Started off in the small New England state of Vermont in the mid 1970s by two good friends named, no other than Ben and Jerry, their ice cream is still making ice cream lovers scream for ice cream! Today I stopped by the long standing West Hartford location. They had some available outdoor seating, the inside was colorful and clean. There was no one waiting inside. I got the Phish Food. This is their classic. It's their ultra creamy chocolate with mini marshmallows, caramel and fish shaped fudge. This was actually created in collaboration with the band Phish. While this isn't the best chocolate ice cream of life, however the blend of the other three super sticky and sweet ingredients make it a winner in my book. Ben & Jerry's is known for flavors blended with other combinations, where adding toppings is unnecessary. Ben and Jerrys is great-I have eaten many pints...lol. But it is nice to stop by a store front every once in a while. You can get your ice cream in a cup, cone, pint, cake, or shake. I opted to get mine in a cup. I ordered a cup of the peanut butter cup with hot fudge and my friend ordered a cup of the non dairy chocolate chip cookie dough with peanuts. I love Ben and Jerry's! Everyone is always super nice at this location and you know what to expect with the ice cream! Recently I went in for world vegan day for a free scoop of one of their two vegan ice creams. I choose the cookie dough which had a little bit of a strange aftertaste. However the more I ate it, the less I noticed it. It wasn't my favorite ice cream (the dairy free almond brittle was so good!) but it did the job for being free. The employees didn't tell us it was for customers only. The manager says "excuse me, I have to put up a sign on the table that read Ben and Jerry's customers only." We showed up at 10:15 on Saturday night, crossing our fingers that they were still open.... and, yep, they're open til 11. The staff was clearly starting to prep for closing and for the next day's setup but they still took time to give us the requested samples and get our scoops for us. A Ben and Jerry's Catering Truck came to my college campus. The employees were very friendly however I couldn't even eat my ice cream because I ordered vanilla and got small amounts of other flavors mixed in and the other flavors to choose from had peanuts or walnuts in them and I am deathly allergic to those. I also overheard someone in line behind me was also allergic and so Im assuming many of us stood in line for 20 minutes just to have to throw out the ice cream. read more

I've been to this location several times and, while it's really small inside, you can sit at the counter by the windows if there is room, or there's some small tables outside, or you can just walk around WHC with your treat! I was here most recently on a weekend night and the line for MilkCraft around the corner was literally out the door and down the block. We opted to come to Ben & Jerry's instead of waiting in that ridiculousness...and I'm so glad we did! There was not a wait at Ben & Jerry's and our cones were delicious as always. I have always enjoyed getting ice cream from this location. I especially like looking at the ice cream cakes in the freezer! I finally decided to order one myself. I gave them a call and the guy who answered my call would not take my cake order and told me to order it online. So I went to order it online. But online it says if you have allergies (peanuts/tree nuts in my case) or want a specialty design- which I want- to call the store. I tried calling the store twice a few days later and no one picked up. I then called the Glastonbury location and they immediately picked up and took my order. Ben & Jerry's - I am a devotee. I have made the pilgrimage a couple of times to the mother-ship in Waterbury VT. We seek out B&J where ever we can. This little shop does the brand justice. My daughter and I like to buy decadent treats there to celebrate small successes, like a great report card. One of the things I like best is that you can get a reliable list if ingredients. I know it sounds crazy, but there are some local businesses similar to this that have provided me inaccurate ingredient lists. I have a family member who has sensitivities, it is very helpful to have a list of ingredients. if you ask they will help you determine exactly what is in everything they prepare. read more

Made a mockery out of "Free Cone Day." I grew up in the town where the Ben and Jerry's factory is. Free Cone Day there is basically a town-wide holiday. Since moving away from home, I always seek out a local shop to celebrate a special day from my childhood. The West Hartford scoop shop disgraces the day. First of all, they don't provide cones. The word cone is in the day, for God's sake! The portion given out in each puny cup couldn't have been more than a half a scoop. And the staff was rude, and corralled the visitors like cattle. Good ice cream but the service stinks. We went at 9;30 on a Wednesday and waited 30minutes with only 5 people ahead of us. This was because only one poor kid was working, the other girl helping him only focused on cleaning up so she could get out on time, she didn't wait on one person and the line was out the door behind us. It was so incredibly rude and I felt bad for the kid. He gave us a discount because he knew it was a ridiculous wait. The manager should hang around and observe this poor customer service. I've been very disappointed with the recent trend of the employees at Ben & Jerry's West Hartford. While the ice cream remains the same, the employees have started to clean the floors as well as put up all the chairs and tables away way before the actual closing time. I think they trying to create an illusion that they are already closed to dissuade customers. I even witnessed the hours sign being removed from the window 40 minutes before their closing time. This behavior makes me NOT want to return to Ben & Jerry's West Hartford. Maybe I'll go to Sweet Frog next time. read more

I went here to get some ice cream one night and I paid $5.36 with cash and change and then I paid the rest with my card on a seven dollar purchase. Checked my card five minutes later and five dollars was taken out. Then, I go to call them and inform them about this incident and see if it can be resolved and the person talking on the phone to me refused to answer any sort of question or statement I made about the transaction.
