Update (12-11-19) I tried to give this location another chance but they have cancelled my hair color appointment for a third time again and they tend to call within 30 minutes or less to let me know of that they are not doing any hair coloring today because of their holidays. This time it was an hour before my appointment. Pretty upsetting that they keep doing that I work as a nurse and I have to plan my schedule to make it possible to get my me time which I'm this case was going to be my hair coloring. I don't understand why this location keeps treating me this way. I used to go to El Cajon location and they were always wonderful but I moved and this location is the one that is the closest. I do feel discriminated I called (11-15-19) to book an appointment for tomorrow (11-16-19) and I was told by Paola that she was not allow to book 2 appointments in advance and she kept me in hold before telling me these. And to check tomorrow at 0930am to get a same day appointment. I have long hair and a teensy bit of hair-cut phobia so I don't get trims as often as I should. But my crispy ends really needed to go so I made an appointment with Bellus at the suggestion of a friend. From check-in all the way to my check-out process, everything went smoothly. At the front desk, you sign a waiver acknowledging that you're having services done by students in training. I was called back immediately by Vivian, who sat me down to discuss what I wanted done with my hair. She jotted down some notes and had her instructor (she used a different term for him, I can't recall what right now) take a look. He gave the thumbs up and Vivian took me back to shampoo my hair. She was really gentle about it and even gave me a bit of head massage. Honestly, I wasn't even expecting a shampoo with the low cost of the hair cut, so I was rather floored! Back in the chair, she combed through the hair and added some thermal protectant and balms and proceeded to cut my hair. She was careful and thorough with good technique (graduating later this month) and I feel like I definitely got a good stylist-in-training! My end result was gorgeous long layers and silky smooth hair! Good job Vivian! Be patient, things do take a bit longer than at a regular salon because they run things by their instructors but the stylists are well-supervised and are obviously being well-trained. My experience was nothing but positive. It was super easy for me to make an appointment and I had a groupon so basically all of my services were half off. I am definitely a fan of Bellus in Poway! I think it is a lot better than the Paul Mitchell school downtown because this Bellus location is clean and definitely very professional looking. There also is plenty of parking in the plaza! The staff here are super nice and the girl, Cherry, who did my hair was very sweet. First of all- you need to know that these are students. Period. Do not come here thinking that you are getting someone who has decades of experience cutting hair. I was a student (nursing student) once and I totally understand the anxiety and nerves when it comes to interacting with someone knowing you don't have experience. So, be kind to them! They are learning! I will be back for a massage and now, I am a fan of this place, so I will be getting my hair done here more often! If you're not picky and you're a laid back person, I recommend you give them a try! They may mess up but that's the risk you have to take when you go to a beauty school. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. To begin with, it has very flexible hours and the inside is very clean and modern looking. I went to get eyelash extensions and the student that helped me, Yesenia V., did an outstanding job. She explained everything that was going to happen and we discussed what I wanted my lashes to look like. She was incredibly thorough in her work and the customer service was incredible. After about 2.5 hours of lash work, an instructor came over to check that the work was good, and she had done a perfect job. I was in love with the results! You can not beat the price of this place. The only regret that I have is that I did not know the tips are cash only, so make sure to bring to cash to the appointment. The only thing is that it takes a little more time. The instructors come by often and sign off on everything before you leave. Has us working on clients feet with fungus. Did get all supplies with our kits. Spend money to work in a non ventilated space with unopposed floors! Bathrooms don't work and they change rules every day not even abiding by the contract we sign. As an active duty military retired member of 10 years never I've I ever felt this way. This is my first time coming to an academy so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I walked in, it looked like a professional salon. They even have hair care products for sale. Sasha performed my facial - I got a Brightening Facial for only $35. These usually go for over $100 elsewhere. I've had facials previously when the esthetician scrubbed too hard that the exfoliating treatment portion burned. Sasha was friendly, she took her time and the facial flowed well. She answered all my questions and she was professional. They run monthly specials and they also offer packages to save more money.
