This location was less than a mile from the hotel we were staying at right in Custer. When they first sit you down, they bring over some chips and salsa's hot and sweet. Those kept on getting refilled as needed. My steak burrito was delicious, a little messy to eat with my hands, so I ate it with a knife and fork. My brother asked for a chicken quesadilla which was not on the menu and they happily made it for him. My sister in laws taco were delicious too. The food was great, the drinks were really good. Service was on point too. I'll definitely be back here again next time I'm in Custer. read more

I'd give this 4.5 if I could - it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had but certainly the best I've ever enjoyed in the Black Hills! Our entire extended family raved about their individual meals, as well as the table side, customized guacamole, warm queso, freshly made chips and salsa, and the beautifully presented ceviche we all shared. I loved my enchiladas suizas so much I didn't offer to share a bite with anyone! The service from Carlos was warm, friendly and efficient, and that's not easy with a party of 12. Was looking for something other than steak and burgers. Mexican was just the place. You walk in and felt like you stepped into Mexico. Wonderful ambiance and nice Spanish music playing overhead set the tone for dinner. We were seated immediately and the waiter came over and took our drink orders. My husband ordered the passion fruit Margarita and I ordered the Love Paradise which is made with rum. The drink were well made. We both ordered the chicken burritos were cooked to perfection moist white meat chicken with rice and beans with a queso sauce on top. The service was spot on. We stopped in here for dinner during our time in Custer. We were looking for something beyond steaks and burgers and were happy to see a Mexican restaurant. The place was hoppin, but luckily they found a tiny table for us in the back. It took quite a while for someone to take our order. Luckily we were entertained with our chips and salsa and drinks for a while. Service was spotty for sure, lots of staff around, but it took a long time for us to get our food. Unfortunately our appetizer came out at the same time as our food. We ordered the nachos- not great and ended up quite soggy. I ordered the burro salad and it was pretty flavorless with way too much queso fresco on there. We were thinking about going to the Buglin' Bull next door but for whatever reason the Begging Burro seemed like more our style. The food was good! They brought free chips and salsa, always a plus. The red salsa was hot and the avocado salsa was really hot, and I liked that, I hadn't expected that it would be, here. Lots of interesting options on the menu. I went with the chicken mole and it was excellent; was served with rice which was really above-average. Family got fish tacos and pastor tacos, I think. I was going to taste them but they ate them before I had a chance. Prices were slightly higher than at places I usually eat, but they were probably not out of line for a touristy city like this. Our server was really friendly; we teased him a bit about there not being any aguas frescas here or any glass-bottle soft drinks. I noticed that at the table next to us, a man had left most of his burrito untouched. He had complained it was "too spicy". So I am going to give you a PSA that Mexican food can be spicy. My only complaint here was that in the basket of (free) chips and salsa, the chips were broken up pretty small. That's not really worth complaining about but it just seemed strange.
