First off, the location was super easy to find, which already made the early morning drive less stressful. When I walked in, the salon was BEAUTIFUL. The vibe was straight Black Girl Magic; clean, relaxing, and honestly felt like a little spa moment instead of just a hair appointment. Before the braids even started, her assistant gave me the BEST wash I have had in over 10 years. I'm not exaggerating. It was gentle, thorough, and my scalp felt amazing. You can tell they actually care about healthy hair, not just getting you in and out. My hair was washed and braided in about 3.5 hours, which is incredible for braids. Her assistant was fast and organized, and their whole system just works. No bsing, no waiting around, everything just flowed. I am not the type to sit around 6+ hours to get my hair braided, I refuse! My brain is too hyper for that. I was thoroughly impressed and content with my entire, first experience here. Firstly, the place was very clean and professional-looking. Tay then took me in for wash and blow dry and I must say that I've never experienced someone be so gentle with my head. Now, I have a lot of hair, so I'm used to other hair stylists complain, be extremely rough with me, and busting my neck to blow dry my hair. Tay did wonders, and I'm always going to appreciate her for that (especially since I was initially nervous). Amber, the lovely person I quickly learned she is, began braiding my hair while Tay finished each one afterwards. (Medium knotless individuals) They said they'd get me out of here in 4 hours, and I didn't believe them!! Whenever I know I'm coming to SoCal I always make sure I make an appointment with Amber. She is so good at what she does she doesn't just do hair she learned off YouTube like most her stylist these days, she is very skilled and knows how to grow your hair. I have been seeing amber for years and I love that there is always something good on the tv and she gets me in and out. Whenever my hair is braided people ALWAYS ask me where I went and how long it took. Her specialty is getting you out super quick. She has the fastest hands in the west! Let me begin by saying that I am satisfied with the quality of my hairstyle by Amber and her assistant, Tavia. When I first met Amber, I appreciated the fact that she took 4:00am appointments and had me completed within 4-5 hours. She and Tavia braid very fast and were professional when it came to the production of my braids. However, what I did notice is that Amber speaks upon the personal disappointments she has with family, friends and customers amongst other customers in the shop. During my last appointment I was privy to a conversation that was not only personal to her, but was completely unprofessional. I didn't appreciate knowing how she felt about her family members and their visit to the Sizzler and how that affected her feelings. But I sat quietly and listened during my appointment while she vented. As usual, before leaving the shop, I made my next appointment with Amber. Tavia her assistant, DID NOT make my appointment. Amber would never trust Tavia to make her appointments for her (if you know Amber at all, you would know she is too anal for anyone to manage her schedule). My appointment was made for Tuesday, September 14th. Yesterday I texted Amber to ask a question about changing the color of my braids during my next appointment. Amber called me to inform me that I don't have an appointment on her schedule. At that point, instead of us figuring out how to rectify the situation, Amber went on to argue and insult me. She then went on to say she would call me back after she talked to Tavia about the scheduling conflict. She called me back only to say she doesn't make mistakes and she does not think she will be able to do my hair again because the trust in our business relationship had been broken. I hung up the phone confused about why she was so angry about the miscommunication and why she didn't simply take responsibility for the mistake. I am not saying the customer is always right however, I am a professional, I don't have a personal relationship with Amber and anyone can make a mistake. All this to say, Amber has some benefits to the way she runs her business. However, she should take a step back and reevaluate what her clients mean to her business. To Amber: I hope you will see this review as an opportunity to adjust your client/braider relationship. My last appointment cost me $550 for individuals that most people can do for $250 or less. Everybody understands that braiders come and braiders go, but the way you treated me today was less than professional. I am disappointed with the way this has turned out and I will no longer recommend you to my family and friends. read more

My last 2 visits I got medium length individual braids in approximately 3 hours and I always receive compliments about the neatness and consistency of my braids. Amber and Tavia are a great team. Amber and Tavia were amazing. I was able to get an appointment at 4 am to get knotless braids and was told that this service would take 3 hours. I have been going to Amber to get my hair braid for 10+ years and as long as she is braiding she will always be my number one braider. She has the perfect touch while and I am never leaving with headaches due to my hair being pulled too hard. She is very consistent with her braids from visit to visit so I always know what I am going to expect. Amber and her team is beyond AMAZING, I called for emergency help with my daughters hair (after swimming in a pool her hair was matted and I tried my best to detangle her hair for 6 hours to no success). I've been a client of Behind My Chair consistently for a little over a year and Amber and Tavia are nothing short of amazing. When I started visiting Amber my hair was short and brittle by my fourth appointment (I get my hair braided every 5-6 weeks) I could put my hair in a ponytail which I hadn't been able to do because one I don't like taking care of my hair and two, i have been on dialysis for several years and I believe some medication I'm prescribed during treatment initially caused my hair to shed. I usually choose her 4am appointments that always begin on time and I am leaving at the latest by 8:30am with a full head of long medium individuals. I'm busy with work and treatment all the time and Amber and Tavia make sure to not waste any time getting me in and out. I have other friends and family who are professional women who unbeknownst to me also are clients which is even more amazing. These ladies are worth every dollar I spend with them.
