I tried it several times hoping that we could work together if I was patient with them doing things I specifically asked them not to do like shave off my dogs eyelashes. I was waiting for them to take my dog and they were arguing about who had to take the next doodle type dog. They were not friendly didn't trim my little dog at all like the pictures I sent and they were expensive. After several tries I gave up especially after I heard them not wanting to do certain dogs. so unprofessional to do it with me standing there. read more

Belly Rubs is a top notch grooming salon that does not have the "dog smell" other grooming places have in town or the attitude (any of you that have dealt with a certain salon know which one I'm talking about). We don't have any kids and never will so our little girl is our pride and joy and we are very selective about who we leave her with. A far cry from the cramped grooming room at Petco, Belly Rubs is in a great, clean location right across the street from College Hills Meats and there is plenty of space for dogs to roam after they are done getting a hair cut. Kerry and his wife are great and you can tell they truly love the work they do. His wife even told my partner she wanted to "surprise" her husband with a visit from our dog because he loved her so much on a previous visit...where else can you get that? When our pup was ready a few hours later she smelled great, looked great, and had wonderful soft hair. I will definitely not be taking her anywhere else! I take the recommendations of other dog owners very seriously and I hope my fellow dog owners will do the same with this review. Belly Rubs is not a giant kennel/boarding operation or a huge pet megastore. What they are is a caring small business that will take care of the four legged creatures that mean so much to us. read more

I'm such a fan. After not being completely pleased with my puppy's first grooming, I took a co-worker's recommendation and even if you have to book several weeks in advance, this place is completely worth it. Other reviewer Kaitlynn has it right: you go in and you see the grooming tables, and the place is still clean and functional. The high half wall was a little surprising at first, but I quickly came to appreciate it once I realized that there were a few dogs trotting around and playing before and after their groomings. In fact, my little corgi immediately found a tennis ball and started scurring around as soon as he went through, and for me, that's a very good sign that he's relaxed enough to play. Their tagline of "every groom starting with a belly rub" is a great representation of their incredibly friendly and playful staff. It's not just a fun time, though. When I came to pick up my dog (and I completely respect their asking you to come back after they call you -- imagine your pup jumping from clippers once it sees you), he looked amazing. Great paw trim and they even managed to do his nails without him *completely freaking out.* I appreciate that they wrote down my requests as I dropped him off. I'm going to be a regular customer, and tell everyone I know who's looking for a groomer. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Belly Rubs. My little rescue maltese/yorkie mix desperately needed a good shave-down, and I'm very particular about where to take him (partly because I've heard too many horror stories at some places and also because he's been abandoned so many times, he has terrible separation anxiety). When you first walk in, you immediately see someone grooming. There are no secrets in this place - you see the whole operation, and that put me at ease. Some other doggies were walking around, all very friendly and looking happy as can be. I love that I knew exactly how they groom the dogs. I was also worried that Connor would grow upset because I wasn't there, but that didn't appear to be the case. He was walking around with the other dogs when we arrived and looked GREAT. I was so happy that he was calm in that environment, and that also means that the staff there really know how to handle dogs, even ones with bad anxiety. As far as the actual haircut went, I'll repeat myself - it was great. No problems at all, and the woman who took him in (I'm not sure if she was one of the co-owners?) wrote down exactly what I wanted and he turned out perfectly. Another bonus to this place - the staff seems to have dealt with all kinds of dogs. We were looking at different anxiety treatments they had in the store, and they talked us through what tends to work for dogs similar to mine. They said that about 60% of their clients are rescues, so they've seen the anxiety issues before and were able to help us out. It was just so wonderful to not only have them give such a nice cut, but to also be able to talk to us about other dog issues. They are so friendly, and I wish I could give them more stars! On top of everything, the haircut was incredibly inexpensive. We bought some calming drops on top of a full cut, and it was less than $50. What a steal! After being so displeased with the groomer I was taking my puppy to, I took a coworker's advice and brought my dog here to get groomed. I was terrified when I brought him in because the last place that I took him treated both of us so poorly because of the condition of his hair, but as soon as I brought him in, the staff was nothing but friendly and loving towards him. He's a yorkie shih tzu, and has super curly hair- which gets matted pretty easily. I explained he can be a little difficult because he's still learning, but they were very understanding and assured me they could get him taken care of. When I came to pick him up, he was a whole new dog! Beautifully groomed and he looked so happy. I told the staff multiple times, but I am so pleased with this place. My first experience was absolutely tremendous and I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I will 100% recommend this place to everyone I know. read more

