First time at Roma Bella. For starters, the sweet tea was a little bland but good, we had the lasagna and the chicken and shrimp parmigiana was delicious. The salad plates were very warm because notmally salads are cold but good. Croutons were excellent. The service could be a little bit better but I'm going to assume the inexperience in the lady/server. I believe the restaurant needs to be up kept and clean. Did notice some areas that were unclean. read more

To be honest, this place deserves three stars. I gave it four because it is a cut above its competitors. A few times a year, our family will go down to Surfside beach and whenever we do, we always make sure to stop by Bella Roma. It may not be the best Italian food, but it's a humble eatery that we want to support. So far it is the best food we have found in the area. I honestly don't know why there are so many bad reviews for this place. Yes, it's not the most scenic place, but if you judge it based on the food it at least deserves to beat Olive Garden. A tip if you decide to visit, ask for a reduced amount of dressing on the salads because they tend to drench it. read more

Where do I start? I walked in at 7:00pm. Sat down and was ignored. Their call in orders overwhelmed the two waitresses working tonight. Dine in couldn't get an order placed for five minutes, I had to walk up to the takeout counter to get someone's attention. I was immediately told there was no butter in the kitchen for the bread / rolls they serve. I had to suggest they cut a portion off the block of butter that the cook uses! Both waitresses were telling their dine-in customers that they were out of butter for the bread. I had to suggest offering a portion of marinara sauce as an alternative, which was served in a small salad dressing cup, which I managed to spill down the front of my shirt (never fails!). Food tasted great, portion size is good for the price, but the manager needs to be fired for the bad staffing. Better yet - hire a manager as I never saw another body besides the two waitresses. We just moved to Lake Jackson and tried this location because it's near our new home. It was really good! We both enjoyed our meals. My daughter got spaghetti with huge meatballs and I got the lobster ravioli. Both of them were very large portions and not only did we get full but we had some to take home! Service isnt the best, the waiters look severely overworked and not very cheery at all. The overall vibes were kind of depressing and it looked worn out. The waiters/waitresess took super long to get a single straw and apperently all of their silverware was dirty so we had to share a single set between 4 of us until they could bring us a clean set. There were also bugs crawling on the walls. A family of 4 sitting beside us finished their meal and left, but their table didnt get cleaned off for a good 25 minutes (that was the case for many of the other tables). My go to in the area for Italian food. I grew up near an Italian population, so I don't love many of the chain restaurants in the area. This place is pretty good. It satisfies my taste for lasagna, which is what I get most of the time. The lunch special is $6.99 and is served with bread and a salad. The salad is lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and cheese. Most times I don't bother unless I'm trying to fill up to eat less lasagna. I'm really here for the lasagna. The decorations aren't anything special, but the place is clean. The walls have cute Italian murals, but the tables are bare and the carpet is just brown. The service is spotty. Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so much. Most of them know me now by my order. That helps, the service is much better when they recognize me. Basic customer service is an expectation so I wish it were more consistent. Overall I have mostly had pretty good experiences and I will continue to come for my lasagna fix at lunch. read more

This place is a joke. I give it negative stars but to write a review I have to "rate them." Any ways, $10 pizza any way you want it. No fine print no nothing. Sign me up, I say! The blonde takes the pizza from my hands and the brunette claims my replacement pizza will be a few minutes... The blonde walks out with new pizza and fresh attitude in tow, "the onions are UNDER the cheese.. Wanna check it before you leave?" Mind you, there wasn't a soul to see in this place when I picked up both times, granted the second time a lady did walk out with a pie of her own (bless her heart I hope she didn't make the mistake I did and checked before she left the place.) So I know they can't chalk up their mess up to it being "busy." ... And what's with the rude girl attitude. This is not BET, you are not Rihanna, you can't afford to be rude! The