He then wanted to charge extra to inspect the hot tub, even though he had previously agreed to include it in the inspection price. As a result, we ended up paying more than $1,000 for the inspection. 4. The inspection report reflected a lack of expertise, with many items simply recommending "further investigation" rather than providing meaningful findings. 5. The fireplace produced very little flame during the inspection; however, he concluded that there was no issue based solely on the seller's agent's statement that it was functioning properly. When I questioned why the fireplace produced so little flame if there was nothing wrong with it, he stated that he did not have expertise in evaluating that issue. 6. He also had a very unprofessional attitude throughout the process. 7. Later, we hired another inspector for a different house and were provided with an inspection report that had been prepared by him for the seller. Our inspector identified two code violations that were not documented in his report. Lesson learned: Don't automatically use the inspector recommended by your real estate agent.
