This is a place you need to visit to gather ideas if you're renovating or building. Since there are SO many permanent decisions to make, and online looking doesn't cut it. You have to live with your choices! We went there on a weekday to check out bathroom and kitchen plumbing, sinks and hardware etc. We believed if we saw some physical examples it would help our design process and eliminate some ideas for practical reasons. I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Bender Plumbing Supply House. From the moment we stepped in, the staff's attitude was rude and dismissive. When we approached the receptionist, she didn't even bother to greet us and seemed completely uninterested in helping and annoyed for asking if a designer was available. We walked around the empty store for at least 20 minutes on a Saturday morning, and not one person greeted us or offered any assistance. It felt as though our presence was an inconvenience. I had been warned by a designer friend about the unprofessional attitude here, but I chose to give them a chance. In hindsight, I should have listened. I genuinely think that the family who owns this store should send in undercover shoppers to experience what so many of us have felt and what's been echoed across multiple review sites. Perhaps then, they would understand just how disappointing and alienating their customer service truly is. The company will not get one dollar of a six figure multi-bathroom remodel. I'm the first to give credit and write a positive review when deserved as yo can see. However, when incompetence strikes, I have zero tolerance for it. I wish I had looked at the reviews of Bender before I reached out....wow! The bad reviews are well deserved. Ex Brandon, customer service is horrific. The company does not talk to each other-there is no coordination at all. In my painful 3+ week experience, I 1) Have ordered toilets and been promised delivery dates which then had to be rescheduled because they lied and said the items were in stock... 2) Have received a delivery on a pallet of two units just dropped on doorstep with no call or doorbell ring. 3) Have received a unit that was cracked which led to having to reschedule the installer to another day. Nice quality control! It gets even better! 4) The new replacement unit was delivered to wrong address, it was sent to my brother-in-law's who had initially helped place the order but all along there was only one place units were going to 5) Received numerous calls asking if the broken one had been picked up when I had already sent messages letting them know that it had been...... There are LOTS of places to buy sinks and faucets so please go elsewhere (literally anywhere else!). Horrible customer service from the ladies who pick up the phone to the reps. Super difficult to work with. My contractor recommended because he gets a commission and it could not have been a worse experience to have them involved in my major house renovation. I went to Bender's parts department to see about buying a replacement part for a kitchen faucet, a faucet that I know they sell. I brought the part I wanted to replace and the user manual with me. I don't know if the guy I dealt with was just surly, or stupid and lazy. Probably a combination of those. But he was incredibly dismissive and unhelpful - our exchange barely lasted a minute, that's how clear it was that he wasn't even going to pretend to try to help me. My wife and I went here in hopes of finding items to remodel a condo we just purchased. We have 2.5 bathrooms which needed work. This shopping experience was very unsatisfying. Even the receptionist barely glanced our way! There were more than enough employees working, some with current customers and others just standing around gossiping amongst each other. The worst part is that they don't even acknowledge you or ask if you need assistance. My wife and I will take our money elsewhere. Received wrong color/style plumbing parts for the entire bathroom from what we personally selected after spending almost $9000 in this store. Very long delay (twice longer than the estimated arrival) with no updates or communication from store at all. Sales representative wouldn't pick up or return customers' phone calls. This store even forgot to order more than five items from the list that we originally picked in store. Biggest nightmare for any remodeling work. Never come back!!! read more

After multiple complaints, they managed to get the parts required in a timely fashion, which also required them to order from competitors. They were also very responsive this time. I still will be wary of ordering anything from this company, as plumbers have also said their service is quite bad. i was in a bad situation with a sick child who requires steam some days to breathe, when covid-19 hit no one would speak to me in person let alone help! Benders not only went out of the way to find me a unit, but they helped find a plumber and after all that an employee called to make sure we made out ok. In a time when it seems like no-one cares about the little people it truly restored my faith in humanity!!!! so to see people speaking bad about the company hear hurts my heart. My husband and I visited their Norwalk store on July 20th. Beautiful store, appallingly bad customer service. If zero was a rating option they would receive it. Unwelcoming environment, starting at their "reception desk". The three women working behind the desk ignored us and continued their conversation with one woman actually turning her back as we walked past them. We wandered through the store and after about 10 minutes one of the ladies tracked us down. Without any introduction or interest in what we needed she told us all salespersons were busy and we needed to make an appointment. Maybe that's true. Their website indicated that there was"in store" shopping. Did I mention we were casually dressed? As an older couple it felt as if we were "profiled" by the front desk staff as not serious buyers or affluent-enough customers. We left the store without making an appointment and won't be returning. By the way, I've read reviews of Bender online it appears that this type of rude behavior is not an anomaly. read more

