Absolutely love this salon (Katie is the BEST)!!!! Super easy to request an appointment, online or through text. Salon has a small parking lot in back (or street parking on the side). I have been dying my hair for years. I had other stylists before but my normal stylist moved so I was looking for a new stylist to go too. I have very dark and thick asian hair so its hard finding someone who can bleach and tone my hair correctly. I found Natalia in 2021 when she was only an apprentice. My first session was a full balayage and it was the blondest I have ever been. A few months later I decided to dye my hair bright red. No idea why I decided to do it but wanted a change and she did it beautifully. I decided I didn't want the maintenance so we had a conversation and went dark. Now I haven't liked my natural dark hair since 2014 and she made me love it again. Ive gone back for touch ups ever since and she always answers my dm's in a timely manner. She also always styles my hair and makes me leave feeling beautiful. She listens to what I want and she sets me up with realistic goals to keep my hair healthy. All the employees are extremely kind and hype up both me and Natalia while doing my hair. It can be loud at times between the amount of people and music but I never have felt uncomfortable or overwhelmed. read more

I tried this place out based on Instagram posts and speaking with reception about my expectations for cut and color. The perception that I had from Instagram and conversations, I expected a high end salon with cutting edge techniques. 1st red flag. When I arrived for my appointment, I was met with the opposite. The employees of BTH were throwing around a beach ball and drinking (in the early AM). I tried to be open minded and thought, ok they're trying to give a fun experience (maybe?). If you're like me and looking for a little more serious place, BTH isn't for you. Second red flag. My stylist cut my hair dry! No washing it, just straight from the street, dry (my hair is naturally wavy). She called this her "special technique". I think this place tries to make up "cutting edge experience". I'm not a stylist, but in my 20+ years of experience in actual high end salons- this has never been a technique used. I stayed for the hair dye process because I figured she would cut it after it was wet. The hair dye process. I was left in the chair while my stylist took on other clients. This might happen with more experienced stylist (understandable, because they are experienced in timing) but mine wasn't experienced. My blonde hair became purple and had breakage. End experience: There was no final cut, my hair was purple/damaged and the owner Olivia couldn't be bothered. Olivia made me feel like I was the problem; Instead of listening to my concerns. Olivia is the type of owner that will look you in the face and truly not give any care. To me, that's just bad customer service and in general a bad person. BTH isn't worth your time or money. DO NOT GO HERE. Worst hair experience of my life. Crazy, unprofessional, mean, unhelpful, terrible, cocky. Owner Olivia is literally the most unprofessional. They're all so stuck up and don't take accountability as many of the reviews also state. Where do I start? I went to this place to try something new as they have awesome pictures on Instagram. Should have looked here first because it looks like I'm not alone. My hair stylist was very nice and spent a lot of time in the beginning chatting with me. Unfortunately, she did a very poor job coloring and cutting my hair. Maybe she had a terrible day but it's the way the salon handled my experience that is the bigger issue. I asked for full balayage and ended up with random extra pieces bleached and toned poorly with a terrible trim. She grabbed my hair in random handfuls and did not have any strategy in how she was cutting. I asked for more blunt ends and she literally put all my hair in the front and cut across. I even asked if she'd like me to stand or anything because I was so confused. Usually, when people cut dry they straighten your hair first which was also not done. Random pieces were cut wet and random dry. I've gotten both wet and dry cuts before and both are fine when done correctly. The front two pieces she kept cutting uneven and I kept asking her to fix it until I was worried they were too short and I asked her to stop because it was just getting worse. I tried to stay optimistic. She had asked me if I liked the color when she dried it and the lighting in the salon was so poor so we went to the bathroom for better lighting. I pointed out a few things but tried to be nice and just agreed with her hoping I was wrong and being over critical. We go back she does the rest of the cut as described and then she literally walks away. I asked if anyone was going to style or anything so I could see what it looked like and she was like "oh I'll see if a stylist is available." At this point she walks away, a stylist curls my hair and she never follows up. Looking back I can tell she wasn't happy with the outcome or something. I leave and check my hair out in daylight the following day and notice how horrible the cut and color are. I follow up with the salon and this is where it gets really bad. I tell them that I am uncomfortable with the same stylist touching my hair and they said the owner can fix it. They give me a date 40-50 days out... I said that won't work for me as I'll be out of town and would like my hair fixed sooner like any normal person??? After a bunch of back and fourth and no solution other than them offering I see the original stylist I stop trying. I share my experience on social media and am then harassed by the salon via MULTIPLE of the stylists. I have NEVER in my life experienced ANYTHING like this. I was literally gaslighted by a salon I paid money to for a service. I even asked for a refund minus the products I bought so I could go somewhere else to get it fixed and they said no. They told me I was crazy, unwelcome and called me many names for providing feedback. They said I was wrong and the stylist did a beautiful job and they don't see anything wrong with it. Super unprofessional and just mean and immature. No thank you. read more