second pizza was a tad better but I couldn't be bothered to tell them AGAIN how to do their job. The name Bella Roma, or Beautiful Rome, as translated into common English, conjures up thoughts of scenic Italian landscapes, Wonders of the World, cuisine that you would want to send your family postcards about. Bella Roma of Clute, Texas has none of these to offer. According to reviews we read on both Yelp and Zomato, as well as a word of mouth assessment we received from a local, we learned that the restaurant is known for its pizza, and that the pastas were also a point of pride. This establishment presents a feel on sight of a local greasy spoon type diner that was turned into an Italian restaurant. There is certainly nothing wrong with that when the food produced delivers the final intent. Bella Roma simply does not deliver. We came in a party of three, seated ourselves as is the norm there, and were greeted by a wonderful hostess who immediately received our drink order. She can easily be forgiven for forgetting my drink twice because she was seriously juggling tables and orders like a true champion. We swiftly received rolls that were probably meant to be garlic knots, but at any rate were delicious and served with butter. I ordered a Caesar salad and two slices of pizza, one cheese, one Margherita. Mrs. Sqworl got a tortellini Alfredo, and our other companion ordered two slices of pizza as well, topped with jalapenos, tomatoes, and pineapple. The Caesar has an expectation of consistency in flavor. It is unique, it is a formula, it is something that cannot, and should not be vastly altered nor mocked. "Et tu, Bella Roma?" You have truly killed the Caesar salad. Whatever the Miracle Whip flavored travesty I was presented actually was, it served as the equivalent of a pig in a dress at prom. While the vegetables in the salad were fresh, the dressing was not even of a quality to rate as a crime of passion. It was the kind of crime committed when someone is trying to go back to jail. The cheese pizza I had was the highlight of the pizza slices we received. The sauce was painted on, the crust was exactly as it should be, and the amount of cheese was about what happens when commercial cuisine tries to do a NY style pizza without using NY level quantities of ingredients. The flavor was desirable, but not memorable. It could have been the base for pizza magic. We were thinking David Copperfield magic. We got a crackerjack trick set. On the pizza slices we ordered, the toppings were a sad afterthought. The tomatoes on the three other slices were exactly what was in my salad, about a quarter inch thick and slightly chilled. My compatriot's pizza contained both jalapeno and pineapple that appeared straight out of a jar, thickly sliced, and placed on the pizza after cooking while still chilled. No attempt was made to render these toppings pizza friendly in any way. The person making these was very obviously not any sort of a trained pizza chef. Alfredo is a sauce, which at its loosest consistency should resemble a bechamel or hollandaise. Mrs. Sqworl was presented tortellini Alfredo that was nothing more than tortellini floating in a soup that by her account was flavored like the spice packet Alfredo from the grocer. The final analysis is that Bella Roma is neither beautiful, nor an Italian eatery. It is something, but not that. read more

My family and i came here because we heard the pizza was "the best". Atmosphere: it was cliche Italian. Walls are painted "poorly" with scenes. There was dust on the molding and the carpet appeared to be old on not kept (dirty). Service: The place was not exceptionally busy. We were great and told to sit anywhere. The waitress was friendly but not very knowledgeable. After taking our order she asked if we would like bread while we waited. My wife asked for marinara and I asked for balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The waitress did not know is they had either the vinegar or oil. She never came back to tell us if they had any. When I went up to pay the cashier charged me double. When I pointed out her mistake she corrected it right away. Food: We ordered mozzarella sticks. They had no flavor and you could tell they were frozen. The marinara was acidic. Other than that it was fair at best. We ordered the 18" Belle Roma special. The crust was crunchy but was not seasoned. The toppings were not cooked and came out liquidy. My suggestion is if you want pizza stick to Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Domino's, or even Little Cezars. read more