I purchased a new kitchen faucet on Sept. 7, which had to be ordered. Our salesperson, Jessica, told us that it would take about 2 weeks, but that she would call us on the 9th to give us a better idea of when to expect delivery. We never received a call on the 9th....or on the 10th, 11th or 12th. On the 13th, my wife called them. She was told that Jessica was with a customer and that she would have to call us back. My wife asked if anyone else could help with this and she was told "no." By the 17, we still had not heard from Jessica, so my wife called again. Again, Jessica was with a customer, and so we were assured, she would call us back. My wife called again on the 20th- same story. I called on the 21 and asked for a manager. I was told that managers didn't work on Saturday. I called again today (the 23rd) and was told that all the managers were in a meeting. Based on the other reviews on this site, this seems to be their standard answer when someone asks for a manager. I was then connected to Max Bender's voicemail. We'll see if he ever calls me back. We are planning on renovating our master bath in the spring and had planned on buying everything at Bender's. We will now be doing our shopping on line. Don't waste your time going to Bender's. As you can see from most of the reviews, their customer service is horrible. Here's a follow up to my original review. I finally did get a call back from a manager today (9/23) and was told that my order HAD NEVER BEEN PLACED WITH THE MANUFACTURER! Needless to say, I told them not to bother placing it and I'm going in tomorrow for my refund. I will buy the product on line. read more

Called in to get the pricing on 6" PVC Sch 40. The guy at the counter told me that this is a very complex question and there is no way for him to give me that price and hung up. Called in again spoke to another guy, he managed to give me the price per linear foot, but quickly told me that they don't have those in stock and before I was able to ask about the lead times and quantities he hung up as well. Called in again and asked for the general manager, but was told that he's busy in meetings for the foreseeable future and his contact information cannot be disclosed. Very unpleasant to deal with. Unless you're looking to spike your adrenaline for a day, look somewhere else. read more

I had tough experience with sales on 2k faucet purchase. It turned me off completely and also had the wrong parts shipped by the manufacturer. My invoice was also wrong. Both the woman and the man at the front desk lifted their heads looked at us and proceeded to pretend to be busy. As we walked through the showroom the staff continued to ignore our presence. At no point during our visit were we acknowledged. As we left the building the woman continued to keep her head down pretending to be busy. Other customers were helped while we were ignored. The greeting at the door is wonderful and goes down hill from there. Was interested in kitchen sinks for a re-model 8 months ago. Every one was too busy for simple questions and was promised a call. Never happened. Visited again on 6/14/2019 for a master bath remodel with a shopping list in hand. This time I requested some one responsible to call me since again with at least 6 business cards on the desk all were too busy again for my walk in attention. This time I received an e-mail saying they had my list that I left and would contact me on Monday. Never happened. These people have no respect for your time so don't waste it trying to give them business. Between all the fixtures and steam shower they lost my 26,000 and change. read more

Went here for bathroom remodel and liked their stuff. Ordered everything here and paid in full Saleswoman called later to say that faucet was not available. She promised a refund immediately but took four tel calls and over a month before they actually put thru refund... Worst however was when they delivered the vanity which was wrong color and wrong size. They took another six weeks to get the right vanity. Then they tried to charge us an up charge for having to re-do the vanity. Never again... read more

What started out as a pleasant experience turned into a massive waste of time and money. I paid for my items in full, which was a massive mistake. I was sold an item that has already been discontinued by the manufacturer, despite still being displayed on their shelves. When I asked for the valves (to get started on the rough in), I was given a handful of pieces instead of a properly packaged box. The mixing valve was missing several key components, it took multiple trips back to bender to figure this out. The valve itself was 'new' and had not been seen by a third generation plumber with 30 years personal experience..so when it came missing instructions and pieces, everyone was confused. I brought this to the attention of Lorraine, who was initially very nice. She failed to acknowledge two emails regarding this situation, let alone offer any kind of apology/compensation. I would use this company to see fixtures in person and then buy online. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME..this company cost me time and money on top of my fixtures, unacceptable. As an update to this review, I did receive a meager apology for my 'inconvenience'. However, that's just not good enough and my review still stands. If you want to get a real world look at a product, then go check out the showroom. If you want to actually buy something...buy online! The best deals are online, never at brick and mortar stores! I'd avoid this place at all costs, your money and time will be better spent and appreciated if you brought online. Seriously, you'd get better customer service from a robot. read more

