I went for lunch with the cousins for my MIL's 90 to birthday. Parking is an issue, especially when our party was all in their 80's. It's on street parking with meters. I have a gluten allergy and was happy to have some gluten-free options. I had the Chicken Christina, with a side salad. The salad was very good. Pasta was good. Just ended up at Amici after many years having had good meals there. We were planning on eating at the Inn at Middletown but there was a forty minute wait. We had called ahead yesterday for reservations but they said not needed for a party of three! Actually the meal was probably better here. I had a special of the evening: Veal Tower. It was very delicious and the only veal on the menu. It came as a stack of veal, mushrooms, red peppers atop great mashed potatoes and excellent gorgonzola cheese. Spouse and I had lunch at Amici on Saturday, May 24, 2025. I am very, very happy to report that Amici is even better than I have previously commented. The food is excellent- (I had the cod with spinach and spouse had the shrimp with pasta, and we shared the garlic bread-very cheesy! in the best way possible) and the service by Sedona was impeccable. One of the best things about Amici is that you are not rushed, unlike other restaurants where you are expressly or implicitly on the clock. Do you know what I mean? Those restaurants that either inform you of your time limit for dining, and it's your problem if the kitchen is backed up-too bad for you! Your time here is up! Or restaurants that implicitly rush you by presenting the bill while you are still finishing the main course, and wondering about dessert. Amici paces the courses so that you actually get a chance to savor the food instead of gulping it down, have a chance to converse with others at your table, and actually enjoy the experience of eating out. The courses are paced, so you are neither rushed nor are you sitting wondering if the food got lost on the way from the kitchen. On the other hand, Amici will accommodate you if you only have so much time to spare-just tell your server when you sit down. read more

I haven't been to Amici since pre-covid, and at that time it was just so-so. I am glad we gave it another try. We stopped by for Sunday dinner and were greeted by a friendly host and waitstaff. Amici has stepped up their game and are offering an expansive menu now. The bread was very fresh, as was the dinner salad. They have a huge wine and cocktail menu with full bar capabilities too. For dinner, I had Chicken Milanese, a classic standard Italian dish. The chicken was breaded well and the sauce was on point. I enjoyed it, and I'd order it again. I also sampled the Tortellini in alfredo with broccoli, which was an excellent vegetarian option. The dessert was tasty too. I had the creme brulee and she had the tiramisu. Amici is a long-time Middletown Italian joint that is holding its own, and this experience made me want to go back. Service was friendly, professional, and gracious for your business. read more

Amici Italian Grill is a really nice restaurant with tasty food in downtown Middletown. I visited Amici for the first time tonight and I liked the nice quaint ambiance. Large comfortable booths with dimmed lighting. I ordered the fried calamari and tortellini with marinara sauce for dinner. Both were fresh tasty. Calamari was very hot when it came out and had a perfect bite. Tortellini was hot, flavorful and went well with the fresh marinara sauce. The tortellini comes with a side salad, too. Tasty! For dessert, I had the cannoli. Very large with creamy filling, rainbow sprinkles and powdered sugar. I heard they have good caramelized apple cheesecake, too! The staff that works here is very friendly and nice. My waitress was very nice and Peter was great! Altogether, Amici Italian Grill serves good Italian food in Middletown. I've been here countless times and its amazing every time. I strongly suggest if you go here to ask to sit in Peter's section, he is an older Italian gentleman and he is so funny and sweet. Last time I went here we got the bruschetta and boneless wings as apps. The bruschetta came with 3 pieces and it was delicious with melty mozzarella on top. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about wings at an Italian place but honestly they were amazing and a huge portion, honestly it could've been a meal. As entrees, I got the broccoli cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce and I added chicken to it. It was good but could have been a bit more flavorful, the chicken didn't seem entirely seasoned. My date got the chicken parm, it was really good and also a huge portion. There were definitely leftovers for both entrees. They have a very good drink menu but I always get a peach cosmo, its not on the menu but they make a great one. In the past I've also had the chicken marsala which was perfectly made and the calamari is always really nice and crisp. The location is downtown Middletown so there is paid street parking but its free after 6pm. read more

Dining in here is is always amazing, easily one of my favorite restaurants...but the take-away food i got today for Mother's Day was a little sad. Penne aka vodka is my all time favorite meal but it was so watery today. Either they didn't drain the pasta well, and it diluted the sauce when it was packaged, or they're making the vodka sauce so runny these days. Also, the mushrooms....just so so many mushrooms. Like there had to be forty in my meal. I will still return in the future for dining in, but probably not again for take-out. read more

