This Show, put on by the Belly Laugh Productions, is inside the Courtyard Marriott in one of their conference rooms on the 1st floor, pass the Starbucks. Your options for parking include valet at the hotel, self parking in a parking structure nearby (1st 90 minutes are free) and street parking a few blocks away (if you can find it, and this would be free parking). My husband and I came for a dinner and show last night (6:30 pm show). Making reservations on line was a breeze (be sure to check Groupon for discounted tickets). Check in at the hotel was quick and we were given 2 keepsake glasses. We were placed at table 5 and sat at the only 2 seats left at the table (although you are assigned a table, seating is 1st come/1st served so if you prefer to sit somewhere in particular around a table of 8, be sure to come early). There were only 7 tables with 8 seats per table, which was a good size for this interactive dinner show (you are able to hear the performers/ actors from anywhere in the room). The show is about a princess of Whussels who is thowing this ball (name of this show is called "The Un-Royal Ball") and has several body guards hired to protect her. The story line was pretty disappointing and didn't really have much of a story line. The jokes thrown in were not really that funny and just seemed to have gotten those "oh, ha-ha" chuckles here and there from the audience (which the crowd did seem to be an older crowd). The story line did seem a little predictable as well, and yes there is some raunchiness (so don't bring your kids with you, as this really isn't family friendly as the company website advertise). But the food itself was really good. Often times when you go to a dinner and show type of event, usually the food suffers in terms of taste. But the food was quite good and was catered by the hotel. You have your option of getting chicken, salmon or vegetarian (penne pasta). I went with the chicken and my husband went with the salmon. With this 4 course meal, we had: Bruschetta- This appetizer was delicious and wished I had more. Loved the pesto sauce on the bread and the diced tomatoes (made it quite refreshing). Salad & Dinner Roll- Average dinner salad. There is already 3 different types of salad dressings on the table (raspberry vinaigrette, balsamic vinegar, ranch). The dinner roll was nice and warm and pretty standard. Chicken Dinner- This dish comes with 2 pieces of breaded chicken breast with a white cream sauce, a small scoop of mashed potato and assorted steamed vegetables. The portion size of this dish was quite large. I gave one chicken cutlet to my husband and I ate the other one. I really enjoyed the assorted steamed vegetables and the mashed potato was okay. I was pretty stuffed after I had this meal and really should have only ate half of my food. Salmon Dinner- Just like the chicken dinner, this dish came with a small scoop of mashed potato and steamed vegetables. The salmon itself was a small portion (but would have been find enough for me) but cooked well. But for some reason, this one girl at our table had a huge salmon portion (looked like 3 times the size as my husband's and everyone else at our table who had the salmon too). Chocolate Bundt Cake- I was already too stuffed to eat my dessert so I took my home (don't be afraid to ask for a box, many people took their dessert home too). But I did get a bite of my husband's and it was quite rich and fudge like. Very decadent. There is also water, (unsweetened) ice tea and coffee on the table. If you want alcohol, there is a cash bar. But the line was rather long, as there is only 1 bartender and plenty of people seem to have wanted some libations for the show (so either wait in the long line for your drink or perhaps drink before coming). In the end (the show was from 6:30 pm to 8:50 pm), I had a great meal and a night out on a Saturday with my husband. The show was much to be desired and do not see myself coming back for another one. Where to start. As a late combination Father's Day and Birthday night out, my wife bought tickets on Groupon. $79 for two for a show and dinner, OK! The $79 deal balloons when they add another $40 for taxes, gratuities ... At the time you redeem you tickets. The venue: The Courtyard in Pasadena is a nice place, clean, hip and valet parking was only $7. The room was laid out in 8 table arrangement. We sat at table 4. In the back. More on that later. There was bar service in the connecting ballroom. Don't know what the prices were for bar, but they had a steady line of traffic. The room's tables were very nicely set for what could have been a more formal dinner.. Was kind off impressed until I realized that virtually none of the setting would be used. The program laid out the night starting with hors d'oeuvres. Being that we were in the back, the hors d'oeuvres never. Made it back to us. I heard they were bruschetta. Not really sure, never got within seeing or smelling range. Water and some weird muddy tasting iced tea was provided. I can't say what kind of iced tea it was, but was reminiscent of washing my mouth out with water after being forced to eat mud pies as a kid. The table was set for coffee service, but no coffee was ever provided or offered during dinner or desert. Water service was slow at best. Hors d'oeuvres down onto the first act! Wow! I would liken the production to a play at a special ed high school. Missed lines, dyslexic delivery, poor timing, meaningless dialog. Then it happened! They moved from an advertised PG-13 into something else. I was mortified to be sitting next to my in-laws. Poorly delivered and tasteless raunchy jokes, not ever really good jokes. However, the "Lion Tamer" joke was the best of the night. While moving at a steady pace, with short acts it seemed not to drag. I guess that is a positive. Salad: Nice proportioned, everyday dinner salad. Nothing bad to say, after all it's salad. Rolls: I thought the rolls were good, probably one of the shining stars out of the food choices for the night. Dinner: Pre-selected choices of chicken, salmon or penne pasta. We had the chicken. Portion was LARGE! Breaded Parmesan crusted breasts, a white garlic sauce on top adorned with squash, carrots and mashed potatoes. Just average, not bad, not great, but not worth the cost. I saw my Father in-law fidgeting with something in his mouth, he pulled out a hair ball, not a hair, but a fully developed hair ball. We notified the service staff, which I'm not sure did any good. The penne pasta and salmon looked good, generous portions. Desert: Pre-fabricated (tasted out of a box) 1x1 cheese cake, garnished with a strawberry and chocolate with raspberry purée. I ate a couple bites and pushed it away, dreaming of a blueberry pie waiting at home. Back to the show. It began to drag as the raunch comedy continued. They were running around, in one door out another delivering meaningless lines. Not sure there was any development beyond the initial plot. Claimed to be from a fictitious country and a ball. Had nothing to do with a ball. My take: A group of college theatrical majors wanting desperately to break into the biz, craft an idea to rent out a hotel ballroom, pack it full of unsuspecting Groupon following customers, put on an ill conceived and developed play all to get a name out and cash in. Sorry. But I cannot recommend this show at this price point. Was very expensive for the level of food, service and production value. There are some great community theaters out there with much better productions and go next door for a dinner in one of then many restaurants that line our city streets. My date and I attended the opening night of Belly Laugh Production's "The Royal Ball". It was our first time at a dinner & comedy show and we weren't quite sure if it would be something we would really enjoy. It turned out to be a lot of fun! The show was held at Old Town Pasadena's Courtyard Marriott. Valet parking was super convenient (and affordable at $7), and the check-in process was fast and easy. We got our table number, found our table, and chose our seats. Everyone we met from our table was very nice and we were all excited for the show to start! We were served passed hor d'oeuvres of fresh tomato, basil & garlic bruschetta on slices of toasted baguette. Very tasty! There was also a cash bar at the other end of the room. WARNING: This is an age 18+ adult show with ribald humor. It's definitely rated R, not a PG or PG-13 show you should take an impressionable child or a super-conservative parent to. The show started with the introduction of the drunken rebellious princess and her entourage of personal assistants and bodyguards. There was so much energy in the room -- you could tell the actors were really having fun! My favorites were the two young men playing "Rookie" and "Flip". "Rookie" had such great comedic timing and improvisational skills, and I was really impressed by "Flip" because he was able to switch accents so easily. It was fun to interact with the actors between acts. I challenged Flip to do a series of accents and he was able to do it! (I was told that the ensemble cast frequently switch roles from show to show to mix things up, but I just can't imagine the two actors playing other roles since they were so perfect as "Rookie" and "Flip". They really got the crowd cracking up!) Appetizer, dinner, and dessert courses were served between acts of the show. I had low expectations about the food, and was pleasantly surprised. The appetizer salad was accompanied by a choice of three salad dressings: raspberry vinaigrette (my favorite), champagne vinaigrette, and ranch dressing. My entree was the roasted salmon with vegetables (salmon was moist, but everything needed more seasoning). My date's entree was the chicken cutlet (breaded and fried) which he really enjoyed. Dessert was a slice of cheesecake. Overall, the food was good. If you've never been to a dinner and comedy show, I highly recommend that you try it once! read more

