Tony has been serving Long Beach for I believe it was over 18 years and his experience shows. I paid $50 for the smog check, and the certificate gets sent directly to the DMV without anything needed on my end (I also didn't understand the certificate portion, so he explained that to me). I'd recommend this location (and will exclusively be going to Tony) for future smog check needs!

There were a Latino couple, a sister and me, white but used to a nice mix of nationalities! RC Hi-Tech checks all the boxes. We calmly sat together as one by one I watched the happy folk before me smile as that paid for their smog check, obviously all passed--no price hikes like an added catalytic converter or even a spark plug and that's it! Great place to go to get your required SMOG test done, if you live near downtown LBC. Like getting…read moredocuments notarized, the process is heavily regulated by the state, but unlike a notary, it looks like a SMOG testing center can charge what they want. So the $40 out the door (including the mandatory $8.25 fee for the certificate) is a great price. I actually found a coupon from smogtips.com for $29.95 for this space, but once you add in the extras, it came out the same...so the tech didn't even take it. The $40 is listed clearly, and it seems like it would be the same for minivans and small SUVs as well (other places seem to have extra surcharges for that). Like others said, it's easy to drive in if you are next, but if somebody is getting tested, you would need to drive into the auto repair shop driveway right after and walk back to the garage to get in line. You can only enter going South on Long Beach Blvd (since Long Beach Blvd is a divided road). There is a small waiting room with a TV showing a local station. Once our car got hooked up, it took about 15 minutes to complete. They take credit cards, and will give you a computerized Vehicle Inspection Report. Now I just need to wait for the electronic submission to be recorded at the DMV, so I can renew my registration on-line. Conclusion: the price is good, and quick once you get started. We'll come back to this place in 2 years.

Yelp was correct: their $40 price is on the low end of standard (they have a coupon on their website, but turns out I didn't actually need it to get that price), the guy working there (who I think may have also been the owner) was super friendly, and I was in and out in 10 minutes. My only complaint: they really need a better sign directing traffic - they have a big sign out in front, that points into their one-car garage, so if someone else is already getting a smog check (as was the case when I got there), it is completely non-obvious where to go. You actually turn into the following drive-way, which looks like it leads into a car-wash, and then park around the back of the building. Their sign out front really needs to tell people that. Once I figured out where I was going, though, super quick and easy.

The gentleman on the phone said the transmission fluid is for life unless I'm towing or carrying heavy loads. When I questioned why I see that it's recommended online he says that dealers will recommend this service all day but if you check the Toyota maintenance manual it says you don't need it. Man! I haven't even been to this shop yet and I'm already getting a good feeling about this place. It's a bit more expensive for an oil change than other places that have quoted me, but I like that they use factory parts including Toyota oil filters. I'll update this review once I get the car in for my first visit. Stay tuned.... 6/29/26 - Brought my Sienna in for an oil change + complimentary 30-point inspection (since it was my first time there). Jared took the van for a spin, brought it back and lifted it up. They found a little oil seepage coming out of the transfer case. I let them know that I did see a transfer case drain/fill on the CarFax report before I bought it. Jared thinks they just didn't torque it properly so they were going to retorque and clean up around the area and keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, they would need to order a new drain plug gasket and I'd have to come back to get it replaced. Thankfully, the drain plug just needed to get tightened. I was in and out in almost exactly an hour just as Robert promised. Thanks The Toy Shop team!! Pro Tip: they are booked out at least a week in advanced so make your appointment ASAP!

I smoged my car about 3mths ago here and it failed. They offered me a free re-test but never specified how long that offer was valid for. I had to fix my catalytic converter amongst two other things that needed to be replaced per the results. Cost me close to $1,000 to repair in order to re-test. Not chump change! This place refused to give me the free re-test when i came back. The guy (David) told me it only takes 1 day to fix a car. Rude! I wasn't able to come up with an extra $1,000 in one day to repair. He offered me a discount. I had previously paid them $60 here for the initial smog, so on top of the repair expense the initial cost plus a re-test cost now. I found a place that would smog my car for 45 bucks. Bottom line is the principal here!! I had to argue my reason for taking a few months. I was also initially told that i haf to drive my car a few hundred miles before the re-test. That doesn't take a day either! Next time i will make sure to ask details when a deal or discount is oferred. Never coming back here again!! read more

I came in today asking for help after being given a very shady Fail on a smog check by another tester. Ryan helped me out and got on the phone with the first shop to get them to explain their diagnostic and to give me free a retest that day--they were just as evasive an belligerent with another automotive professional as they were with me. Ryan quickly retested my car (under 15 minutes). I was happy to give them my business for all their help and I will definitely come back again. read more

I have never gotten a smog check before so I decided to go here because of all the raving reviews everyone had . This place was fast!! I felt like I had only waited 15 minutes. There was a comfy couch where you can see them testing your car. The workers were really nice and funny. I also saved $10 because of the coupon posted by Elaine F. Jamal's price quote at VIP Smog was the most affordable but a little out of the way for me. Luckily I was in the area one day and decided to stop by without calling in advance. I was greeted by Jamal and he helped me right away. I gave him my DMV paperwork and within 15 minutes, my car was checked and ready to go. The shop is located on the main street of pacific and he was kind enough to reposition my car to make it easy and safe to leave the lot without having to reverse out onto oncoming traffic. Definitely check this place out when needing your next smog. Jamal is fast, efficient, and very kind! I'll be back to bring my families vehicles as well!
