I had a really nice dinner with family here while visiting Custer state park and walking around Legion Lake. The food was delicious, and I felt like it was a compelling value. The staff seemed knowledgeable, friendly, and went the extra mile to be accommodating. I would definitely recommend visiting this place! Ended up grabbing a bite here while visiting Custer State Park this past summer. Ate outdoors with a few of the lake and surrounding terrain. With the sun going down, it was a almost picturesque. This eatery is attached to a shop selling souvenirs, snacks and drinks. Appears to share the same parking lot so that wasn't an issue. Free to boot and no restrictions that I could see. But I didn't look. After shopping and eating, it was back on the road to go look for some wildlife. Service was ok. I say ok as there was a mistake with an order which was offered to another table. The dish wasn't touched but I guess standards are different because in restaurants I've eaten in and work at (in another life), a mistake would be discarded. Who knows what could have been done to the dish - not that I did anything. Just left a sour taste because after the dish was offered to another table, server seemed to go MIA. Almost felt like it was avoidance after the error. So, condiments, refills and service in general took long enough that at one point my friend and I had to go in to ask for things. As for the food - it was ok. It's definitely prepared differently than what I'm used to. So, I have to admit, feeling the food was ok could have been due to this and possibly because the service had went downhill after the error. Would I go back? For the view read more

The family made reservations for Mother's Day based on their menu online. But when we got there, what was seen online was not on the menus that we had we still stayed in order anyway the food was excellent. If we would've came at noon, we would've been able to have the Mother's Day special. But we were able to have the Mother's Day dessert which was carrot cake. It was to die for our waitress was very cordial and accommodating. It's a smaller restaurant, but it is rustic. I'm definitely going back this summer to the restaurant. read more

We like stopping here at Legion Lake Lodge in Custer State Park. We came here for lunch one day while in the park. I ordered the flat bread pizza and my wife got the chicken strip basket. Stopped here today for lunch while visiting Custer State Park. We were able to sit by the windows that look out onto Legion Lake. We had a great server, missed his name but was from Jamaica. I had the chicken strip basket with fries and my husband had the flat bread pizza and a Buffalo snot beer, new favorite. We had a nice lunch. It is the down time here in the park so it was not crowded. read more

My husband and I decided on a whim to try dinner at the Dockside Grill. Our dinners were wonderful. The Pot Roast was extremely tender and flavorful. The Fish & Chips were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The view is wonderful with the lake and people fishing, paddleboarding, and just enjoying the relaxing atmosphere. This is a wonderful place to just enjoy nature while enjoying a well cooked meal. Lily was a wonderfully friendly server and the restaurant is kept neat and tidy. read more

It was supremely a glorious morning riding around Custer State Park. Stopping here and there to take in the glory of nature. As I rounded a corner I see a stunning lake with dramatic rock backdrops and surrounded by pine. I pulled in to stop and take it all in. At first glance the building appeared to be a camp store or park information center. But as I walk into the deck I realize it's a restaurant and they're open! When I walked in I was immediately greeted and was shortly seated. I asked about seating on the deck and was told I could buy was warned about the small army of flies out there this morning. So I poured for a window seat instead. I ordered a water and cafe mocha to drink and later decided on the western scramble which was made with ham, peppers & onions, 2 eggs topped with cheese and dice seasoned potatoes with wheat toast on the side. It took a little to get my order but it was worth it. Everything was delicious and even though I was worried the toast was going to be over done it too was just right. read more

The food was great and super fresh! I had the walleye fish and chips and it was absolutely delicious. My husband said his chicken fried steak was one of the best he's ever had, and when a man from Texas says that, it's serious. We sat out by the lake and it was the perfect evening. Service was provided by one very dedicated server who did a fantastic job all evening making sure every guest was seen to. If you ever have an opportunity to stop for a meal in Custer State Park, check this place out! read more

The chicken strip basket was awful. The chicken was so thin it was all dried out. The cheeseburger was overcooked.

Sat here for 30 minutes without a drink or anyone taking our order. This place is severely understaffed but the food was pretty good. read more

The chicken fried steak was made of mystery meat, way overcooked. The vegetables were closer to raw than al dente. The biscuit was so hard it was impossible to eat. The waiter was pleasant. The buffalo burger was so so. Nothing special. I will pass on it on our next trip, so will my friends. Also we had to fight off the flies. read more

Flys are an issue inside and the service Is a bit slow. Local beers very good and good view.

Service was a little slow and there isn't that much seating for the number of people. We had a large party and only had to wait 20 minute at 2pm. Everything was amazing. The kettle chicken pot pie was worth it. They said they use a lot of black pepper, but I thought it was perfect. The Avacoba salad was very good. I enjoyed the spicy ranch. I have never experienced such rude staff anywhere. We stood waiting to be seated and unacknowledged by staff members. The waiter that took our order was so incredibly rude, I was stunned. We got up and left. We were having such a good time in Custer up until this experience. I would not advise anyone to go there. Horrible. read more

The Dockside Grill was a nice place to see as you travel through the park. The wait to be seated was 60 plus minutes at 6:30pm. There were a lot of open tables, but not enough staff to wait them. Once seated the service was good and the food came quick. I had the "I dare ya" burger which was ok just did not come as explained on the menu. Both kids enjoyed their pot pie and burger. The wife ordered the salad with avocado, but it had 3 of the smallest slices I've ever seen. They also ran out of a lot of the menu items early in the day we were told. I would give it another shot, hopefully next time it's a little better experience. read more

Hope they do better than last year. Stopped in for an early lunch before noon. Got seated. Placed order not terribly long. Then it fell apart - forever to get glass of water. Asked twice for our drinks. Food didn't come. Asked about it: asked manager. Over2-1/2 hours and they weren't full. Waiters and kitchen staff were just overwhelmed- but what can you expect from businesses that bring in foreign workers who don't speak much English, don't train them and give liw pay. And the tourists flock to these businesses, don't know what unethical practices are going on behind the scenes, and are willing to pay the super high prices because they have vacation mindsets. Save your time and money- eat a sandwich from your cooler in the park. read more

After a long day driving around the state park, heading for lunch on the lake sounded like a fantastic idea. We were seated on the patio overlooking the lake and sitting in the shade. It was a perfect day! I ordered the beer battered cod sandwich and my husband the buffalo burger. They came out fast and were both delicious. My sandwich was perfectly fried and crispy and my husbands burger was very tender and flavorful. Our server was great and friendly. Would stop again! read more

Dockside Grill was the bomb after a long roadtrip on Needles Highway. What a hidden gem with microbrews on tap and a scenic lake right off the dining room. We came later in the day appx 7pm and it was not busy. I had the chicken pot pie and a pale ale. Both were fantastic and by far the best meal on this trip. Soup was also great and my wife had the baddered cod. She said it was pretty good. Nice to see some dinners on a menu after burgers the past few days. Good service, great food! Clean and scenic really tops it off. Would of liked to stay longer. If the sun wasnt on the way down we would have rented a kayak. Be careful driving after dark, we came very close to two different Bison on the way to blue bell lodge. Definatley a great stop if you want a great meal. read more

We ate at this grill last night and the service was impeccable, the food was good, and the environment was super fun! We have already decided we will stay at this place for our future vacations! Legion lake resort will be our new spot! read more
