After getting out of the ferry, there was a line where we were be driven in trams to the observation area. Because we had brought a cart, one of the park employees brought it up on a van instead. The island is beautiful, historical, clean and makes me want to visit again. Once we were in the area, it provided a view of the fireworks in Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge and the random areas within the city with fireworks. Although the colorful fog was more visible than the fireworks itself, just the experience of celebrating Independence Day as well as a birthday was worth it. We had a chance to watch and listen to a canon get fired, we got free neon lights, watched civil war soldiers, listened to the star spangled banner played by a small band. There was a small concession stand that sold sodas, coffee, hotdogs, cake, wine and brownies. Overall a fun experience, I would come back to explore the other parts of the island.

The…read morescenery alone makes it a great escape, but the Immigration Station is what really makes this place special. The island is peaceful and not overly crowded. You get incredible views of the San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the surrounding bay. It is a great spot for hiking, biking, or just relaxing by the water. The highlight for me was the Immigration Station. Walking through the barracks and reading the poems carved into the walls is powerful. It gives you a deeper appreciation for the history and the experiences of those who passed through. It is not something to rush through. Take your time and really take it in. Try to go earlier in the day so you have enough time to explore both the trails and the station. Also check the ferry schedule ahead of time so you are not cutting your visit short. Overall, it is a great mix of nature and history. Beautiful, meaningful, and definitely worth visiting.

Previously, we took the Freda B on the Wildlife Morning Sail in 2024, which was also fantastic. What makes the Freda B special is the crew. The vessel itself is gorgeous--even the "head" is great! From the moment you board and are greeted by the crew, you know you're in good hands. The safety instructions are thorough, and the crew immediately puts you at ease before setting off. Whether you have a clear night or a little fog (like tonight), the skies are beautiful, the Golden Gate Bridge is magical, and San Francisco twinkles in the distance. The crew meets your every need with kindness, excellent service, and genuine interest in you as a passenger. They're also an interesting bunch--just ask them about themselves! My husband bought the tickets online to the ferry that would bring us to Angel Island where we can watch the fireworks. Luckily public parking was half a mile from the ferry, we brought a cart to put in our chairs, blankets, snacks and pizza that we got from one of the nearby businesses. The crew was nice, helpful and efficient especially when loading the ferry with customers and holding people and ancillary staff. They were very accommodating with people needing assistance with their canes, walkers, and other passengers were kind enough to help accommodate those who needed seating most. Great experience, quick trip to the island, and we had fun with the kids.

Captain and crew were all friendly and welcoming and the naturalist was informative and excited to share her vast knowledge and experience. The crew intentionally included young people on board with raising the sails and such. Fun for them, and honestly fun for us to watch them learn through hands on experience. They serve up lots of beverage options during the trip, both with and sans alcohol. We went in early September and the weather was absolutely perfect. A bit chilly at first, which is to be expected, although we were able to shed a layer about halfway through. In addition to the overall gorgeousness of the Bay, we also saw lots of wildlife, mostly birds and harbour porpoises. The docking location is perfect, with nearby public parking, and lots of restaurant options if you plan to grab a bite to eat before or after your excursion. This is definitely a fun experience for both locals and visitors and something we will happily book again.

Unfortunately, the restaurant is at sea level so diners must look through the yachts to enjoy the view. The second floor dining room view that the Golden Gate Club offers is more captivating. The indoor dining room is elegantly appointed with sailing photos and some excellent paintings on the walls. There is a magnificently hand-sewn quilt depicting sailing scenes from the area and I feel it is a big mistake to have relegated this masterpiece to the ladies' powder. The porch dining is casual and lots of shade is provided. The food and drinks were very good. There are some rather original items on the menu, for example, tacos topped with fried eggs!! The burrata was quite good but not the best I have had. The interior of the mozzarella was not as creamy as it should be. Portions are ample and the bread basket contained a variety of tasty baked items . The butter was served in little balls which is a nice touch. Parking is convenient and the lot is spacious. I cannot comment on cost as we were guests and no check appeared on the table. I was disappointed to have read Phoebe's post that the venue refuses reciprocity. Shame on them if that is true.