My manager bought me two tickets to the Un-Royal Ball. I took my mom for her birthday over the weekend since she likes these types of events as opposed to CGI blockbuster movies. This show got her full approval! The actors and actresses were all really talented and funny! A lot of the jokes happened spontaneously and on the spot. I think they all have experience doing improv because they were able to think quickly on their feet and play off of each others' lines. My favorite was the Rookie and my mom LOVED the British Alpha. The food was pretty good too. The bread with tomatoes appetizer was our favorite. We each ate like 4 pieces and couldn't finish our entrees, LOL. There's free iced tea and coffee on the table. We were supposed to go get ice cream afterwards but we were way too full. If you're reading, my mom says THANK YOU (to my manager) for the gift! You always surprise me with cool presents. The bestie made reservations for this dinner show on Saturday evening. We went shopping in Old Town during the day. Of course we stopped by various wine bars to sample their bubblies! Then we got mani's and pedi's before going to the show. Needless to say, we were primped and fully ready to attend a Royal Ball! This is not your typical staged theater show. The performers barge in and out of the ballroom and do their routines around the tables. There is plenty of audience interaction. Usually they will ask for volunteers, but sometimes they'll just pick on you. It's all in good fun though! The comedians don't try to embarrass anyone (except themselves). The concept is definitely something unique and different. We both had more than a few "laugh out loud" moments! read more