Great service and great food. We were surprised to get a seat right away on a Friday evening. The food was delicious. We ordered fried calamari and the special lobster &shrimp bisque which were both delicious. Our main entrees were the lasagna which came with a house salad and the second entree was the garlic steak which came with a Caesar salad and mashed potatoes. First, they let us seat with our small dog in the patio but they placed us in the back, far away from any other table, in an alley on the side of the restaurant. We asked why seating us like if we had some infectious disease and the lady said it was the manager's decision. We asked to talk to the manager and he never came to see us. He did pass by several times and look the other way. Took 2 full hours for 2 appetizers and 4 mediocre pasta dishes. They brought us the check before even asking for desert or coffee. Food ok, but better Italians in main street than this one. Pasta no way is home made. Final thought... it was Mother's Day... if you allow guests with dogs in the patio, just treat those guest like everyone else. It's stupid otherwise. We were in search of good martinis and found this place. They had quite the list of martinis so we were excited to try this place. It did not disappoint! The martinis were delicious. I tried the tiramisu martini and the almond joy martini. The almond joy wasn't creamy which I'm used to, but it had excellent flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, I got the gnocchi with sausage. Met an old coworker here for lunch today and had a good experience. Today was the first time visiting the Middletown location, several years ago I went to the Avon location for dinner (I don't recall that experience being anything memorable) and today's experience definitely seemed better than the last - not sure if it had anything to do with lunch vs dinner or the actual meal I selected. Almost immediately after being brought to our table our waiter (Peter) brought over bread and oil - the focaccia was fresh, not warm but certainly not cold. This was just what I needed to keep me happy until the main meal arrived. I ordered the Cuban panini and was offered fries, salad, or pasta salad as a side. Initially I was going to go for the pasta salad, but when the person I was dining with ordered fries, I quickly changed my mind and opted for fries. The fries didn't disappoint, perfectly cooked not overly crunchy and not too soft. The sandwich was a decent size - the inside wasn't warmed through but the bread offered a nice crunch. I may have had one too many bites of bread because I couldn't finish my sandwich. The person I dined with ordered the Philadelphia and finished it - thinking they really enjoyed it! We finished our meals with coffees and cappuccinos - perfection! Peter came back and refilled my coffee which was wonderful! Overall great experience: tasty food & wonderful customer service the moment I walked through the doors. My fav is the Espresso, The apps are good, salads are fresh and the portion sizes are perfect. The waitstaff is very accommodating and friendly. Absolutely LOVED this place! This was our second time going in 5 years and it was just as good the 2nd time. The interior is beautifully designed with plenty of outdoor seating on the patio. Four of us visited Amici's Middletown last evening @ ~ 5:30. The bar and dining room were both pretty busy for a Tuesday evening. We were served by one of the owners (John) & an outstanding very attentive waitress (Liz). They both brought their "A" game as we had bread & drinks in less than 10 minutes. The drinks included a couple glasses of wine, a soft drink, and a generous Margarita Rocks NO Salt that'll knock your hat in the creek! The salad course was noteworthy, particularly the Apple Wedge, Caesar & Mixed Spring. I went here today for lunch because I was in court down the street I popped in because I had an hour to kill. I ordered a sandwich. A Cuban Panini I wish I had taken a picture of it because it was actually great. The best part was I hate half of my sandwich and I asked the waitress if they could hold onto the other half for me in the refrigerator and I will pick it up once I was done with court she said absolutely yes and that worked out quite well thank you so much. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Middletown. Consistently good service and quality food. Can be pricey if you do the whole appetizer/dinner/dessert thing with wine/drinks, but the same is true of any of the Italian restaurants in Middletown. Amici is priced similarly with Tuscany Grill, First and Last and Fiore II. I went with a couple of friends on 7/5/13 for lunch. My first time there for lunch, and I was excited as I get their emails every week and the lunch specials always sound so good. One of my friends got my favorite, the pan seared scallops (YUM - always perfectly cooked). My other friend and I got paninis, I got the tomato and mozzarella, she got the portobello mushroom. I was a little disappointed that there was a charge to sub out a salad for the fries, the sandwich on the specials menu came with salad but those on the regular menu came with fries or pasta salad. No big deal though, lots of restaurants do the same. I had the watermelon sangria (not very strong as far as alcohol content) and then a watermelon martini. Perfect summer drink!!! Good lunch spot but GREAT dinner spot. Definitely on our list of go to restaurants in town for special occasions or a romantic date night. read more