Nice owner and staff. Thoughtful as well. My Mom took her Pom, Honey Bear, on a regular basis before she died. That's how I found this place. Now I cannot keep up with how often she took her, but when they need to go I always take her and our other dog here. Owner remembers the dog and treats her like a queen. Prices are fair. My fur babies (Yorkies), Toby and Jasper, love the attention they get at Belly Rubs. In addition to being a great groomer, Kerry advocates for homeless pets. I have taken my 70lb dog to many groomers in town for nail clippings, but he is always too feisty to get the job down. I took him to Belly Rubs today hoping this place could master it. To my surprise, he gladly let them do it! He was so at ease and they were very patient and sweet with him. This place is great! Paid $12 and the vet (who had to restrain my dog to clip his nails) charged $20. We will gladly return to Belly Rubs! read more

When we first got her she was very hesitant around other dogs due to her size, but when we picked her up from Belly Rubs she was playing with all the other pups and happy as can be! I tried them 4 times. Yes the owners a nice but I have several concerns. (1) They didn't even ask for vaccination papers so he could be exposed to who-knows what from other animals without proper vaccinations? (2) They claimed to have expressed the glands, but when my pet started to scoot on the carpet shortly afterward I took him to the vet to have it checked in case he had worms (which he didn't) and they said it appeared not to have been done for months. One extra trip to the vet. (3) Teeth brushing; again, not evident. After 4 visits in a row there should have been some sign that his teeth/breath had more care than before, not less. (4) On the third visit, he had two bloody nicks on his paws. He's never been nicked like that anywhere else and the owners didn't even mention it. I know it can easily happen, but these were actually bloody and should have been brought to my attention. (5) On the fourth and final visit, there was a large cut on his penis that was not there before because it was very visible and he was miserable....omg, poor guy!! Are you KIDding me!? Another trip to the vet. (6) And lastly...I'm not a mean-spirited person, but Kerry apparently has some type of psoriasis that my pet now shares and did not before. I won't know if this is a coincidence or not until I see the vet on Saturday. They do seem like nice people though! read more

The owner Kerry is such a nice guy and always listened to what I wanted and did such an excellent job. I wish I didn't leave 2 hours away, because I would have loved to keep taking Lola here. I'm very picky about where I take my dogs and this is the best place I have found! They are friendly, and they seem to genuinely care about the animals. The animals are never put in cages in a different room, they are allowed to run around and play! One of my dogs isn't very social and they made her a little bed so she could just lay in the corner and watch. They made her feel comfortable...And, they do a great job! But, the only drawback is you have to book an appointment at least 6 weeks in advance. I would forget until my dogs were looking pretty shabby and think I"d be able to get them in right away. Now I know to book an appointment pretty soon after they are groomed. I recommend them highly! read more

I fell in love with this place the first time I took my Lhasa apso here! She is 3 years old and I've taken her other places (I used to live in Champaign), and while they did a good job most of the time it just didn't feel quite like Belly Rubs. The first thing I love is that Lily can run around before and after her cut. Other places keep her in a crate. Second, you can see the grooming tables when you walk in and the staff is always friendly. And third, they do an amazing job! Both times I've taken her she has come back looking fantastic! Exactly the way I want her to look. The other place I've taken her to sometimes decides to do things a little bit differently than I ask, but not here! As others have said, you have to book a couple weeks out which is tough to remember sometimes but it's worth it! Lily came back so tired from her haircut and playing she didn't even watch me eat food (which we all know is amazing with a dog)! read more