The misses dragged me to this dinner show over the weekend. Surprisingly, the show was way funnier expected and raunchy in a hilarious way. The main spy and Alpha spy were both really entertaining at improvising with the audience members... and Vixen was HOT, hahaha., the gf agreed. One of the hosts told us she tried out for American Idol in a bikini. Someone find me the episode! The food was above average but not spectacular. You get 4 courses (appetizer, salad/bread, entree, dessert). Entree size was enormous though. On complaint is that the line at the private bar ridic since there was only one bartender. I suggest you get your drinks early for the night if you go. Overall, I definitely recommend The Un-Royal Ball (I think that's the only show they offer). I made a deal with my lady: she gets to plan every other Saturday night out for us until football season starts, then I get a hall pass for every Sunday during football season. Let's just say I've had to suffer way too many chick flicks and art exhibits and boring plays/operas. Pigskin season can't come soon enough, dudes. Having said that...this was the first activity she chose that I actually enjoyed. And not just because it was the cheapest, lolol. The comedians were all pretty good even though they were all young. They didn't show any signs of stage fright and there was solid chemistry between the whole cast. We thought the dirty jokes were the funniest. I wish they could have gone "all out" but I guess some of the old folks might have gotten heart attacks. Still, this was for sure the most entertaining of all the planned Saturdays so far. read more

This is not what I was expecting. There were only five circular tables in a small room. They sat six to a table, so if you go as a couple, you will have to sit with strangers. They sat us next to four other people we didn't know. They were actually really nice and looked like they were having fun, but it was really awkward nonetheless. My husband and I are really reserved and shy so this was not our cup of tea. If you like meeting new people and can talk to anyone then you might not mind that part. I was looking forward to the play beginning so we wouldn't have to make awkward conversation or sit there in awkward silence any longer. Once the play started, it was a little better. However, every time they served something, they would stop the play and wait until everyone was finished eating before they started up again, which just left for more awkward silence or conversation. First they served the drinks and appetizers, then the salad, then the main course, then the dessert. And some of the food items they placed on the other side of the table or only in front of us so we all had to pass things around. I got the chicken dish, which was pretty good. The quality of the play was a little embarrassing. I feel bad saying bad things about it because all the actors were trying their best to make it seem lively, but it seemed very very amateur, not very funny, and like a high school kid wrote it. My sister wrote a play when she was 7 or 8 that was way better than this. I am giving it 2 stars because for the price we paid for it, it wasn't worth it at all. Do not be suckered in by the Groupon. They make you pay $20 gratuity when you redeem your voucher and then they ask you for more money as tips at the end of the show. So we ended up paying about $100 bucks for the whole thing. (Also, as a side note: bring a jacket! I was freezing the whole time so that made it less enjoyable for me. And I am not a person who gets cold very easily) read more

My gf dragged me out here for a girls night outing. It was actually pretty entertaining and involved a few knee slappers on my end since it was interactive. Awesome place! Wasn't sure what to expect, but had a great time! Would definitely recommend it! My bf and I were looking for activities around the area and found the place through Groupon. So glad that we can enjoy a spot locally like this rather than driving all the way to Hollywood or LA. Food was yummy! We get a 3 course meal as well as dessert. Had a girls night out this time and it was even more fun because they interacted with the crowd and particularly one of my friends so it was more entertaining. Watching this a second time was still just as funny if not funnier due to the improv. Parking was standard hotel parking. We went often to the cash bar. Food was good. I had the chicken and it was tasty. The appetizer (bruschetta) was slow getting to our table, but we asked the waiter for some and he kindly brought some over. The unlimited refills of ice tea was yummy (just remember the more liquid the more potty breaks needed!). We got the groupon deal which was an awesome deal. Girls Night Out!!!! We had a blast at this comedy show! Some of the jokes were soooo funny. I do think the show is meant for a young professional, open-minded audience. I wasn't expecting brilliant theatre, but I was hoping for a fun show with some good food. The food was reasonable, though the appetizers never made it to our table. We finally got some when we requested them during the salad course. The show itself was disappointing. It was basically a fair amount of raunchy humor loosely wrapped in a spy/kidnap story. There was essentially no plot, and the resolution was just a set up for more dirty jokes. The acting was over the top, going for laughs, rather than trying to establish any real characters. I gave it two stars, because it was at least dinner and entertainment, but for the price I expected much more. It was a $79 Groupon for two. Plus they add in an additional $20 for "services/gratuities". Perhaps this was mentioned on the Groupon fineprint, but I did not see it, so I found it deceptive. read more

Plain good fun! I agree with all the positive reviews. Not sure why a negative review was given because they thought it was too raunchy -- do not agree at all. Definitely GP. Very small venue (only 4 tables, each with 6-7 people) in a Pasadena Marriott conference room. A total of 9 performing cast members. Very generous food portions. My husband and I brought our own bottle of wine, and was not charged a corkage fee. Certainly not on par with a production from Ahmanson or Glendale Centre Theater, but makes for a fun night. Groupon discounts makes it very affordable. Just a little challenging to schedule due to the few number of shows scheduled, but Kaine more then willing to work with you, even with a Groupon certificate that has expired. This review is only for the customer service of this business. I wish I can give them more than 5 stars. I requested to change my show date twice, change my entree orders twice, and add another couple to my group. They fixed the issues quickly and courteously each time. The guy who returned my calls was patient and in fact he even made a lot of jokes during our conversation. When was the last time you got entertainment during a customer service call?! It really shows that this business puts their customers first. Good job and thank you to all the customer service staff!!! read more
