1 Star -- Extremely Disappointing and Dangerous Experience…read more This was my first time ordering from Top Tier Catering, and unfortunately, it will likely be my last. I ordered through Uber Eats, but before placing my order, I went above and beyond to make sure I could safely eat the food. I actually called the restaurant beforehand and specifically asked about my sesame allergy. I was told that the wings I was interested in contained sesame seeds, but that if I made note of my allergy, the kitchen would follow those instructions. Fast-forward to my order arriving about 40 minutes later -- and after spending $55 -- I discovered that two of my four items had sesame seeds all over them. And when I say all over them, I mean whoever prepared the food went absolutely crazy with the sesame seeds. There were even sesame seeds inside the container with the pork chops and in one of my containers of collard greens. I cannot explain how frustrating and upsetting this was, especially because I took the time to call the restaurant BEFORE ordering specifically to discuss my allergy. I also listed my sesame allergy multiple times when placing the order through Uber Eats. To make matters worse, the receipt attached to the bag clearly listed my allergies -- not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR times under the individual meals. There was even a large section on the receipt clearly marked "ALLERGIES." At that point, I genuinely had to question whether the kitchen staff simply didn't read the order or were being negligent. This isn't a preference or a request to leave off an ingredient that I don't like. This is a food allergy that I specifically disclosed multiple times. Cross-contamination and failure to follow allergy instructions can have serious consequences. I immediately tried to resolve the issue. Since I ordered through Uber Eats, I had to submit a claim through the app, as there isn't an easy way to speak directly with a live person. So now I have to wait and see whether Uber will actually refund me. I also called the restaurant directly. A man answered the phone and told me to hold. I waited on hold for approximately eight minutes before eventually hanging up. I called back several times afterward, and the phone began going straight to voicemail. And before anyone says I should have simply brought the food back: I live more than 20 minutes away, which is exactly why I ordered through Uber Eats. I made several attempts to contact the establishment and give them an opportunity to address this directly before posting this review, but unfortunately, I was unable to reach anyone. I am extremely disappointed. When a customer clearly discloses a serious food allergy before ordering, in the order notes, and on the receipt, the expectation should be that those instructions are taken seriously. This was not a minor mistake -- it was a major failure in handling an explicitly stated allergy. I hope the restaurant takes this situation seriously and reviews how allergy orders are communicated and prepared in the kitchen. I understand accidents happen, but this should not have happened. You literally have to read the order to prepare the food so how did you miss sesame allergy on a receipt paper more than four times I will never understand!

Proteins are on the left side of the large enclosed steam table. Then, go to the right side and inform the server of your additional choices. There is a language barrier, but we knew in advance what we wanted and used the 'Point and Choose' method. We pointed to the Griot (Pork dish) Tasso (Goat dish) and Fried Fish for our proteins. Then chose three different types of rice. Each dish automatically comes with fried green plantain, macaroni gratin (mac and cheese), and a vegetable salad. Also included are small containers of pickliz, an escovitch-type vinegar based sauce, which definitely enhances the flavors. No complaints were made by my family, on the different spices used on each of these tasty, well seasoned dishes. Aside from the language barrier, another disadvantage, no poster board menus displayed or available to-go menus to peruse. Nor are there any names listed to identify each of the food items on the steam table. Maybe if the Turkey bacon was chopped smaller and there was more of a Bbq flavor incorporated into the ground Turkey we would've been able to taste the filling. The upside was that the empanada was crunchy which we liked. The spinach empanada was pretty tasty. The spinach was sautéed perfectly, but the empanada itself was on the oily side. We tried the baked chicken which was lackluster in taste. It was on the drier side and could've used more seasoning. We asked for mild Shrimp Rasta pasta, but it was extremely spicy. We both enjoy spicy food, but my hunny definitely has a better tolerance than I do. He even commented on how spicy it was. The shrimp was overcooked. We weren't thrilled with the fried founder. It was flaky and didn't have the same texture as fried whiting. Also I'm not a fan of citrusy flavors. The fish was too lemony for my liking. If I would've known she used lemon in her recipe I wouldn't have agreed to the fried flounder. Overall, I would have given this place a second chance under different circumstances.