Had lunch here when in town for business. The place is in a strip mall, it lacks character and was miserably decorated. Ordered drinks and my diet cold tasted like chemical cleaners. Really. All of the other people were from the area and didn't complain but I sent mine back. Later (much later and after one reminder) she brought water and it tasted like chemicals. So maybe everything out of a fountain tastes like chemicals !!??!!! Then I ordered the pizza lunch and was not impressed. If you want luxury , drive an hour north but I'm hungry now! This place has some really good food. I enjoy the Italian salad they have with olives,cheese, and pepperoni it's delish. Also the shrimp scampi is legit. It has a good amount of large shrimp with a heaping portion of pasta in the middle. The pasta is flavored well with the sauce. Tastes of pine nuts garlic and olive oil. Pizza can be so different especially when your used to fast food. I enjoyed their pizza. And I thought the toppings were good. The food here was not good. When the meatballs finally showed up, they were frozen and microwaved too long before being served. I asked if they had been frozen and was assured they were fresh. I know they were frozen from my 6+ years of cooking experience. The chicken used in my chicken parm was pretty close to paper thin, really tough from being severely over cooked, and really soggy from sitting in watery marinara. Decent crust, toppings are nothing to write home about, ordering at busier times sometimes results in getting almost underdone pizzas, as if they are rushing and don't leave them in the full time. They also have a pretty good selection of other Italian food, the pasta is ok, sandwiches are hit or miss. Not too expensive, though defiantly a take-out place!! Amazing food. Called in an order and got there when I was told to, but I stood in there waiting an additional 30 mins so I asked how much longer. The older lady with the bedazzled black mask commented to the younger girl who was helping me about order times and I said I'm sorry I didn't come earlier than I was told. I said ok but it kinda felt that way I'm sorry and I do respect how busy y'all are I was just asking. She continued to snap at me and that poor younger girl looked in shock. Used to be a half-Decent Italian joint, but its going downhill fast. The food is subpar, pasta is nothing that couldn't be made at home and the pizza is often rushed, undercooked with far too much cheese. Getting worse over time. Might as well order a fast food pizza at this point. The joint itself is old, paint is chipping and tired, tables are battered, covers are cheap. Whole place has the feel of a restaurant that on its last legs, pinching to save every cent. Other stores in the same building are nicely presented, so they have no excuse for its poor appearance. Was craving for Italian food while traveling and this was the closest Italian restaurant. I was pretty let down and surprised the place got such high ratings on yelp. I had the fettuccine chicken alfredo. The chicken was rubbery and the alfredo sauce was tasteless. For such prices, the food was bland. My meal came with a salad(that we decided to take on the go). We never recieved that salad. The waitress forgot one of our orders and had to wait what felt like forever. The person ordered a calzone and recieved their salad, but didn't recieve the calzone until far after we reminded the waitress about the order. There was a group of people we saw that had left the restaurant after a while because they hadn't recieved service at all. Mind you, the restaurant was nearly empty. Scenery wasn't all too appealing either, to top it off. The painting on the walls looked like it was made by amatuers and with only two different types of brushes. read more

No more after many, many mistakes and rudeness by staff. Our latest problem was an order to go. Got it home....the salad was the loneliest, most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Some wilted lettuce and ONE...yes, one tomato wedge. That was it. The bread was burned and was nothing but very heavy dough, my husband's spaghetti and meatballs was so dry we had to add sauce to it at home...and ALOT of sauce too. My philly cheese steak had next to no meat and that bread was burned too. I called them to ask what happened. Tina...who said she was the manager when the "real one" was gone, was very standoffish, snapping at me that they had run out of croutons and that the bread is supposed to be that way because it's "free". Lol. That if we'd have paid for bread it would have had some garlic on it. She said that they had run out of meat for the cheese steak and gave me what they had. Omg! I can't say enough bad things about this place. It has really gone to the dogs. It used to be good food and service. The place is filthy...with tables not being cleaned off, the floor being swept...just filthy. And mind you...this is not cleaned even when nobody is in there. So, I told Tina, to have the "real" manager call me. I wanted to talk to him about what happened and what she had said. He didn't call. I waited 2 days and called back...Tina answers the phone again....definitely mad at me...and says the manager will call. I waited again for 2 days and....the same thing. Only this time I told her I was going to post reviews on Yelp and Tripadvisor. She could have cared less. So here I am. AND if you decide to go here to eat in. Take your own mayo and iced tea. Finally dropped in for dinner. Food comes out piping hot and oozing with cheese right out from underneath the salamander. I could find lots of ways to criticize them like the pasta being slightly overcooked, the salad being mostly iceberg, and the bread being slightly bland, but for each of these points there is also an upside like the decadent bolognese sauce, the spicy house vinaigrette, and the the fact that the bread is baked fresh. This used to be my favorite place to come when I visited the lake jackson area. While the food is still good the service is the worst. The last few times in we sat for ever before being helped. To nite the waitress hasn't checked on us once dropped the food on the table as fast as possible and stormed off. Also they didn't bring us bread after asking twice. No reason it should take 40 plus minutes to be served in a half empty restaurant. multiple family's had to get up to go get items they needed... straws, Parmesan cheese etc. Along with the bad service the place was a mess dirty tables and floors. When we first moved here in 2006, Bella Roma was definitely a great place for Italian. The pizza was very, very good. New York style with thin crust, crispy outside and chewy inside just like you'd expect it. The cheese pizza was perfect and I'm a supreme kind of girl. The sauce is great and makes the pizza. If you do like supreme it's called the Bella Roma special and it was awesome.They have take out. They have a great deal on 18" pizza on Sunday's. The pastas were all great with flavorful sauces and the house salad dressing was a tomato basil dressing with a tiny bit of spice. I believe it was all homemade by the owners and the tiramisu was home made and wonderful. OK.......that was then. SINCE ABOUT 2010-2011: I do not know what has happened. It must have been sold to someone new. It is nothing like it used to be. The waitresses who worked there had been there for a very long time and seemed happy. But now, you go in and no one greets you, it can be a long wait to get any service, and the wait times are crazy, even when NO ONE is in the restaurant. You will see many comments like this now. The focus seems to be on the take out pizza which is still a lot like it was before the "change", pretty good. But service is fair, orders are missed- this happened to me a number of times, they run out of stuff, and the sauces have no flavor, the bread is still homemade, but doesn't have flavor now. I am really sorry this has happened because Lake Jackson/Clute doesn't have much to begin with. To all those who still think it is wonderful, maybe you go on days when they have a different cook? DO NOT order the pizza by the slice! It is basically cheese pizza that has been made earlier, sits there till you order your slice with your choice of toppings. They just warm up the slice with the toppings and if it has veggies or many toppings, it doesn't get but barely warmed up. The veggies are not even cooked when you get a slice of Bella Roma special for instance, the meats are just warm, and the cheese pizza underneath is noticeably not fresh made. No OOEY GOOEY cheese and sauce. Just luke warm blahness. I wondered recently why the single slices were no longer as good at the whole pizza order. When I asked a waitress, she said they make whole pizzas fresh when you order them, but the by the slice orders are warmed up and toppings added as ordered. WOW! No wonder it tasted like re-warmed next day pizza. Cause it basically is. Sorry, Bella Roma. I hope the owner cares enough to read reviews and cares to make the necessary changes. I've been a long time customer and have thoroughly enjoyed the food here on many occasions. Unfortunately as of recent their service seems to be slacking. The food is slow to get out of the kitchen. Multiple times I've been told the bread was not available or it would be a while for it to bake, even though the restaurant isn't packed. After arriving at 5:00pm, it took 15 minutes to get drinks, 25 minutes to order, 40 minutes to get bread, an hour to get our salads....and we NEVER got out food. We left after an hour and a half. Here is a hint, take care of the folks that are in your restaurant and stop taking to-go orders if you are too busy to keep up with those that take the time to come to your establishment to eat.