I really wanted to love this salon and there were definitely some great aspects to it. I was immediately greeted with a mimosa which was great after work. My stylist was amazing in the sense of how friendly and eager to listen to my request. She was really sweet and I have nothing against her whatsoever. This was also my second time dying my hair so I was also really nervous. I left the salon loving my hair because the way she styled it looked great but when I got home I was a little stunned. When I put my hair up in a pony tail I realized that there was no subtle fade from my brown roots to the blonde in my hair. I showed her pictures of how I did want a subtle fade and it wasn't exactly what I got. I contacted my stylist hoping for her to be able to fix this since I already paid so much money but she told me I had to pay additionally. I'm sure it wasn't up to her and it's company policy but I was surprised that I would need to pay extra for her to be able to fix this. It was my 1st time going to this salon and the stylist did just what I asked (single process color and a good trim). It was simple with my long hair and the color was spot on. $125 total which is about what I expected. The actual salon was a bit over-the-top and the music was super loud. It caters to a specific cliental and seems to have a loyal customer base. I'm not sure if I will return for my next cut because the salon was a bit overwhelming for me. I felt a little of place and though the stylist seemed nice we didn't chat a lot. I felt a bit rushed out of the chair and some ends of my hair were a bit chunky. I specifically asked how much it was going to cost and what was included (wash and dry). The girl on the phone said it would cost $50. Not bad, seemed on par with everything else around me. I get to the appointment, I had Ariana, get my quaraintine hair cut and had a lovely time. She was great as was/is my cut! Upon check out though she told me it was $65. When I told her that I speciailly asked the cost and was told $50... she said "$50 is the new stylists costs, mine is $65". I was extremely frustrated. I told her that girl quoted me $50 and that she knew she was booking it with Ariana The salon should have paid the difference for their mistake. Ariana should have tried to see if there was anything they can do, but she didnt. I have never paid (with tip) that much money for a cut in my entire life. They lost my trust and I will not return. This salon is super cute and trendy and the staff are so nice! I got my hair cut for the first time since quarantine and wanted to cut 2-3 inches off to shoulder length. I showed my hairdresser a picture from the BTH instagram page for inspiration. I asked for an angled short cut (longer in the front). The stylist, who was lovely, cut my hair and when finished didn't show me the side or back with a mirror. It was much shorter than I originally planned, but was okay with the length... Then I got home and took a look at all sides in the mirror and was shocked. I have honestly never gotten a more uneven cut. My short bob had no angle forward (in fact the front was shorter) and was uneven all over. The cut was also extremely boxy and was not flattering at all. I never call salons back and complain, but I had to for this cut. Unfortunately, they were not able to refund me but offered for the owner to cut my hair, which I politely declined. I had to call my normal hairdresser and went to him two days later to clean it up. read more

I love Lauren at BTH. She does a phenomenal job on my hair every time. I have seen her 3 times for a full highlight and each time have wanted to do a subtle color change to fit the season/ trend and she always nails it from a more natural blended look to a dramatic look. I would not recommend this salon for people with naturally curly hair. My stylist wet my hair beforehand, so she was unable to use the Deva method and cut my curls according to their natural patterns. I ended up with a section of hair right in front that's about 3 inches shorter than the rest. While diffusing, she realized she messed up and had to wet my hair again and start over. Overall, I got the impression she didn't really know how to work with curls, and now I have to wait months for it to grow out again. Edit: The response from the owner is to assure me that multiple BTH stylists are Deva certified. Deva cuts are only done on dry hair, and the hair is only supposed to be washed after cutting. The cut I received couldn't possibly have been a deva cut for this reason. I specified when I scheduled my appointment that I needed a stylist who has been trained to work with curls and was still made to see someone who can only cut straight hair. The owner also claims to have reached out to me, but I've received no calls, texts, or voicemails from them. I'm livid that I had to pay $65 for a botched haircut, and I would strongly encourage anyone with curls to avoid this salon. I'm sure there are many other salons in the Boston area that have similar prices and can actually handle curls. read more

