We love Below Zero... lived by it for over a year, before we realized what it was and is. Thought it was a water store! They need to advertise, set regular hours, not based on weather condition.. I always get the X-Large Big Stick for around 5$. Seriously, this place is amazing. Such amazing prices for such amazing shaved ice. Two scoops of ice cream one on top and one at the bottom. One behavior that really rubs me the wrong way: business owners/managers criticizing employees in public, right in front of customers. As a customer, I immediately feel uncomfortable and humiliated for the employee. During my visit to Below Zero two weeks ago, a female owner or manager sharply disparaged an employee in front of several customers. The offense? Asking the manager to clarify the price of an item. The manager wan't much friendlier with the customers. The shave ice was fine. But I'd prefer to eat my desserts in a happy, upbeat environment. read more

THis place is fantastic!!! The prices are very good, the ice cream/shaved ice combos are soo yummie! The people who work here are very friendly and they let us try a sample of the dill pickle favor shaved ice. They also gave us a stamp card and you get double stamps on Tuesday and Thursday.... Great little shave ice place. My friend (who's from Hawai'i, so she knows her shave ice!) and I have been saying we need to try this place ever since the banners first went up saying "Shaved Ice, Coming Soon!" Sadly, my friend and I are slackers, so we just got around to trying it yesterday. As far as shave ice places go, this one is simple, but does what they do very well. They have probably between 30-40 syrup flavors, including some really random ones like "Silver Fox" (almond vanilla), "Mojito", and "Tiramisu", in addition to the more common flavors. In addition to the shave ice, they have a selection of ice cream (maybe 15 flavors?) that they use for "combinations". I got a large regular shave ice (about $3.50?) and it was huuuuuuuge! I got the Mojito, Mango, and Tidal Wave (tropical fruit flavor combination), but I think next time I'll stick with just the Mango and Tidal Wave. It was exactly what I've been looking for. The staff were really friendly, and even let us hang out a little later while they closed up so we could finish. (We showed up just a bit before closing.) The only downsides are that they close kind of early (7pm in the winter, 8pm in the summer) and they don't have a wide range of toppings like a lot of the local fro-yo/shave ice places do. That's not a huge problem for me, since I really only ever get syrups, but I do know it'll keep my boyfriend from going with me. read more

Was there just a few hours ago... very bad and rude treatment. When we showed our previous visit "frequent buyer card" the girl told us that they NO LONGER HONOR THAT CARD !!! and asked us if 'we wanted it back' !! For what - I have no idea . All the punches were FOR NOT !!! When I asked her, how come? Rather than talk to me politely about it... she told me she was not the boss and makes the rules. She rudely pointed to a sheet of paper on the counter and asked to me read it for myself ! When another customer who heard my complaint, voiced their concern.. the girl did not miss a beat... treated them the same way. We all left the place saying aloud to each other... 'what is going on here !!! ' If this kind of service goes on. . . many will not return. read more

What on earth is a Hawaiian shave ice place doing in the IE? Beats me! I've only had Hawaiian quality shave ice twice in the past five years in California, this makes number three! The first time was at the 1st Yelp Korean bbq festival -- I tried tracking that vendor down to a nonexistent storefront in Malibu after driving from Culver City.. piss me off! The next time was at the Get Shaved truck in Hacienda, and now here. They had all the weird flavors I wanted, like Dreamsicle, Tiger's Blood and something I've never even heard of, Silver Fox (which makes me think of Dorothy from Golden Girls for some reason). Anyway, they grind the ice SUPER fine here, it'll melt from you just breathing on it! One thing that was kind of disappointing was that they smash a lid down on the very airy ice after adding the syrups, thus disrespecting the fineness of the ice.
