I'm pretty certain my last order of dumplings were from Costco. I've tried the Costco dumplings and they are horrid, small and way too crispy. China Gardens dumplings are usually large and just doughy enough. I bit into the first one and knew immediately they were store bought. So sad as their dumplings have been my favorite in town. Won't order them again. Sad to see them cutting corners on quality though I'll admit they held out longer than most places. read more

Very dissatisfied with my carryout from here. Crab Rangoons were all cream cheese with the tiniest shaving of crab and no flavor. Egg roll also lacked in flavor. The real disappointment was the lemon chicken. The breading around the chicken was nearly twice as thick as the chicken itself, and it was so hard, it was difficult to bite through. Though the lemon sauce was fine, it was impossible to eat with the over breaded and over fried chicken. Ended up throwing most of it out as it was inedible. Will not be returning. read more

After seeing the rave reviews pour in for this place, I was super excited because I have yet to find a good Chinese carryout spot in our area and this one is in North Liberty, which is close to home. My partner called to order the food and everything seemed to go off without a hitch. No issues ordering over the phone, our order was ready on time (within 20 min of calling), and we received everything we ordered when we went to pick it up. Here's a breakdown: -Sesame Chicken: A little on the sweet side for my personal taste, and not as crispy as I like (carry out problems) but I would order it again. -Beef and Broccoli: The sauce was good, but our particular order was heavy on the broccoli and pretty skimpy on the beef which made me sad. Would be interested to see if the beef to broccoli ratio is more balanced in a regular sized order (we got a small). -Lo Mein: Salty and delicious. Could probably use a few more veggies but I was hangry and woofed this down. It did its job. Would order again. -Crab Rangoons: Delicious. These are obviously always better fresh but they were still yummy and I would order them again. THIS. IS. OUTRAGEOUS! Why have I not heard about this place? Why is it ONLY 4 stars on Yelp? We stopped in for supper at 6 PM on Friday night, a few take-outs, no one else there. WHY????? A family came in as we were leaving. The was a TORNADO siren that sounded at the same time we were arriving. The young man that took our order was pleasant and efficient. The place was VERY CLEAN. We ordered General Tso's chicken dinner plate, came w steamed white rice and choice of crab Rangoon or spring roll. We chose the crab Rangoon. Then we got potstickers. Food Review: The General Tso's Chicken was the BEST we've ever had! I kid you not. This is our go to Dish When try by a new Chinese place. We WERE comparing it to another place, but we now have a NEW FAVORITE! This is the General's to BEAT!!!! Enough heat in the sauce to leave a little burn, thick and sweet. The deep fried chicken was crackly good! You could tell this was freshly prepared. Rice was sticky, yummy good. The crab Rangoon was delicious! We've never had such creamy, crabby spectacular filling in a crunchy shell. WOW! Then......the pot stickers were perfect! Crispy, porky, NOT AT ALL GREASY, the ginger soy dipping sauce was spot on! Do your self a favor and checkout their Facebook page. They have an authentic menu that has some really good stuff on there. I recommend the hot oil wontons (May not be on the menu, but just ask), mapo tofu, spicy chili chicken, cumin lamb/ beef, bok choy w/ garlic, dried chili green beans. It's a shame that so many good Chinese places have to submit to serving crappy American Chinese food, but that's the reality. P.S. This restaurant has the best COVID set up I've seen. One customer is allowed in at a time and only allowed access a few feet into the restaurant to a table that has menus, sauces, etc. The host then was about 10 ft. away at a podium taking online orders, answering questions, and taking payments. I admit, I was prepared to make significant allowances for quality in my excitement to finally have Chinese delivery available to us - something both my wife and I have sorely missed since moving to North Liberty a few years ago. That said, I was thrilled to discover that no allowances needed to be made; the food was excellent. Head and shoulders above the only other Chinese restaurant in town - and, if I'm honest, the best Chinese delivery food I've eaten. The meat (beef in my case, chicken for my wife) was independently good, instead of only being good as a carrier for the sauce. Rather than being monochromatically over cooked and swimming in generically brown sauce, the vegetables were just the right balance of tender and crisp, brightly colored, and delicious. The fried bread (read "donuts") was excellent, though note it's a sufficient quantity to provide dessert for a family of three (or four, if they all have the self control to eat no more than is wise - which they won't). I can only speak directly to the Hunan Beef, the Chicken with Garlic Sauce, the chicken skewers, and the fried bread - but the overall quality was high throughout; I expect this is representative, not just a fluke of these dishes. All of that in mind, it's worth noting that the Hunan Beef, in particular, was not what one would call "light." It neither felt nor tasted greasy, but there was plenty of oil involved. Healthy food, this ain't. The only unalloyed criticism I have is their online presence. I don't care for replacing a dedicated site with a Facebook page, but I do understand the appeal. More problematic is the only menu available online appears to be pictures of the menu as handed out in the restaurant - and no menu was put in the bag the food came in. As criticisms go, this is - to say the least - a minor one. But I am disappointed that I can't clip a menu to my fridge to make the inevitable (and likely imminent) next order that much easier. read more