It was suggested to us, from our contractor, that we have a look at Bender for our three bathroom remodels. We had not read any of the reviews when we first paid them a visit. Now we HAVE seen those reviews and while each seems to be valid for that customer experience, we can only provide a review based on our experience alone. We found the salespeople to be extremely knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. Amy, in the bathroom fixture area (faucets, showerheads etc.) and both Jessica and Jennifer in the tile section were terrific. Diana, at the front desk was also lovely, offering a friendly greeting and a cold, bottled water. We were impressed that every invoice was not only handed to us but followed up with an email almost before we arrived home. We have been at Benders four times now, taking home samples, asking additional questions and making decisions about our remodels. Without fail they have continued to provide terrific service and remain most willing to walk us down the path to insure a wonderful result. We are so happy we did not allow negative remarks to sway our thinking. For us, Benders is a 10 plus and we will gladly use their services again as we continue to remodel our home. read more

My son is redoing a bathroom and we visited BENDER to look at tile for the shower niche - just to see what was available. The woman sitting at the desk in the tile dept was borderline rude and could have cared less about helping us. She asked us if the rest of the tile was done around the niche and when my son said yes- she said well I don't know who is doing your tile but the niche should have been done first and it's too late to even order any because we don't have it in stock and NO we don't have samples! Then she went further to prove to us that we knew nothing and she knew so much more than we did. "What are you putting around edges". Marble we replied. She shook her head and said well I hope that your tiler knows what he is doing because that has to be sealed! We politely thanked her and walked away and neither of us will EVER go back to BENDER! This is the second time that I was treated horribly in that store. They may get away with that behavior with contractors that now have nowhere else to go but not with people used to the kind And helpful staff of Klaffs! RIP Klaffs. Looking for lighting, I went to Bender after hearing radio advertisements and found that they also sell kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Helpfulness: I spent about 20 minutes roaming both floors of the store, and only one salesperson engaged with me; she let me know that she was unable to help with lighting. DO NOT use Bender for cabinetry. I know this is long but please read. I ordered $11,000 in cabinetry for a laundry room and 2 bath vanities. I worked with Kyong in the New Haven showroom who made mistakes on every order and has delayed my contruction project by months. When I complained to David Bender, the owner, he got angry and emailed me on Thanksgiving morning telling me and I quote, "Dealing with me was abhorant." Kyong incorrectly measured for cabinets in my laundry room which luckily was caught my my contractor. Upon delivery, one cabinet was not part of my order. Rather than contact the company and request a rush replacement, which she could have done, she reordered and I waited 4 weeks only to find she reordered the wrong cabinet. Again, she did not request a rush order and with holiday closing I had to wait 6 weeks for the correct cabinet so I complained to David Bender who got angry. I had two bath vanities waiting in Bender's warehouse and asked for delivery so I could inspect before my contractor was ready to install. I had used a credit card for all purchases including thousands more on the plumbing side. Bender refused delivery unless I paid cash or bank check. I took this to the CT state Attorney General's Office. It took 2 months but I finally won, Bender took my credit card, delivered the vanities only to discover Kyong had ordered the wrong cabinets for one bath and they were sent back. I kept the vanity for the other bath only to find out when the contractor went to install that Kyong had ordered the wrong filler pieces. I've had to work directly with the cabinet company and their rep and replacemnts are being shipped to another merchant since Bender will offer no support or communicate with me. It has been 7 months since the first incorrect cabinet piece arrived--a major delay to my renovation project that could have been greatly simplified had Kyong not made so many careless errors and had Bender provided any customer service. Again, I am warning you, do not use Kyong at Bender in New Haven for any cabinetry, no matter how simple. She is careless, makes too many mistakes, does not assume responsibility for her errors, and the most disturbing part is that her manager and David Bender, owner, back her up rather that provide any customer service and timely resolutions to her errors. read more

I found Bender on my own after trying to find a good supplier for a Manhattan project. First off, these are reputable people who give the standard, excellent discount to everyone...no funny business! as opposed to what I experienced in NY. Second, a fantastic showroom with great options....the tile/marble showroom alone is worth the trip. I worked in Norwalk with Alex for plumbing and Julia for tiles....wonderful professionals who always went the distance for great customer service. And deliveries by Steve through their warehouse was also professional and caring. I scrolled through some earlier comments....and what is a problem for some ( no service in the showroom) for me was heaven just to stroll around many times in their showroom over weeks to learn, take notes and photos and get used to the product with no one bugging or pressuring me. There was plenty of advice and guidance when I needed it. I HATE renovations....but Bender made it as easy as possible. read more

Also like other reviewers experienced, let the buyer beware when the inevitable return has to take place. Even though they have a showroom full of lights, these are NON STOCK items. When we found we had to change design in a bathroom remodel, they told us that the light was a SPECIAL ORDER and they did not have to take them back. We bought all of the bathroom accessories and fixtures so this fact was not obvious. I spent $1000s there. In spite of having a lighting showroom, displays and sales people, they do not stock these products. After arguing, they begrudgingly took back the light, withheld 25% restocking fee and are making me wait 4 weeks to get a credit on the one lousy $200 item I had to return.
