This shop is in a very inconspicuous Chinese "mall," if you will, on the third floor, no less. It took me an extra 5-10 minutes to ask around and locate the shop (as well as wait for the slow, older elevator), so be sure to give yourself some time to get there AND find this location. The shop is in a very interesting layout, much like a loft apartment from a different decade (I loved it, by the way, it felt very private and cozy in its own way). David's massage style was exactly what I had been seeking but could not find since before the pandemic. It's sad to say, but even the masseuses in Taipei are lackluster in skill compared with David. It's a shame most masseuses and shops care more about providing halfhearted massages and burning out their masseuses with high client turnarounds, no breaks in-between. According to David, the beauty of Liu's is that he can set his own schedule and take whatever clients whenever, so he has the energy to focus on your massage experience and really work out the tired and knotted muscles you've likely accumulated from an equally demanding job. David also shared that he was trained in Japan and practices a specific type of deep tissue massage therapy. It really did show, my legs and feet feel fantastic and well-rested for the first time in ages the day after the 90-minute session with David! As much as I want to keep this place to myself, I have to share what a wonderful and truly authentic Chinese massage experience this has been. I love the sliding scale, as it works for those on a tight budget - but please give more if you can! Booking an appointment online is easy. This location is convenient for me, but there is also the Grand location available with more practitioners and more seating! I'm impressed that only two people run the show here at Laurel location. I believe there are 8 chairs here, of various inclines; you can grab community pillows to get yourself in a comfortable position to stay about 30 minutes up to 1 hour! I always want to maximize and do 1 hour haha. I've come with a lot of forearm/wrist/hand issues, so it's basically a requirement for me to prop my arms up on pillows - otherwise, they fall asleep during the treatment! It's a nice 1 hour out of the day to just listen to podcasts; I usually just fall asleep attempting to listen to podcasts lol. I was a little scared, but didn't even notice it from a comfort perspective. I definitely felt one tingle a nerve as it went in. Walked out of there with some relief. Maybe 50% improvement. Despite that while he was working on me while I'm naked on his table he proceeds to tell me that another client is accusing him of SA. Complete violation of boundaries. I don't feel safe however I'm sharing the facts so that you may make an educated decision for yourself. For me this is a "no" not ever..... I was not there to hold space for him. I was paying him to hold space and treat me. I was hoping to rest. This was not restful. It was traumatizing as I said I have a history of SA. Being quiet and enabling poor behavior in our community is only keeping us small and oppressed.

In desperation, since nothing had helped on previous episodes, I turned to Yelp for an acupuncturist in Alameda. John Nieters' office was the highest recommended. I had one session with Tracy, after which I could move like a human. After a session with Lynn the next day, I could do jumping jacks. (I didn't, but I COULD have.) A month later, it went out again, worse. One session and I was moving like something other than a robot. Now I go monthly and am problem-free. It's not cheap (which they warned me when I called), but if there's a better example of "you get what you pay for," I've never seen it! From what I'd seen of Oriental medicine before, I was very skeptical - I expected things like foot baths to treat bronchitis, and my Western Medicine-sympathetic brain couldn't wrap itself around it. I went only because I was literally desperate. But rather than something that required *any* suspension of disbelief, what I got was not too dissimilar from what I've had at physical therapists' offices, only this was actually effective. Instead of applying patches to my skin through which electro-stim current flows, they used a similar technique through needles - getting the current RIGHT INTO the knot, achieving in minutes what neither P/T or massage had been able to do in months. Now I also see them for tendinitis in my heel, damaged in a work accident. I took P/t for five months with almost no effect and rather than letting worker's comp put me on super-steroids with nasty side-effects, I talked them into letting me go to Tracy. After four sessions, the tenderness is MUCH decreased and I've even had painfree days for the first time in a year, No one's believes more than a convert. Call me highly religious.
