There are all sorts of Polish canned goods, groceries, baked goods and candies, a big freezer chock full of pierogies, soups and the like, and a deli counter with as many varieties of kielbasa and hams you've ever seen. Fils sells five hot lunch specials for under $10, and I ordered Special #1 -a Kielbasa sandwich on a roll with onions, peppers, mustard and a pickle for $8.99. Bożena, our charming server, said it would take a while to prepare, and I soon smelled the kielbasa and vegetables being freshly grilled in the back. You see, the sandwich was freshly made to order as we waited. It was delicious! Split grilled kielbasa with those veggies and mustard on a very fresh roll. Quite a feast for just $8.99. We left with a container of chicken spread, a package of frozen fruit and cheese pierogis, a package of frozen potato pancakes, an envelope of mushroom barley soup, and that great kielbasa sandwich. Those six examples of Polish deliciousness ran $26.82. I love little ethnic delis like Fils, and I bet you will too. read more

I checked Yelp to see if there were any good restaurants in the area, and happened to see a Polish Deli! I thought I had to drive to New Britain or Ansonia for Polish food. Tons of items for sale. I ordered a kielbasa sandwich to go and picked up frozen cheese and sauerkraut pierogis, potato pancakes, some kielbasa and sauerkraut, blueberry crepes, and some rye bread. I'll update once I try all the frozen items, but I had a few bites of the kielbasa sandwich with onions and peppers and it was very tasty!! read more

Great Polish Deli. We get the fine ground polska kielbasa there and only there. The pierogi selection is great and very very good. Fils is great! they have the best hots dog (for lack of a better term) that you can find. Their ham is delicious as are the couple of pierogi varieties I've tried. So who knew there was an awesome polish market/Deli/butcher a 5 minute drive from Main Street in Middletown? I didn't until my coworker mentioned Fil's. A small storefront in a strip mall a stones throw from route 9, chock full of polish candy, sauces, baked goods, pierogis, mustards, tea, juices etc. a very impressive selection for a compact space. I bought kielbasa, blueberry pierogis and traditional potato pierogis, mustard and real cordial chocolates. Next time I will get the home made babka also you can get a fresh plate of pierogis cooked up to go for a tasty inexpensive lunch. Excellent quality, delicious and a fair price. Friendly service and they speak English unlike some of the grocery stores in New Britain. It is not huge but they had what I needed, I will be back! read more

This is one of Middlesex County's hidden gems. The deli offers many varieties of meats and cheeses. There is a great selection of sausage/kielbasa. The Hunter Kielbasa is our family's favorite, with it's wonderful spices and garlic. You can also grab a sandwich with a side, for lunch or dinner. The grocery area is always stocked with an array of Polish delicacies. There are pierogi (savory and sweet), breads, canned goods and so much more! There are things in this store, that I have never seen in the conventional grocery stores. Easter is a very busy time for this little shop. Get there early, the line can go out the door. I had been meaning to stop in for a few years, but always seemed to forget when I was in the immediate area. I managed to remedy that situation recently and found this tiny deli tucked way back in an nondescript shopping plaza. On entering I was disappointed to find both the pierogies and soup were frozen. After checking out what was available, I purchased a small container of white borsch plus a dozen cheese and potato pierogies. Since I regularly frequent Little Poland in New Britain, I was not overly impressed by either the soup or pierogies though I would consider possibly purchasing a sandwich for lunch should I find myself in the area again. read more

Unfortunately, I am basing this part of my review entirely on the fact that their online ordering process is no longer working. This one star review is not based on the food. I stick by my original four star rating as it relates to their food. Although I love the food that Fil's has to offer, I'm extremely disappointed that I can no longer order from them online. I've ordered online before but it no longer works. Their website should tell you that you can't order online but instead it allows you to get all the way through the process of putting in your order, your credit card information, shipping address, shipping method, etc..., even gives you a total cost... only to tell you that the merchant is down. I called and tried to order via phone and was told they only accept email orders and that they cannot estimate shipping charges until they go to UPS with your package. By that time, it's too late to change your mind if the shipping cost is too high and they told me it might be $30 for my small order.... I assume their online business is small otherwise they'd correct this problem but unfortunately for me, that means no good Fil's polish food unless I'm in CT. I expressed my disappointment but all they did was politely apologize. If they valued their online customers as much as they do their in-store clientele, they'd try a little harder. read more

Driving around aimlessly one day during my lunch hour, wondering what to eat, I came upon Fil's, a place I had always been meaning to try. Tucked away in the corner of a plaza on the Shunpike with a lot of different businesses that have come and gone, Fil's has had staying power there for years so I figured it must be good. Was I ever right! For $6.50 I got a home made Polish platter that included an almost foot long fried kielbasa served with peppers, onions and bacon as well as four filling cheese and potato pierogis. The bacon was very thick cut and looked very much like ham but it added a ton of flavor and texture. The combo was delicious and well worth the money. It had everything I like about Polish food in it! They also have a few other lunch specials to choose from. Fil's also is a mini store where you can do some quick shopping for various polish foods and assorted other items. I highly recommend a visit to Fil's for a quick, home made, hearty and inexpensive lunch. read more

