However, the Duchesse De Bourgogne on tap was a little bit questionable. Who goes into a sports bar and orders a Flemish brown ale? I also saw Delirium Tremens on tap, another, who orders a Belgium triple at a sports bar? Their beer selection is good, but, tone it down with some of the uppity beers lol. Let me just start by saying their wings are insanely delicious! Definitely the highlight, but everything else we ordered wasn't too good. We ordered the spinach dip with soft pretzels which was good but nothing special. We also got their fish and chips which was flavorless and boring. For someone that loves fries, I didn't enjoy these and its hard to mess up on plain fries. Their ketchup was also very watered down and tasteless. Conveniently close to Highway 401, I met some friends here for lunch. The friend who lives in Cambridge goes here regularly. Service was friendly and did not rush us to leave which was nice because we were chatting. On the other hand, when we were ready to go it took quite a while to get our bill as I think that they moved our server to the bar. We all enjoyed our meals and would definitely return. At our table was a salmon bowl, tuna bowl, chicken Caesar salad and turkey burger with side of kale salad. The words excellent and kale rarely go together, but that blueberry kale salad was magical. We visited Beertown on our way to African Safari and very glad we came here! This felt somewhat like an upscale sports bar. The seating, the service and the food were all phenomenal. We came here to watch the Soccer final on a Sunday and enjoyed every bit of it. We got a mojito, guacamole and a poke bowl. Our sever was awesome and she even offered to split the bowl as two of us were sharing that. The gaucamole was excellent and seat was amazing! I really liked that the bar didn't necessarily offer the typical fried food you would drink with beer, but had some really interesting healthy choices too. The food was a bit pricey compared to a regular sports bar but the quality was good. They have 9 screens making one big screen in the center which made watching soccer uber fun! Our server and the manager were both super polite and attended us often. I recommended this place to anyone who would like to enjoy great food and a fun ambience. read more

Been to Beertown 5 times now when we have visited Cambridge. Different days and different times. The service and food have been impeccable each time. We have been met at the door every time with them opening the door as well. The wait staff have been friendly and helpful with the food menu and have all had a thorough knowledge of all the beers on tap. The manager has been visible in the restaurant helping with meals and cleaning tables every time. He is a great example to the staff. read more

I would have liked to given this location a full 5 stars, but I will admit I was a bit disappointed to hear with my partner when first entering that the beer taps at the tables were not working due to some sort of hiccup from the supplier (as far as I understood the explanation). It was one of the main reasons we wanted to visit... That being said though everything else about the restaurant is great! Dined here with the guys on a Saturday night. Social, upbeat, friendly atmosphere. Excellent beer menu with free samples to try. Exceptionally good service with valued recommendations on both beverage and food. In truth, I was shocked at our young server's knowledge of beer. Her recommendation came after asking my preference. She was bang on: After sampling the Belgian and the Beast from st. jacobs brewery, I found a good one, like REALLY good :) food was equally good. 2 guys had the beef brisket burger, 1 had fish & chips, I had the fish tacos with an upgraded side to truffle parm fries. Other reviews noted small size. All four of us found size quite large. No apps were ordered, and we were all full on the entree. Quality was excellent and price was good too. my fish tacos and 2 pints came to $40+grat. The manager came around part way through diner to check on us. This shows a well run establishment. Lee and I were staying in the general area, and after quite a bit of hemming and hawing and not really being able to make up our minds between several different venues, we ended up picking this place. Like any other remotely decent place, this place is a madhouse on a Saturday night. The wait was at least 30 minutes, so we settled down to wait. We finally got seated at a hightop in the general area of the bar, which was a little bit packed, and was sort of annoying later on when there was a large group behind me, semi-constantly jostling me. We started off with the poutine, because of course we did. As you know if you read my reviews with any regularity, if there's something resembling poutine on the menu I will usually order it. I don't consider myself a poutine expert, but I liked this a lot. Beer selection here is awesome - all local and interesting beers. If you want to try nice micros, this is definitely a place to head to. I really enjoy seeing local businesses working together! So our mains came - Lee got a burger which he enjoyed very much. I had ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and it was a little bit disappointing, all bread and bacon, definitely lacking on the cheese. All in all this is a nice place with decent service. Nice patio. Good food. Lots of beer choices. Add in the top notch graphic design of their menus and this is an easy high review for me. I came with a friend for dinner. It was that unseasonably warm day in early May. We HAD to sit out on the patio, which does a decent job at pretending it's not in the middle of a parking lot. Service was super friendly. I ordered a flight of beer, which is a neat way to drink one beer you like and a few you don't like (but will learn for next time). I ordered the taco trio, which was huge and very tasty. The pork tacos were fantastic, as were the fish tacos (get the grilled rather than the battered, unless