I'll review them separately. Brown Betties: When was the last time you saw an amazing burlesque show?? If you haven't seen the Brown Betties, you are in for a TREAT!! The writing, acting, singing, and dancing were spectacular! I loved the show because their talent held the audience's attention while capturing many of the experiences men and women have in relationships, and giving fair attention to both. My friend and I left raving about the show, and telling our friends not to miss out when they have another chance to attend! My only advice is that I would get the dinner/seat reservations in advance if they are available...the food was excellent, and the show is even more enjoyable with a seat!! I would definitely attend again in the future, and hope new shows are offered. These incredibly talented women provide entertainment with a twist in all the right places! BYOB (Be Your Own Betty): The Brown Betties hosted a wonderful private party for my birthday a few days after their show. Having seen their moves on stage, I knew I would not be disappointed! However, my expectations were exceeded! They were professional, reaching out to me before the event to answer questions, help with advertising, and asked for my preferences regarding refreshments (which were amazing!!). On the day of the event, they came early to set everything up, and did a beautiful job transforming our space. The women were very gracious, and my friends quickly felt comfortable with them. They did a spectacular job of leading us through exercises that had a profound impact on how we viewed ourselves as women--my friends are still talking about this experience to this day! They also taught us routines and moves that helped us find our "Inner Betties". Finally, they had a few tricks up their sleeves to make sure we would never forget this day, and that the lessons we learned would help make us better women to ourselves. At the end, I felt that the entire experience was entertaining and personally valuable...reflecting lessons and experiences I wanted to share with my friends...I didn't have to do any of the heavy lifting for my party, and was able to truly enjoy it as a guest! I recommend the BYOB experience for a special birthday, ladies night, bachelorette party, or whatever you have in mind. Gather your friends, then call Brown Betties...these women have it covered!!!

The Rapp Saloon is a lovely performing arts studio with a few brick walls and smooth wooden floor. It is a common space within the Santa Monica international hostel. You are immersed into the story within earshot of the actor, walking down the dark, long, candle lit corridors right alongside the characters. You transcend the grand staircases with the villain or hero. You're sitting right in the church where all the scandalous affairs are revealed. And yet the whole time it is as if you yourself are a part of the cast and story and yet you are not. Forever damned in limbo... Which makes the experience all that more exciting. It begs the question, are we the ghosts or are they? The sound effects and lighting are spectacular. The production is very impressive for the scale. This has the potential to revolutionize theater in a way that keeps it relevant and competitive to cinema. Fewer people will, in essence, be able to experience it, which is worth paying a little bit more than a movie ticket for just for the experience and memories created. Mausoleum is a monumentally gorgeous architecture. Once the night falls and the candles light the hallways and spooky music echo the quarters, this place really turns into a magical otherworldly place indeed. Don't come alone, come at least 2, you'll each experience different bits of the story as you'll get split up... and afterwards you'll want to spend the night piecing it all together! so fun.... so magical. Highly highly recommend! They deserve the communities' support, admiration and love for all the hard work they put into bringing live theater to the world. And they hire an amazing ensemble of talented actors many of whom I can tell have extensive training in improvisation and theatre. Great work done Downtown Repertory Theater! A small number of audience members are excluded from 1:1 interactions during their immersive shows…read moreand do not receive a gift. The gift (usually a hat/mask/necklace) that 90% of people receive is very visible -- meaning if you are in the 10% who don't receive a 1:1 gift, you feel bad. And everybody knows who didn't get one. This has happened to multiple people I know across multiple productions of theirs. Fangs, Witch, Masq, Noir. My friend emailed them and complained and they never wrote back. I wrote a comment on their Instagram and they deleted it.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!!…read more I was invited to attend tonight's screening by the Consul of Luxembourg. When I arrived, the gates were wide open so that anyone from the street could walk in, no one checked tickets or enforced seating arrangements, and I was assaulted by a strange woman who sat in one of the seats I purchased. She refused to move, she refused to show her ticket, and told me I was "ruining her movie." I looked for security but there was none. I spoke to the host, who rolled his eyes and did nothing. I tried to get back into my seat one last time but she again refused to move. I've requested a refund but heard nothing from the theatre. Save your money and your time.

