We have been going here for over 20 years. It is one of our favorite places when we want a great sit down meal, without feeling like we have to be dressed up. Used to be one of my favorites on the Westside. Maybe I was there on an off night. The rice was regular white rice and was under cooked. My General Tao's chicken was soggy, sweet and definitely not spicy. Just meat, no veggie and skimpy on sauce. The Beef Lo Mein was just okay, again not much sauce, a few veggies but a good amount of beef. The Lo Mein sauce was underwhelming and lacked of flavor. These are both dishes I've ordered from Beijing many times over the past 30 years. I ordered eggrolls also just OK and the crab Rangoons were awful. They shouldn't call them crab meat rangoon's tasted like a block of cream cheese in a wrapper and fried. I opened one up and didn't see anything beside cream cheese - no green onion or crab. I threw away 5 1/2 Rangoons in the trash. Will I go back, of course, i've been going there since the 90s and this is the first time the food has been so terrible. I actually don't remember a time the food was even mediocre. The restaurant looks clean and the staff is friendly. They also give a 4% discount for paying with cash instead of the normal charge it a 4% fee for using a card. read more

Asked for extra pork for a charge and I actually got a noticeable amount of extra pork. Everything was in the takeout bag without having to ask. Service was good and food was good. read more

I keep coming back because I enjoy the food and the price is reasonable too. The menu offers good variety and the portions are generous. I find the service and food is always prompt. This is not a big facility but I don't have to wait in line. It is always clean and the waiters are attentive. I notice they have pretty active take out and delivery orders. I like it! read more

I'm not sure what to say. The food is good. The servings are generous. We generally go for Sunday noon lunch. I ask them to keep the soup or I couldn't finish my meal. The prices are RESONABLE and I'm a cheapskate. The people are always helpful and the place is clean. I don't know what else a person could want in a small neighborhood, Chinese Restaurant. wow! Pleasant surprise. I had never been here and was scared to try out a new Chinese place. I will definitely be back. the price is amazing, they included tea with the dinner. the gentleman was nice. $19.75 for two and it's some of the best Chinese food I've had in the Cedar Rapids area. Maybe it's just growing up with this place, but it's my top choice for Chinese food in Cedar Rapids. I went here for my birthday dinner for like 18 years and it's still great to come home and stop by for lunch or dinner. They also are super efficient about take out. read more

Beijing was one of the original tenants of Edgewood Plaza when it opened nearly 30 years ago. We used to come here often when we first moved to town and I forgot they were still here. The interior hasn't changed much from what I recall but the ownership appears to have changed. I made my first visit in decades last month and a second today. I had the Garlic Shrimp the first time and was not impressed, quite bland and under seasoned. I thought I'd give it another try and had the General Tzo chicken today. Although it was prepared a little differently than I'm accustomed to, it was flavorful. The lunch specials are around $7 and include an egg roll and soup. Not in my top 5 choices for Asian in the area but it's OK. With so many good options in the area now, I probably won't become a regular again. read more

We made the mistake of trying this place again last night. At 6:30pm Friday night it had only one other table of people when we arrived. It filled up soon after. Everyone who came in up 30 minutes after us received their food. The people in the booth behind came in after us, ordered, ate and left before we even received our food. Their were four of us: two ordered entrees and two shared a soup order. We were very clear that the soup was our meal and please bring it out together. 30 minutes later the soup arrived, then 45 after ordering the entree's rice arrived. A full hour after ordering one entree arrived. 10 minutes later we asked about the other entree - "We are working on it" another 5 minutes and surprise ! It arrived. The soup dishes sat there a full hour after we finished as two of us sat wait for the other to two eat. Awful service and just so-so food. read more

Worse experience ever!!! We waited over 5 mins for staff. We barely got any rice. We didn't get offered drinks. We constantly had to get up and go to the waitress if we needed something. When we asked for the check she didn't even come to pick it up. We left the money on the table and walked out. Horrible experience and never going back. read more

Usually pretty good although the service can leave some to be desired. Ordering a soda results in a can of pop, not that uncommon for a smaller Chinese restaurant, but not common when they have a wait staff. Never busy so you can usually get in very quickly. read more

I made one request with my order. Steamed rice instead of fried rice. Got home and found my meal had fried rice. I understand mistakes happen but I rarely get the chance to get Chinese takeout. We were uncomfortable as soon as we walked in the door because there was no staff for about five minutes and when the lady came out she didn't even greet us or say a word to us. She made hand gestures and we didn't quite understand so we just said we wanted a booth. There was one table that was seated at this point. We didn't expect like high speed service or anything but the table that was seated after us got their drinks and ordered before we did. We ordered a garlic chicken and two orders of sesame chicken. Beijing is by far my favorite chinese restaurant in Cedar Rapids! The recipes are fabulous and have been the same for years and years. I have been coming to Beijing's for over 20 years and wish I lived nearer so I could go everyday! Best egg rolls, and crabmeat ragoons hands down! The rating reflects the food only. The customer service was excellent: the waitress was cordial and accommodating. The food, however, was awful: We had the Orange Chicken and Twice Cooked Chicken - portions weren't bad, but the dinner only came with a side of either white rice or 'lo mein'. The lo mein was literally just over-cooked noodles, plain. No seasoning or vegetables at all. The white rice was just minute rice, which is fine. The dinners were overly salty. The Orange Chicken had more breading than chicken, and the Twice Cooked Chicken felt lacking in meat. I'm not a food critic, but I know what Chinese food should taste like, and this tasted like someone with only a vague knowledge of American style Chinese food or cooking attempted to make these meals. Almost two hours for delivery, they sent the wrong order. We ordered sweat & sour chicken and shrimp with lobster sauce and ended up getting Mongolian beef and something that was pork and rice. The food tasted like dog food and when I called the guy, he was a complete jerk saying he's been in business for 10 years so he doesn't care and he hung up. Their website says $10 orders get free delivery, our order was over $20 and they charged a $3 delivery charge. The guy said someone must of put that on his website but he didn't so he wouldn't honor the free delivery. Will never waste my time or money with this place again! read more
