So welcoming and friendly, this was my 2nd visit & my 2nd wonderful service. I am new to braids and was so overwhelmed because I was getting ready for major surgery. With my upcoming neck surgery they were going to be shaving the back of my head & I will be unable to brush my hair (about 24") for several months. I had no idea what service I should book for, when I called Ebony was able to book me an appointment for box braids using just my natural hair. The next day I had my appointment with Alexis and she was great about asking for what I wanted and she also explained what to expect. The appointment was great and I was so glad I made the decision to start my journey with them. I'm appalled at the lack of professionalism and manners I experienced here. Before my appointment, I sent Ebony a picture of the Fulani braids with subtle boho I wanted and asked for a quote. She gave me a price for the style with cornrows up top and a separate price for the style with stitch braids (captured through text message). I paid a deposit to confirm my appointment. I was a new client and could not book online because the booking website was down. I also asked for a services and price list a couple times which I did not receive, so the only price I could go off of was the price the owner texted me. As soon as I walked in, my stylist began complaining that Ebony had told her I was coming right as she was leaving, asked why I couldn't come earlier despite my appointment being made a week in advance, and vented that she had plans to braid her grandson's hair. As a client, I'm not sure why I was told any of this. While I was getting my hair braided, Ebony texted saying I owed more than what we agreed on. I hadn't gotten the stitch braids or added a wash and blow dry, so I let her know what I actually owed based on our original quote. The stylist called Ebony and put me on the phone. Ebony admitted she made a mistake, said she didn't realize I was getting boho, and tried to add an additional charge. She gave several different reasons for the price increase including that she likes to give a range in case the client changes their style, which I didn't. I also pointed out that it wasn't really a range but rather one price based on whether I got cornrows or stitch braids. I asked her to clarify a couple of times because her reasoning wasn't making sense. She eventually told me she wasn't going to go back and forth because she has 5 babies at home. Not sure what that has to do with the pricing discrepancy. I told her I wasn't comfortable paying the new amount and would be sending what we originally agreed on. She said "don't even worry about it since you don't wanna send it, I'll make sure my stylist gets paid." At that point the stylist began full on screaming at me, calling me rude, disrespectful, etc. (captured on video). This was never about the difference in price. I would have gladly paid the amount had it been communicated to me upfront. You cannot retroactively increase a price after a service has already started because of a mistake you made and expect a client to be okay with that. There is nowhere you can go where that is acceptable. It is also never acceptable to scream at a client. It's so hard to find a good braider in LA and it's disappointing because myself and my whole family were hoping we could start coming here. 1 star because the stylist was talented and she apologized for screaming at me. Edit: I sent pictures of 2 styles, not 3. The first was the style with subtle boho to clarify what I wanted. The second was to clarify the length. (Also captured in text message). It's worth noting that the second photo did have fuller boho. If Ebony believed that picture indicated I wanted that style, that was her opportunity to clarify any additional charges before my service began. She didn't. It's also worth noting that my stylist confirmed Ebony sent her the correct reference photo, meaning there was no confusion about the style I was getting. read more

Initially I was upset due to lack of communication regarding my initial appt to get my hair prepped for my wedding day. Original stylist had an emergency that I wasn't aware of until after I arrived. Then I was told to come back later that day and someone else had to help me. She was very helpful and did a great job prepping me for my wedding. I don't know what happened between 3 years and now, but let's just say that this past experience will be my last. I received a message from Booksy to schedule my appointment with this business. And being that I wanted to get a trim before I put braids in my hair for the summer, I thought that it would be an opportune time to schedule a wash and silk press. I originally booked the appointment for 6/11 at 9am. Ebony reached out through text and asked if I could change my appointment to 10:30am. That was fine for me. However, I had already put in my payment information to be charged for a deposit through the Booksy website ($41.26). Ebony said she doesn't charge for the deposit until she confirmed (which she did confirm for the 2nd booking). Then I got a text saying that she required a $51.20 deposit for all services and she charges a $25 late fee if the client is 30 minutes or more late. Okay fine. So she confirmed my appointment but said that she didn't charge me on the Booksy so I had to send her the deposit on cashapp. The whole text message conversation was confusing because she also stated that she charged a $20-$30 washing fee. For a silk press? Then she said that was included in my service so I don't know why she even stated that. So the day comes for my appointment. I was running about ten minutes late and text Ebony right away. No response. I showed up to the salon and said I was booked for Ebony and the other ladies there said she hadn't shown up yet. They called her telling her I was there for my appointment to which I then got a text from her email saying to the deposit "concerning the late fee". Excuse me? First of all, I was only 12 minutes late, not 30 minutes like her initial email stated. So I don't see how that applied to my service. Okay now for the actual service. My hair "wash" was more like a gentle massage. I didn't feel any product touch my scalp at all. She didn't even wash the nape of my neck. Then she asked me if I wanted to have a conditioner. Ummm, yes that's usually what comes next after washing hair. So she slaps some conditioner on and sticks me under the dryer for 30 minutes. They tried to charge me extra for that. Are you kidding me? The blow drying was terrible. My scalp was still wet and then the other lady decided to still press my hair with a wet scalp. I couldn't tell you how many times she burned me. I got a basic bump an curl. It doesn't matter because it's all going into braids ASAP. Still, I don't understand how I had the best experience here 3 years ago only to receive the worst service today. Lastly, when it came down to payment, I asked the lady who do I pay since Ebony never showed up and I gave her the deposit. She called Ebony and then came back to me saying I owed $75 more dollars. Now let's do the math here. I paid her $51.20 for a deposit, my silk press was $85 and then I got a trim. She said they told her I had a deep conditioning treatment. No ma'am stop it. Putting conditioner on hair and being put under a dryer isn't a "treatment". But they tried it though. I paid her the remaining of what I owed for the press plus the trim and that's IT. I won't be back. Side note: the other customer was in there for braids today and said Ebony did her the same way. She had been going to her for 6 years. Ebony is talented but doesn't keep her appointments. She asks details about the style you want & gives you an estimate. Then on the day of the appointment, she makes an excuse as to why she's unavailable and tries to give you to a stylist that is unlicensed & doesn't work at the salon. The unlicensed stylists must pay her to do this. It's a contracting situation that I usually ignore, but I'm over it. She's done it to me 3x already. If you choose not to let the unlicensed stylist do your hair, she'll say that you canceled & won't return your deposit. Or she'll agree if you complain enough, but if I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a service I'm not forcing anyone to do my hair. Nor do I want someone's hands in my hair that feels forced to do so. read more

I went to Ebony and got 6 braids that still, nearly two weeks later, look stellar! She got through my matted hair so easily, washed it, conditioned it, and braided it up. I was in need of a change for the summer so I found this place and they were very accommodating to me, i called and was able to come in the same day! Ebony and Laconia are great at what they do! They even recommended a place I could go buy the hair from which was right down the street and I was able to find 30 inch platinum blonde and a frontal. I had the hair installed by Laconia and the frontal done by Ebony I love the way it turned out! After a few days my hair started coming out of the braids on the bottom because my hair texture wasn't holding the braids so I let them know and they set up another day for me to come and have it reinstalled.