This weekend was my second time going and I had a new stylist to the team, Ashley, who did a better job to my hair than I even imagined was possible. I do not recommend this salon. After being charged $175 for extensions, I had to call and cancel my appointment as I was called out of town for work. I called two weeks in advance. When I returned, I called to pick up my extensions was told that would not be possible and I would not receive a refund. They offered for Vanessa to assist me, but she was the whole reason I would not return. Interestingly enough, if my extents were not there, how would she be able to do them? Interesting and a flat out lie. After calling five times over an eighth month period, the owner finally spoke with me to inform me that he would not refund me and they would not give me my extensions, that I paid for. I have no problem paying for a $500 haircut, extensions, nails, etc. However, to be swindled out of $175 is unacceptable. Oh and one more thing, the computers were a nightmare when they opened and the owner had the audacity to ask me to prove I cancelled me appointment. I most certainly did, two weeks in advance. How would you proceed if you were me as a business owner? I have never and will never treat a patient, customer or an employee in this way. It's a shame that place had promise. Olivia has been doing my hair for the past four years now (before she even opened BTH) and I honestly wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. This girl knows what she's doing and when she does my hair I feel like I'm getting a built-in therapy session because she's so easy to talk to. I have naturally dirty blonde hair and I usually get a balayage done (sometimes partial foil) and Olivia does an amazing job every time. Nothing special beside a cool looking place. This review is only for a haircut. It was fine but not what I asked for and was charged $15 more than the price on the website. Make sure to ask how much your cut would cost because my friend got a trim and was also charged $65. The "blow dry" was nothing special either. I would recommend a different place for a haircut. Edit: I spoke with someone from the salon that claimed the prices were updated but not on the website. And the prices includes a shampoo, cut, dry and style. But the shampoo wasn't anything special and the I could've done the same blow dry. I wasn't given the option to "style" my hair. I'm torn about writing this review, but I feel it's only fair that people hear about the good AND the bad experiences. Let's start with the "good": I personally liked my stylist as far as how friendly she was, how many questions she asked me, and how comfortable she made me while cutting/coloring my hair. Now, the rest... when I initially left the salon, I THOUGHT I was happy. The color looked good and the cut looked somewhat like what I wanted. However, when I got home and over the next few days, I realized HOW far off it was from what I asked for. (Pictures included to show what I asked for vs. what I ended with.) Let's start with the color: I went in asking for two things. (1) to cover the few grays I'm starting to get, and (2) to add some "dimension" to my hair since plain dark brown can get a bit boring. I was open to balayage but expressed MULTIPLE times that I wanted it to be subtle and was not looking to go blond or red. I was OK with a very slight color change, and was even given that expectation beforehand from the stylist as I had used at-home hair dye a couple times before (I know I know... bad me!). When I saw it in the salon, it looked subtle and it looked like I got the dimension I was asking for. Over the next week or two, I noticed the color is NOT subtle in the back. Some areas look straight up brassy red, and some areas look like actual blond highlights. I was very clear that I was NOT interested in having blond in my hair. I give the color 3 stars out of 5 because it's not horrible, but it's not what I asked for. Now... the cut. I was looking to lose some length. I had very long, thick, heavy hair and wanted to lighten the load a bit. I told her my hair doesn't curl well, so I was looking to go a bit shorter, but wanted to keep layers all around. I showed a pic (included here) for reference. She was great about even asking and confirming if I was happy with the length. And layers were added to frame the face. What I didn't realize until I got home is what the back looks like. The back is SHORTER than the front, so even though I was okay with the length from the front, it almost looks like a have a long, angled bob cut, which is NOT what I wanted. It's it VERY straight and blunt across the back, and if there are layers, they are not visible to me. When I worked with another stylist the next week for a photoshoot at work, her comment was that the stylist I worked with seemed to not have experience with thick hair. I didn't even know that was a thing, but I seriously dislike the cut. The cut gets one out of five stars. In fairness: The salon did reach out to me for feedback and I didn't reply. One because I was still trying to give it time to see if it grew on me (no pun intended), and two because I didn't want to hurt my stylist's feelings as she was super nice. The salon is clean, modern, and very hip. That being said, I will not be going back. I'm definitely not going to go back to another stylist and have the super uncomfortable moment of "why didn't you come back to me?!" with my last stylist. Hoping to find somewhere I like soon, but this was a miss for me. read more

Where do I begin? BTH is the without a doubt the best salon in the Boston area. I had been coloring my hair black for about 5 years, and wanted to transition to blonde for my wedding. I had a consultation with Lisa, who is the perfect stylist if you have thin hair like me. I showed her my end goal of what I wanted. Lisa demonstrates sincere integrity and genuine concern as she did not want to damage my hair throughout the color correction process to blonde.
