    Hungarian Goulash
    Melissa T.

I had dinner here with my family on a Saturday evening. Initially we were told our wait would be around 45 minutes, but we only waited about 15 minutes. We were seated downstairs, which was very spacious and comfortable. The menu offered many great authentic dishes. I was in the mood for a little bit of everything so I ordered the Belvedere Platter - stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, potato pancakes, pierogies and hunter's stew. Everything was absolutely delicious...I was excited about having leftovers for the next day. A family member ordered the Hungarian Goulash and devoured the entire thing, while another got the Small Belvedere Platter. If you haven't been here before, I highly suggest you give them a try. My family and I will definitely be back again!

One of the best Polish restaurants on the East Coast. The menu is varied, the wait staff friendly, and the food is delicious. The chicken soup was homemade (even the noodles were homemade) and the beet soup amazing (try it with the mushroom ravioli). we both enjoyed the Belvedere platter, the large one included a tasty Kabasa and the pierogi simply amazing. There's enough different stuff on the menu to come back several times. We intend to.

I had no idea New Britain had a fancy Polish restaurant. Our waitress was so sweet and involved with our young kids. We had the BARSZCZ CZERWONY, which is a beet soup with dumplings, and the white barszcz. I tried the fried sheep cheese OSCYPEK which I had never had before. It is served with the cranberry jelly which adds a nice sweet note to the saltiness of the cheese. The texture of the cheese almost reminds me of a chicken nugget. I liked it. I got the small Belvedere Platter and chose, kielbasa, bacon & potato piergoie and golbaki (stuffed cabbage.) I was surprised that they don't seem to pan fry the pierogie since that's how my family prepares them. The 2 kiddos had a plate with mashed potatoes topped with dill, sautkraut, and of course kielbasa. I like the texture of the skin on the kielbasa it's nice and crisp/charred. My husband took our kid to the restroom and said it was the fanciest bathroom he'd ever been to at a restaurant. The room we were in was also the room that they use to rent out for private events. I'd love to have an occasion to use that space for something fancy. Overall a very pleasant meal with family.

Very impressed with the food here! I ordered the Belvedere Platter and really enjoyed everything on it. If I had one critique, I thought the potato pancakes were a little bland. Otherwise, everything was delicious and the portion size was perfect. Great prices, and the place was very clean. We will be returning!

Belvedere was my first introduction to Polish cuisine and it sure was an unforgettable one. The service is top-notch and the fare is even better. I'm looking forward to my next foray into all that Little Poland has to offer already. I went for the "Taste of Greater New Britain" prix five which includes an app, an entree and a dessert all for a steal of a price at $20.18! 3 Pierogis (5/5): This appetizer was demolished in seconds. Each pierogi was stuffed with a delicate combination of farmer's cheese and potatoes in the most supple of pierogi skins. These were also topped with a pinch of caramelized onions which added a delightful sweetness to the dish. Hungarian Goulash (5/5): OMG. The potato pancake is TO DIE FOR. Belvedere's potato pancake was unbelievably crispy, a textbook definition of perfectly fried potatoes. Unlike American hash browns, the Polish potato pancake is more than just fried shredded taters. Its center was soft and glutinous thanks to the matzo meal. Having been fried in schmaltz, this dish's aroma had all heads turning my way. My inner child was in fried potato heaven as I took each successive bite. The goulash on top made for a perfect soul mate to the pancake as well. It was a hearty stew of beef and melt-in-your-mouth onions and carrots. Tiramisu (5/5): One bite was all it took to ascertain this dessert was homemade. The mascarpone was light and fluffy. The syrup drowned lady fingers delivered a perfect hit of espresso. For $20.18, I was more than satisfied. Whether this is your first or your hundredth time experiencing Polish cuisine, Belvedere is a choice you won't regret.

Small platter with galumpki, kielbasa and potato pancake! So good & very filling!!

