I approached the counter with a simple question about a screen door, but before I could finish, the gal said there was no one there to help me today and asked for my name and phone number. There were 3 other sales guys behind the counter finishing with their customers and I asked if I could wait on one of them. She yells out "Steve" (not real name) from across the room and he yells back "NO!" . Again, no one ever knew why I came in. That's about the rudest I've ever been treated. read more

We ordered a whole new line of kitchen cabinets. All was friendly until the cabinets arrived. The measurements were wrong so we had to change our new door size. Shelves were missing but Rings End claimed they were delivered. The oven cabinet size was wrong but they insist we should have caught the mistake earlier. We trusted our Ring's End designer and saw her fill out the design form over the weeks we met with her. We keep asking to see the design/order to determine the facts. They literally ignore our repeated requests. Instead, we were told to take some of the responsibility and pay half of the replacement cost, plus all the installation cost. My advice: if using Ring's End, ask for the design/order form before you place the order. Ask for the itemization, not just the item numbers, of all the cabinets ordered. We have been trying to resolve since June and have been getting the run around. Our kitchen is on hold. Countertops cannot be installed till the right cabinet is in. Ring's End is certainly not in a rush.. Forget about Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's. read more

Several weeks ago, my mom needed a new door handle for one of her French doors. She needed only the handle, not both sides and with the lock. Everywhere we looked, she had to buy the whole thing for over $200. However, when I walked into Rings End, I was approached by Sam who was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. After searching his own back room and not finding anything, he made some calls. I had to run, so I left him my number and he called me back at 8 a.m. the next morning to let me know he had found just the handle for $40! He then called me a couple of days later when it had arrived and I went into the store to pick it up. Sam went above and beyond for a $40 purchase when I know the store makes its real money from the local general contractors. Thank you Sam! read more

Top of line for general contractor supplies and if you can get past the attitude that you're only special if you're a contractor and develop a relationship with the sales staff you'll be treated well. This isn't the homeowner store but it's the Tiffany's of hardware and lumber. read more

The Color and Design consultant in the paint department, Jenifer LaVoie, helped me select the perfect paint color for my rooms. Just bring swatches, magazine pics, or vague ideas of what you want - she is amazing! It is a unique service that Ring's End has offered for years. The kitchen department is also tremendous. They will come out to your house to help you design your project. They designed my kitchen over 10 years ago - and now my master bathroom this year. I purchased all my cabinetry there, great quality. First of all, I stood at the counter for about 5 minutes while the "employee's" were having a big conversation about lunch or where they were going for an event. Then the only woman who appeared to work there said, I think this lady needs help. One of the guys who was standing around chatting and not working came over and when I said what I needed (I spent $3,000 by the way) came over and immediately passed me off to someone else (who was fine). This was my second visit and my first visit was much the same. I went there because it was more convenient then Home Depot but from a service persecutive they aren't much better. Sadly Rings end is a necessary evil in lower Fairfield country for homeowners. There is no customer service culture that I have seen shopping here for 25+ years and the prices are premium for many brands that are available online. There are however some longstanding employees in hardware and paint that are knowledgeable and helpful in Darien. The Wilton branch should be closed in my opinion as there is next to no stock and most of the staff seem checked out or bored. The Wilton paint desk is awful and has consistently mixed off colors of Benjamin Moore that have to be returned. Contractors that I have worked with have mixed feelings about the company but realize it's one of the few places in the area to carry many of the brands they need. Rapid expansion has come at the expense of technology infrastructure and knowledgeable sales staff. The website is useless and employees still rely on tear sheets and books from manufacturers. Delivery cut offs are ridiculous and simply delay project completion. My hope is that the new lowes in Norwalk will carry many of the same brands at reasonable prices and get rings end to close down some of the dead wood locations that add no value. Not sure who owns this chain but so far as I can tell living in this area for many years, I don't believe they give anything back to any of the communities in which they operate. It all seems a bit shady. read more

Ring's End Wilton really is as good as it gets. After a couple of months of back and forth with 4 companies I decided to purchase several windows from Ring's End and am happy I did. I ended up choosing new construction Marvin Integrity and utilizing Ring's End installation services, all in all at a very reasonable price considering the quality of the product, the professionalism, and the workmanship. Everyone involved in the project - from the installation manager, Bill, to the carpenter, Jessie - was extremely efficient. Every little hiccup - and there's always a hiccup with a big project (like snowstorm delays) - was taken care of promptly and professionally. The installation service manager, when it looked like there would be a delay, gave me his word the project would be completed on time. And it was! (A company that keeps its word!) The workers were trustworthy, neat and pleasant, and the lead carpenter did incredibly beautiful work - a must when it comes to window moulding & sills. The project manager was also very helpful. When one screen was missing a piece, they didn't try to make it work on the spot. The installation manager picked up the piece and the project manager promised to drive by and install it himself - all within a day. It's nice not to have to worry on a major renovation. My advice: When it comes to installing windows, there's only one choice: Ring's End! read more