Decided to come visit my son at Wesleyan at the last minute and was struggling to find a dinner reservation (Saturday night before Valentine's Day). Should have known when I called the restaurant on Friday and was told - "oh, you'll have no problem getting in at 6 on Saturday. No need for reservations," that this was not going to be great. Looked at the reviews though which seemed positive and thought since my son and I love Italian we wouldn't be disappointed. We were disappointed. Pros - got a table right away at 6 pm - server was friendly Cons - server was overwhelmed/kitchen backed up so our food took an extremely long time to come out - focaccia was dry - bruschetta had melted cheese on it but was cold. Clearly had been sitting in the kitchen for a while or had been prepared earlier in the day. - our entrees were bland and greasy - I was going to just push through my meal because it was overcooked and I didn't want to send it back and risk a long wait for the redo. Server insisted so I relented. Food came back better the second time, but at the end of the day, it was a mediocre cut of meat which was not worth the price. I was over the restaurant and just wanted to leave. We would rather have had fast food like Chipotle. We will not return. read more

I paid $500 for lunch banquet of 16, and it was horrible, absolutely horrible. They also did not refrigerate my $300 wedding cake so it melted and fell apart. $800 wasted and 5 to 6 hours of my wedding day gone. My party was scheduled and they had nothing ready for us. They didn't serve us bread and kept us waiting for any type of food for over three hours, that is no exaggeration, it was three hours. I was also never told my party would be split into 3 due to Covid until I arrived, our tables weren't even close to each other. I couldn't see the rest of my family. Had i known that I wouldn't have booked the place. Once seated they gave us disgusting water pitchers with things that were floating in it, and all the glassware was dirty. When I notified them about it they didn't change out the cups, just switched out one and each pitcher (2 more after the first) they brought back had the same floating white stringy stuff. We gave up and didn't drink anything. Within the first 3-4 hours we weren't served any bread or any appetizers. When we did finally get the food it was absolutely disgusting and bland, the noodles were watery??, chicken soggy from the noodles, & the salad was not a salad, it was cheese and dressing. Everything was still served with no bread, and they refused to make any modifications to any of the plates even though they obviously haven't cooked our food yet, and to top it all off whenever we needed something after the food was ordered it was like pulling teeth, we had to wait for long periods of time after asking multiple times. Had I not been so exhausted and wanting to cry that day I wouldn't of paid. It ruined my wedding day. And they destroyed my wedding cake by not refrigerating it for the whole 5 hours. We sat outside on a beautiful night. Tables were nicely spaced out. For an appetizer we had the Gorgonzola fondue. I liked it, the bread was toasted perfectly. We only had 1 piece of bread each since they were so big and we wanted to save room for our dinners. I had the penne all vodka with prosciutto. Nice size portion of pasta and sauce. The sauce in my opinion could have used more love. My husband had the baked penne. Like mine a nice portion of pasta and sauce again lacking in love on the sauce. Both sauces were pretty bland. We both took 75% of our main course home since it was so big. We also took home a nice big slice of chocolate cake. It was good but not house made. The servicer was good, he made sure he checked everything for us due to an food allergy. Overall the place is OK for food, good for sitting outside and service. Will we seek it out for a great night out for food? Probably not. I am not saying we might pop in for a drink outside and dessert. Good Italian restaurant! We had the risotto special tonight (for an appetizer) which was bacon, peas, mushroom and scallops and it was delicious! Not too many places get the scallops prepared and cooked so perfectly but Amici nailed it! The risotto took a good 20 minutes to get and was of great quality so it must have been made to order. There was definitely enough there to share with a table of 4 people and it would make an okay sized meal. For my main course, I had the Veal and Shrimp Di Capo. This was good and the sauce had a good flavor to it and the veal and shrimp were prepared well and were tender. Others in my group had the Chicken Christina, Fettuccini Alfredo, and grilled pork chops. I sampled all of the entrees and each was quite good. I was impressed by the fettuccini alfredo as the sauce wasn't full of oil. I prefer a slightly richer and thick sauce but this was still very good! For dessert I had Warmed White Chocolate which is described as "White chocolate, fresh cream and pure vanilla delicately stirred over heat until melted. Served warm with seasonal fresh berries" It was great. My friends had the chocolate raviolis, creme brulee, and tiramisu all of which were delicious. read more