you really really like battered fish). The beef was okay. I ordered a salad instead of fries, which was great and not too filling. Good thing because the tacos were very filling. My my friend ordered the wonton chicken nachos or something, which are apparently a big deal at the restaurant's sister location in Kitchener. They were smothered in cheese, so I couldn't sneak any, but she absolutely loved them. This place has a really modern, casual feel. I really love the atmosphere. So there once was a Cubanita from Miami who spent time in Cambridge, Ontario....I'll continue the story later, however on my journey on a cold Tuesday night we stopped to grab some grub here. Two of my colleagues are from Boston and they wanted wings and beer- and they got them-were they raving about it, probably not but everyone went home happy. Honestly- to me it is an upscale pub (nothing wrong with that). If you judge it based on that- I liked the place! They have a vast beer selection- didn't have any sooo no comment. We had the poutin and the goat and mozzarella bruschetta and they were both good. My drinks were kinda weak.. Its a cool hang out, decor is nice. Beertown seems to be an extremely popular place to be on a Friday night in Cambridge. We got lucky, and got a table for two reserved shortly before arriving. However, the staff did seat everyone promptly. Not to be confused with Bier Markt, this place is a chain restaurant with locations in Burlington, Cambridge, London, and Waterloo. I got Mongolian Chicken Sandwich, which was filled with a soft chicken patty, chopped carrots and lettuce. It's sweet and soft, balanced with fresh and firm carrots. I don't have much to say about the Caesar salad that I got as a side, because it was a quite typical Caesar salad. We also tried their pre-selected Sweet and Light paddle, which was a good variety. I liked the Somersby cider, and Erdinger Weissbier and Kronenbourg Blanc beers. Früli Strawberry Premium Beer wasn't as great as I had hoped. Very attentive service really distinguishes this place from other chain restaurants. When the staff sees you approaching the restaurant, they open the door for you. We could order our drinks and the food all at one go rather than having to order drinks first, then wait for them to come again to order the food. Food came out quickly, too. We were promptly greeted and brought to our reserved table (large party). The server was quick to take drink orders and offered the wonton nachos which were really cool. The server recommended the pad Thai, which, from a place called Beertown, I had my doubts. The Pad Thai was fantastic, well presented and filling. The service was above reproach. All drinks were maintained, with blind refills on the pop, and beers exactly when they were one third remaining. Pre-bussing was spot on and the table very clean. I love this place and it's been consistently delicious with great service since they opened. Although I am not a big fan of the skimpy uniforms that the servers need to wear (it's 2019! I'm a bit surprised reading some of the other reviews of this place. This visit was probably my fourth, as I come into town pretty often for business and we've had several team dinners here. Tonight I was dining alone at the bar and I enjoyed the meal. I've sampled quite a few of the items on the menu and can honestly say that I've never had a bad experience. Some of my favorites include the pecan crusted salmon, buffalo blue cheese burger, and the fish and chips. I had the California burger on this visit and it was good, but a little dry since it's supposed to be healthy. The pickled onions were very tasty. The beer selection is excellent, including quite a number of brews that are very rarely seen in the US where I'm from. I really enjoy sampling a couple different beers each time I visit. This is a poor unsuccessful attempt to replicate the Beer Market from Toronto. The beer is beer and is OK , however the food is not good. Pork snitzel is some greasy piece of meat with some batter, the extra crispy fries are not so crispy, the steak is something rubbery with some disgusting topping. This place is my ideal. Great beer with lots of rotating beers, featuring locals and little known breweries. The menu is a bit small, but I've enjoyed everything I've tried. Mac N Cheese and the Brick Blackened Chicken are my absolute faves. And the Chicken club. And fish tacos. OK, I have a lot of favourites here. Amazing servers, too, which always helps. Traveling on business from out of town. Hotel recommended this place. I sat at the bar hoping to have some decent service. Took a while to get service . Eventually got my drink. Many servers in the bar area but still being ignored, but not the other couple. I had to flag down a waitress and gave my food and another double. As a preface to this review, I traveled for work to Cambridge from April through November. The restaurants I am reviewing from this area I have been to numerous times, so my review is off of a compilation of trips and not just one experience. Finally! A place with a ton of beers! Beertown is a very fun place. Lots of drinks, good sports bar, usually a nice sized crowd but rarely a wait. We went to this location at least once a week. Pros: - One of the few places with an enormous beer selection. Dozens of beers on tap, and they are always rotating new beers. - Atmosphere is fun and lively (but not quiet, which some people may not like, but I enjoy the energy. While the Blue Jays were in the playoffs the place was packed) - Food is consistent and usually good -- Wings are yummy -- Spinach and Artichoke is AWESOME -- Ribs are delicious -- Mac and Cheese is a great comfort food and tastes good -- Good burgers, sweet potato fries -- Pad Thai was yummy with a little spice -- Fish tacos are awesome!!! What I like the most about this place is obvious...the awesome selection of beer. It's a great place to watch a Sunday afternoon football game. It does get pretty loud at night when it gets busy.