Five stars hands down! My family and I went here on a Monday afternoon so we had no problem grabbing a table. Our waitress was super friendly and nice which made our experience even better. My mom, sister and I got the small Belvedere platter with galumpkis, potato pancakes and kielbasa while my other sister got an entree of potato pancakes. Everything was amazing! I am not usually a fan of galumpkis but these were fantastic! The sauce was out of this world too! I also loved the kielbasa as it had a nice crunchy coating but juicy tender center! And last but the least the potato pancakes- wow- obviously fresh and absolutely delicious! After our meal we also were given some polish candy with our bill which was a cute way to end our visit. Belevedere's has easily become our new favorite place to eat! We will definitely be back!

If you were there in the past year (& if you'd never tried their Polish food before) .. you may have been disappointed ( as I was) as they were temporarily using a local vendors foods. It was nowhere near as good as what Pulaski has always made & thankfully, they are back to making their own!! We spoke with Rachel, a very sweet lady who came out of the back to see how we liked everything... I told her only 1 complaint.. the foods just a little TOO good! Lol Rachel makes the pierogi & golumbki & does an excellent job at both! Our waitress ( sorry I can't remember her name) was also great & apparently she makes the kapusta, which was also very tasty. The dining room is clean though dated, however the bar is on the other side & completely done over & appears they did a nice job. Casual atmosphere, great food & service.

(And I'm Irish, what the hell, eh?) About 1:00 PM, no waiting, very clean bar and banquet hall. Seat yourself, $15.00 & change for a Polish buffet that kept me full for the rest of the day! 2 types of Pierogis, kielbasy, sauerkraut and onions and golabkis AND a desert! FANTASTIC! I'd make the trip again just for the buffet and forget the family and the Big E!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This business has had a lot of publicity in the local press, so we *had* to try it, even though…read moretheir license is only beer and wine. (I'm a lush, if you've not read the rest of our writing on Yelp.) We're always looking for a new place to have a bite -- and several drinks. This place soft-opened a few weeks ago, and is now officially open. One must enter through the front door of Pol-Mart, a good delicatessen and Polish specialty store (I prefer Zieliniak, down the street, but I'll forgive the Pol-Mart people, because they're creative.) Apparently the space upstairs used to be a dusty gift shop. It's a lovely little cafe with a baby grand piano, a stage, and some ambitious lighting effects. They currently offer live entertainment on only Fridays - but have plans for more. The decor is very Old Country, but handsome and clean. The appointments (glassware, cutlery) are of high quality. We love that - we love a professional restaurant that doesn't cut corners. There's a great beer selection - not vast, but good. Wines are limited and cheap, but not very good, but a good value. I bought a glass, then a bottle, of the serviceable Riesling from Zum, in Germany. Best Buddy had his usual Bud Light. We're delighted they have domestics for him, because there are too many places in town (craft breweries, Polish restaurants) which offer only hops-heavy brews. These folks have you covered. The menu is a delight! There are two different cold-cut platters, either for one ($7-$9) or for two ($10-$12), with bread and pickles to accompany. A "French" platter contained only cheeses. It's all gotta be good because they source all the charcuterie from the deli downstairs! A modest offering of the most popular Polish foods appears on the menu (Pierogies, savory and sweet; stuffed cabbage, and the like -- and salads, by themselves or with a grilled chicken breast or a piece of salmon). We didn't try that -- we opted instead for hamburgers. The waitress, who was delightful, actually asked "why are you coming to a Polish restaurant for *hamburgers?*" I told her that our starting-out place on Broad Street in Little Poland, the Belvedere, had begun to close every Wednesday. I left the new People's Bank, and expected to go across the street to have a Scotch or three -- and then recalled that the bartender had lamented that the ownership decided to take a day off on Wednesdays. So this brought us to this little cafe. (I missed the Scotch, but it's okay). Soft music played in the background, and out the window one could view the enormous cathedral that graces the middle of Broad Street. The whole deal, three beers, a glass and a bottle of wine and two very nice burgers was only $50. It was an off-peak time, so I had to get up to summon our server twice, but she was very, very nice and very professional. She encouraged us to visit on a Friday night when they have the live music. Go here - it's a great place, trying hard, and needs to establish itself. There aren't enough places in New Britain to get a drink at lunch, and that's another (selfish) reason why we love the place.
