Custer Wolf delivered one of the better, healthier meals we've had in our travels across Wyoming and South Dakota. Unlike so many restaurants we've encountered, they don't rely solely on spiciness for flavor, and they do fish well. The bar also knows beer, and the servers are super friendly.

    Ribeye & Smashed Potatoes

The food was good, but service was "meh". We got the beef bulgogi and a ribeye with smashed potatoes. The salad never came out, so they deducted $4 off the bill. Waiter stopped by once to check on us and we said the salad hadn't come out and he said he'd get one right out.... next thing we knew the bill was dropped. If the service were better, I'd give it 5 stars - the food was VERY tasty.

Wolf Burger and was super tasty. Fries were boring.

I tried the Wolf Burger and it was actually super delicious. The fries were just "okay". The staff was nice but we did notice a theme throughout our meal. The service was very, very slow. It took quite a while to get our food and just as long to get refills on our drinks. We actually had to flag them down and beg for refills. Also, we were there with kids and the place is basically a bar that happens to serve food. So honestly not the best environment.

A bar with not your typical bar food. Located in the heart of downtown custard, this eatery offers indoor, outdoor and bar seating. Exceptionally laid-back, and clearly a favorite of many locals, we were very happy to be seated at the bar and get to know the bartender who made us feel very welcome. The decor is very simple and the focus is on the people and the food. Full bar with many NA options. We were so pleased to find a fish dish that was not breaded, the walleye was exceptional. Wonderful side salads and I was able to enjoy a mixed vegetables with shrimp that allowed me to stick to my diet. The bread pudding was very tempting, but we stuck to our guns! Good value, good food, good people. Check out the customer wolf next time you're in the area.

My husband enjoying his Walleye and his Lost Cabin Beer

We were on a road trip to Sioux Falls SD, and we stayed in Custer, SD for 3 days. On our first day that we arrived friends recommended The Custer Wolf for dinner. We arrived around 5:45 and the restaurant was busy. We had a choice of sitting inside or sitting in the patio outside. We love patio dining so we chose to sit outside. My husband wanted to try a local draft beer, Jason our waiter suggested he try Lost Cabin Beer in a can. It is a local beer that tastes like a good draft beer. He ordered it and liked it! Almost Every time we went out he would order the Lost Cabin Beer. For dinner we ordered the Walleye, it came with a green garlic sauce on top of the walleye with jasmine rice and broccoli. This was one of my favorite meals, the fish was cooked perfectly. We enjoyed our meal, and the patio is not fancy but we enjoyed sitting outside. We highly recommend The Custer Wolf! When you visit this restaurant and you sit in the patio, ask for Jason is a wonderful waiter! He is friendly, has a great sense of humor and is attentive. It was a joy having him as our waiter.

It a nice place, a lot of outdoor seating. The service was great and we had the fish and ribeye..... very good. Definitely recommend, and see why locals recommended it. The homage bread pudding is the beat!

This is going to be a split review. First the good...service gets a 5. These folks HUSTLE! They were so pleasant and even though they were busy kept smiling. Nice job. The food was also a 5. It was terrific. The walleye was flaky and rhe sauce, superb. The green bean appetizer was scrumptious with a sauce that had a nice kick. Now for the less tgan stellar part. The restaurant itself is cute, it has indoor and outdoor seating. We chose indoor but had to contend with such fly distractions that it took away from the experience. Otherwise it would gave been a 5 all around.

A hodge podge of seating arrangements. A bar type area, a middle regular cafe feel and a patio with a variety of furniture seating. Jason was helpful and very friendly, the service here is top notch. My husband had an issue with a salad where he couldn't substitute a dressing they took his salad back no questions asked. I had a walleye po boy not too greasy and flavorful. Recommend it for sure .

Enjoyed dinner at The Custer Wolf. We sat outside because it was busy at the time and that's all they had available, which was fine. It is a covered area that kept us dry despite the rain. I was excited to see Moose Drool on the beer menu, but to my disappointment, it was not available. I had a similar style beer from Wyoming and it was good. I had fish for dinner and it was great, along with the coconut rice. A chill place to relax and have a great meal.

Quick service and tasty food. My dad and I got the walleye po'boys and he got the potato smashers, while I got the coconut rice. The rice did have a strong flavor of coconut, but could've been a little moister. Similarly, the walleye po'boy could've used a little more tartar sauce, but did come with several pieces of walleye and was a very good portion. Prices were reasonable too. 2024 #46

Popular place with a wide variety of choices for dinner--friendly and attentive service (if you…read moredon't see your server, ask another--they clearly work well as a team) and interesting decor. Starter and food, drinks, etc., are brought promptly to the table. This is exceptional in a highly popular tourist area. The food is good but could use a little improvement--the grilled mahi-mahi was good, but a little on the dry sauce and definitely needed a sauce. A couple of the dishes did have sauces, but fish is why most Creole restaurants like Brennan's will serve a sauce on the side, or a topping with butter such as Trout Almandine. It doesn't have to be a fancy sauce--the option of good ol' tartar sauce works. The grilled vegetables also needed a little more butter and seasoning. Carrots are good on their own; broccoli and cauliflower need a little cheese or butter and some seasoning to be loved. The IPA (Long John) was excellent. The beer cheese dip and soft pretzels were to die for; the chardonnay was passable. A great choice for dining in a VERY heavily traveled tourist destination. Get there early--it starts filling up fast and all the restaurants around Mount Rushmore close at 9.

Quite the character made us feel like family, a true asset. We went upstairs to pounding fathers and was greeted by Eric. He gave us the best service we had the ceviche, the walleye, and the arrabiata with short rib. Everything was delicious. The ambience, the food, the service was outstanding if we lived in Custer, South Dakota, we would be here quite often. Thank you Mount Rushmore brewing for a great time.