The pierogies are to die for. Simple cheese and potato pierogies (6 of them) pan fried with bacon and onion. If you eat in, it is all served on real stoneware plates with real silverware. The price is amazing: $5.50 for that yummy plate! And don't forget to check out the unusual groceries. I picked up chocolate covered shortbread cookies with blueberry and hazelnut pieces in it. This is a fun place to pick up some tasty Polish meats and treats. Clean and I always try something new every visit. The owner is very helpful as I do not know as much about Polish food as a person of Polish Ancestry should. The Kabanosy are excellent snacks with the delicious Garden Horesradish (Chrzan) in the non refrigerated section. Just strong enough to be a great condiment with the meats. Generally, an excellent market especially for meats. I have been a shopper in the store for several years and have never been disappointed with the kielbasa. While some of the meat and vegetable pierogis are excellent, I was disappointed with two of the dessert pierogis I recently purchased. Both the blueberry and strawberry products had little or no taste with the strawberry being the worst. It was not clear there was any actual fruit in them. Rather it appeared to be mainly food coloring mixed with farmers cheese. I have not made them myself but will look for recipes that include fruit preserves and try my luck. Fils might want to consider another supplier, or if store made, some other recipe. As currently sold, these products are not worth the price. read more

My girlfriend and I moved to Middletown a month ago and were excited because she's half-Polish and there's a Polish grocery around the corner from us. Fil's doesn't disappoint! The Golabki is really good. The potato pancakes are well seasoned and crisp up nicely in the air fryer. The potato pierogis are good, but the meat pierogis are excellent. My girlfriend says they taste like her grandmother's stuffing which was a nice surprise. All in all it's awesome there's a great Polish deli in the area and we highly recommend it. read more

Today (9/6/17) was the first time we had ever been here, and we will definitely be going back. You either have the option to eat in the store, or take home frozen foods, most of which are handmade in the store (like pierogies, which were delicious) or from local companies. They also have a lot of European/Polish specialty groceries (that would be hard to find anywhere else), deli meats/cheeses, and other items. Really interesting place. Everyone I talk to about it had no idea it even existed. My family and I went there over the weekend to buy some progies. I had no idea what to expect. When we walked in we saw a ton of different types of Eastern European pre packed products, most not in English. As we made our way to the back of the store, we found the progies frozen sitting in a freezer. We purchased a potato and onion and a blueberry dessert one. I have already made the potato and onion one and it was really good. It was stuffed with filling! I am very excited to try the dessert one. They aren't the cheapest compared to store bought but worth every penny. Definitely give this place a try. read more

My family buys their pierogies here every year for Christmas Eve dinner. We bought our usual potato and cheese and sauerkraut ones and a raisin bobka. Cooked up the pierogies and served them. The sauerkraut ones contained mushrooms also. I know they sell that combo as I specifically avoided those packages. Figured we would try the ones I cooked but the mushrooms gave it such an off putting taste no one would eat them. I brought back the wrapper (threw out the product as why would I keep that in my fridge and then drive around with it.) and the receipt and asked for my money back because they were mislabeled and not good tasting. She was asking where the product was I explained in the trash. I told her I wanted my money back for the 2 packs and showed her a picture that they were indeed mushroom and sauerkraut. She begrudgingly gave me my money back. She explained they make a lot and mistakes can happen. I tried to explain that it's unacceptable to mislabel items with incorrect ingredients. There are plenty of people with all kinds of allergies. She didn't seem to be concerned. We will not be purchasing anything from here any longer as we can't trust we will get what we pay for. read more

Finding myself on a road trip in the middle of Connecticut, hungry, in need of a good bite but awash in a sea for fast food drive-thru and chain restaurants, Yelp directed me to Fil's Delicatessen. It is more like a small Polish market with a deli counter, but what a treat to find this place. The deli case is packed with homemade kielbasas of several sorts, and out of the everyday coldcuts and some cheeses. I opted for a liverwurst sandwich on rye with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The bread, lettuce and tomato were all fresh and provided a nice balance to the buttery liverwurst, which was more like a fluffy pate. Outstanding! I also took home a link of a beef & pork country kielbasa, which smelled so heavenly on the very long ride back, that the kielbasa was lucky to have made it home in one piece. I ate here once before and it was delicious. Today the woman at the counter refused to make or serve me lunch because she was busy and there was nobody else there to help her. There were two people behind me and she had made lunch for two men ahead of me, it looked and smelled great. But like I said she refused to serve me, not sure if it was because I am wearing my military uniform.
