Those kept on getting refilled as needed. My steak burrito was delicious, a little messy to eat with my hands, so I ate it with a knife and fork. My brother asked for a chicken quesadilla which was not on the menu and they happily made it for him. My sister in laws taco were delicious too. The food was great, the drinks were really good. Was looking for something other than steak and burgers. Mexican was just the place. You walk in and felt like you stepped into Mexico. Wonderful ambiance and nice Spanish music playing overhead set the tone for dinner. We were seated immediately and the waiter came over and took our drink orders. My husband ordered the passion fruit Margarita and I ordered the Love Paradise which is made with rum. The drink were well made. The place was hoppin, but luckily they found a tiny table for us in the back. It took quite a while for someone to take our order. We were thinking about going to the Buglin' Bull next door but for whatever reason the Begging Burro seemed like more our style. The food was good! They brought free chips and salsa, always a plus. The red salsa was hot and the avocado salsa was really hot, and I liked that, I hadn't expected that it would be, here. Lots of interesting options on the menu. I went with the chicken mole and it was excellent; was served with rice which was really above-average. Family got fish tacos and pastor tacos, I think. I was going to taste them but they ate them before I had a chance. Prices were slightly higher than at places I usually eat, but they were probably not out of line for a touristy city like this. Our server was really friendly; we teased him a bit about there not being any aguas frescas here or any glass-bottle soft drinks. I noticed that at the table next to us, a man had left most of his burrito untouched. He had complained it was "too spicy". So I am going to give you a PSA that Mexican food can be spicy. My only complaint here was that in the basket of (free) chips and salsa, the chips were broken up pretty small. That's not really worth complaining about but it just seemed strange. All the food we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Portions were generous and the service was quick and friendly. The decor and atmosphere were pleasant. I spoke with some locals afterward & was informed that the food there is not the best, but they are known for their alcoholic drinks. I only drank water, lol, so my review is only on the food & service. We arrived when it wasn't crowded, but we stood almost 5 minutes before being seated. We quickly scanned the menu, but waited almost 10 minutes for a waiter. I ordered a pair of chicken enchiladas. The plate arrived & the good news was my enchiladas were truly chicken. The bad news is I kept finding small bones in my chicken. Plus the taste of the enchiladas was very non-traditional & actually not that great. Very disappointing. Walking around downtown Custer looking for something to eat they was a variety of restaurants but then we found the Begging Burro Mexican Bistro & Tequila Bar. We were seated immediately they brought us chips and salsa which the salsa was really good took our drink order. The restaurant was very nice lots of seating. Our server was Carlos and he was outstanding very friendly constantly working I've never seen somebody so dedicated to do his job, he's awesome I ordered the Beet Salad it was mixed greens with grilled chicken mandarin oranges -walnuts -beets -feta cheese- apples and a vinaigrette dressing it was one of the best salads I've ever ate. I live in San Diego, so I have very high expectations for Mexican food and was a little hesitant to come here. The special drink of the night was a mango margarita so I got that and it was very good! For food, I got 3 steak tacos which were a surprise to me to be so delicious. The rice and beans that come with it were bland though. The complimentary chips and salsa were very yummy! The best thing by far was the guacamole, although they must have been running low because we ordered a large serving and all they served was a tiny individual portion. My shrimp fajitas were very greasy and smothered with cheese. Shrimp were the tiny, bay variety. My kids did not like the Mac and cheese, which looked like it came right from a box. My wife said her taco salad was fine; she is a vegetarian and beyond the cheese there weren't any plant based proteins that came with it (seems like beans would be an easy one).