Some of the pieces of chicken were very dried out and tough, and some had a weird overwhelming taste. There were a lot of pieces that were mostly breading. I'm sorry but I was disappointed. I've eaten Chinese food all over the US, China, and Europe and I think this food was mediocre. The Lo Mein was ok but the Twice Cooked Pork was in a sauce that had the consistency of water, and the pork was tough. When I arrived to pick up my take-out dinner at 5pm I was turned off, actually repelled, by the condition of the restaurant. There was a film over the entire floor and on the tables and chairs. It was as if everything was "washed" with dirty water and the footprints all over was a testament to the poor cleaning. Also, there was equipment and boxes stored in corners of the eating area. Very solid every time I've come in for carry out. Crab rangoon and lemon chicken are both very good. General Tsao's chicken was solid. We wanted some Chinese close by and decided to give this place a try. We showed up at 11:30 and were the only patrons in the restaurant. The decor is sparse but it's clean. The gentleman that helped us was very cordial. We order to-go, we thought about ordering take-out off the site but the menu was difficult to decipher. We ordered Spring Rolls, Black Pepper Beef, Pork Egg Foo Yung, crab Rangoon and a side of Lo Mein. Our order was prepared quickly and packaged nicely. We had other errands to run and our food was still hot when we got home 30 minutes later. Everything was very good-especially the Crab Rangoon and Egg Foo Yung. This was our second time dining in. The first time we were there, a young male served us. Food was very good then. Service was pretty great. Food still good this second time around, but we were served by a female with a Sesame Street shirt on. Don't get me wrong, it's a show from the childhood, but her service was absolutely terrible. She served us water in a half-filled plastic 12 oz. cup. Never got refills even though both our cups were empty. We sat near the front of the restaurant. Every other time I looked up, she was peeking out from behind the kitchen. After ten minutes into our meal, she tossed the bill on the table. The guy was so desperate to get something to drink, he almost started drinking the sweet & sour sauce. As for the male who served us the first time, he was out delivering food. He left once, then came back into the restaurant and left again with a full grocery bag. If anything puts this place under, it won't be their food, but their service will, at least if it continues like the experience we had. read more

This is by far the worst Chinese Restaurant I have ever ordered from. I ordered Shrimp with Broccoli and Beef with Broccoli. The order came with no no eggs rolls, and no crab Rangoon's. I called the restaurant back and the guy told me that he would give me a refund and when a I called back to see how long it would take for him to send the driver back he told me to never order from there again. I was floored. It was not my fault that the food came wrong. I could be starving to death and they could give me no food for free. This is a bad problem with Chinese restaurants they see out of town numbers and they know that you won't be ordering from them anymore so they talk to you any kind of way. I was patient and even gave the driver a tip. But never ever again. I also work for a company and I told the lady what happened and she said they won't be ordering from this place again. read more

Lousy and frustrating customer service. Our meal was delivered on time, but we did not receive sweet and sour sauce for our -- you guessed it -- sweet and sour chicken dish. I called within 5 minutes to report the error and we were fine dealing with it. 30 minutes later, still no delivery of the sauce. I called for a second time and they said the driver was "going to make a couple of deliveries before bringing us our sauce." I'm sorry, but if you mess up someone's order who lives 5 minutes away, you'd better take care of that first. We had to leave for an event, so my mom was stuck with plain breaded chicken, hardly any vegetables, and no sauce. The manager said if the sauce didn't arrive before we left (40 minutes from first call), that he would not charge us for the dish. It did not arrive. Well, two weeks gone by now, and we were not credited with the cost of the sweet and sour chicken dish. Tonight's take out was great, the food was very fresh and arrived quickly! Before the projected time. We ordered 3 small entrees to share and the portions were plenty. Kong pao chicken, which was loaded with peanuts and I appreciate that! Broccoli chicken and Beef mushroom. My requests for sauce to be on the side were honored. Even though the yelp app pinpointed my location incorrectly, the restaurant called me and we figured it out. The only reasons I took off a star is because it's just not the best Chinese food I've ever eaten, they didn't include the fortune cookies which my Daughter was looking forward to, and the containers were a leaky mess, but our selections for Chinese are limited in this area, and china garden serves up fresh and tasty food, and we also appreciate their delivery!
