My husband and I stopped at this Ben & Jerry's on Thames, which was relatively nearby Trinity Church. It was evening - almost 9pm - and we'd just finished a walking tour with Ghost Tours of Newport. What did we want after traversing the cobble stone streets of Newport and paranormal investigating? Non-Dairy Ice Cream from Ben & Jerry's, that's what. We weren't going to make it in time to get to the one by Bannisters Wharf (the one we'd been frequenting during our trip to the coastal town), so Yelp pointed us to this location luckily. We got in before closing and there were still a bunch of people in line. When we got to the counter, we ordered a green cup to share of a macchiato flavor. So good! I love Ben and Jerry's ice cream. There location on lower Thames is great and staff is friendly. I love how they now have an ice cream truck that goes to local events in Newport area. It is great to see them in the summer on Thursday nights at Newport Film events. This post is to also feature the fabulous job they did at Salute to Summer event open to the public on the Navy Base. When you are at an offsite location it might be more difficult than normal location. This team that was there did a fantastic job with all the crowds. They were so friendly and the ice cream was delicious. I was impressed how great they did offsite since not your normal location. The stand was set up to serve many people and was well positioned even with other food trucks at the location. They handled it like pros. That day it was my birthday and nothing better than celebrating with Ben and Jerry ice cream and fireworks. read more

Everyone knows about Ben and Jerry's. The ice cream is very good. It's one of those places where you get in line to get a cone then go. It's a little slow. It's not the neatest place as there are napkins and drips of ice cream can make things sticky. The volume of people serve daily is impressive. How was the ice cream at Ben and Jerry's? I Can't really tell you.... Why?? Because there's two people working in the store. One of them is not helping customers. I'm not really sure what he's doing. But I'm positive he's not helping customers. The guy who is helping customers, he's taking forever. Like I mean forever. Each person that he gets a cone for by the time he takes the order, makes the cone, gives them the cone and goes onto the next person is 3 minutes. If they have to pay its 4-5minutes. So if there's four people ahead of you in line like there was when I went, you could stay in there for 15 minutes without getting to order. At which point you'd leave, because that level of poor service is unacceptable. read more

It was a beautiful Newport day and after a day at the Kite Festival it was only fitting to let a 5 year old have some ice cream! We stopped into Ben and Jerry's around 5:30 and there was a decent line but plenty of tye-dyed workers ready to take orders and help people get their sweet on! As we were in line my daughter had to go to the bathroom and our server was extremely helpful not only telling us about one place where we could find a bathroom but 3! I have to say the smell of the handmade waffles is amazing in here! So many flavors, not enough belly space! Well work standing in line for this treat. read more

Very good ice cream. I'm surprised the workers were as thin as they were. I'd be a blimp if I worked here sampling these fine ice creams. Hell, I'd be happy if they just paid me in the stuff. I went two days in a row on unusually chilly days (for ice cream). Not very long lines and helpful staff. I eat Ben and Jerrys at home, and although I usually like to try local spots, I have to admit I was happy to get it on a waffle cone. I would like to see Ben and Jerrys new line of "core" ice creams here like peanut butter or jelly (I was told they could do something similar to chocolate or fudge center but it would be more like squeezing syrup in the middle of the ice cream). I have always loved ice cream - so we decided to use Ben & Jerry's catering for our wedding instead of a cake and it was the best decision we made! We were able to choose five flavors and include a full sundae bar with a few 'scoopers' - our guests loved the experience of getting to build their own ice cream bowls and cones. Best of all, Ben & Jerry's made us a custom wedding pint (for free!) that we used in our photos and kept as a keepsake from our big day.