We showed up 1/2 hour early and there already was a line 30 people deep. Once the gate opened, we moved at a good pace. Getting checked in and welcomed with passed trays of a gazpacho. Buffet table was loaded with salads, cheeses and bread. A side table was serving beer and white/red wines. There were also trays of cute mozzarella & cherry tomatoes roaming around. We enjoyed the opening reception as well as the movie. The short movie " Bowling killers " by Sébastien Petit Trailer shown before the main feature was hilarious.

That was pretty impressive! This show is actually in a smaller theater to the right of the Pasadena Playhouse. It's actually the grand opening of that side of the theater and it was sold out for the night. This IS an adult show with lots of adult moments and humor. Amy G sings very well and her voice is so familiar to me! I will have to Google her to see what else she's done. My friend and I had a great night out! The show is about 1.5 hours and it's a one woman show - she does everything. There's even some audience participation. There's cheap parking nearby... or better yet, you can park on the streets for FREE after 6pm. This theater is located up the stairs to the right of the main theater. You can see from any seat... even the last row in which my friend and I sat in. I think if I counted, there were about 10 rows? I would say it probably seats no more than 150 people. Seating is unassigned - first come first serve. There are also no tickets to pick up, just go to the theater and they check your name at the door. There were some laughs through out the night but there were some misses too. There were a few people in the audience that were put off by her performance, especially one gentleman who refused to be subjected to Amy's dance/singing routine in her lingerie. Nice to see the opening of the new theatre at the pasadena playhouse. To call it a theatre is a bit of an overstatement. It's a floor/stage with a black wall separating it from the main entrance. There are lights overhead and seats about 100 people. There were some kinks that they're still working out. A few times during the show, the sound technicians forgot to queue up the next song or down right forgot with song to play. Initially I thought it was part of the act to get some laughs but since I was sitting in the very last row, I overheard the sound techs discussing among themselves which song should be played. Overall it was a fun night with laughs here and there. There's no doubt Amy G is a talented person. She sings well, dances well, rollerskates really well and is not ashamed of making a mockery of her shortcomings. Come if you like to see some crude humor but be forewarned, this is not for everyone. I came here with friends to watch Rayuela Hacia EL Mas Alla. It was all in Spanish, but for those like me that only have 2 years of high school Spanish, there were subtitles projected on the top of the stage. The play was a dark comedy with a little bit of everything. It had humor, drama, terror, a love story and a "non-hollywood ending." Going in with an open mind and not knowing what the play was about, I was blown away. Parts of the play made me think of Guillermo Del Toros Pans Labyrinth and Kurt Vonnegut from my AP English class in high school. With its morbid beauty and dystopian setting. It amazed me how such a large story could be played out on such a small stage with just a few actors through the use of lighting, minimal props, and and the expression of those actors. Kudos to Laura Santa Cruz and Manuel Chitay for a wonderful performance. It was very creative how they used the same projector to animate the clocks and show the passage of time. As well as (not to give anything away) execute certain scenes. This play is very unique in the sense that every few weeks they change the ending and have a different actress. Which not only brings a different take on the story but keeps you coming back for more.

It was my first time here and I was so happy to not just support a small theater but a Latino one. My experience on arrival was not the greatest. The entrance is not really an entrance like normal theaters and had very limited seating to wait. They didn't have check-in prepared and the restroom were would I would say back of house restrooms that I was able to use not aware if they had others. It took a while to finally be checked in. Small theater but only one person worked the check in and concessions so it took us a while to get it. Not the friendliest of staff in my experience. The most exciting part was of course the actual play. So happy to witness a full cast of Latino actors who wrote and started in this show. Wonderful to hear so many voices and stories from my culture. Happy to support. Although i didnt have the best experience i would gladly return to support my fellow latino artists.

Great groups and seasoned performers…read more They have a house group called Bucket of Snakes, made up of a lot of Second City alumni and some great all girl groups, but a particular favorite of mine is the Transformers, who are usually there 2 Saturdays a month. Crazy, wild and so damn funny! This place is out of the way in Culver City, but it's definitely worth the trip.
