This place is tucked away in a forgotten part of town. Family owned Mexican restaurant where the owner greets everyone that comes in. Went in for the buffet during lunch and had the best Damn cheese enchiladas. The other things, (stuffed bell pepper, refried and charro beans, rice) were fantastic but the star of the show. The service was good, and there were several visits to our table just to check in. I couldn't imagine trying to maintain a small family owned business for 50 years. If I could give this place 1000 stars I would! A local mom & pop restaurant in a small town...a true gem! I've been going here for years (since I was a little girl) and it's always been great! I am a confessed Mexican Food connoisseur. If you do not like chain restaurants ( I do not) then this is the place for you. The enchiladas are the BEST. The complementary beans ala chara soup are the tastiest. I rate the salsa and chips as 10/10. Every item on my plate was fresh. The ambiance supports the old school family operation that chain restaurants don't possess. Service is always impeccable. I am surrounded by Mexican restaurants and pass at least 4 on my way here. Let me Begin by saying that this is definitely old school Mexican restaurant from the building to the decor you feel like you've walked into a little city of Mexico. The service was fabulous and you get complimentary pinto beans which was very tasteful and delicious. The chips were nice and crispy and the salsa had a fabulous flavor. For an appetizer we ordered the nacho loco which had a fabulous flavor with queso on top of the nachos which is a great idea instead of grated cheese. We ordered the beef enchiladas which were nice and hot and had a very nice homemade flavor to them and a Mexican salad. The Mexican salad was missing some ingredients carrots broccoli cilantro onions and bell pepper I did ask for fajita meat which had a good flavor but was a little tough. Basically what I got was a taco salad with lettuce cheese and jalapenos. Love the large cups of ice water in this Texas heat. read more

My husband drove down to the area to respond to the hurricane relief efforts and decided to grab lunch. He was very excited when he found this authentic Mexican food joint. He said these tacos were excellent and the place was very clean and the person behind the counter was very friendly!! I also would like to add that because he was in his military uniform to help aid in the hurricane relief, they paid for his meal which was very much appreciated!!! read more

Good hole in the wall mexican restaurant across the street from the police station. Lunch buffet ($8.75) had beef tacos, cheese enchiladas, carne guisada and stuffed bell peppers, rice and beans. A side table has cold items: pico, sour cream, cheese and pickled jalapenos. The best item was easily the guisada. This is a pretty good deal since menu items range between nearly $6 and 10, for lunch. They also have fajita and enchilada buffet on Thursday nights. The interior of the restaurant has a dark cave like feel, with decent atmosphere and reminds me of Terraza in the older part of Texas City. read more

Food was ok. The queso was salty. The beans weren't seasoned enough ( horrible ) the rice was ehh. I wouldn't go back.

The guy taking the orders is nice enough. The food is not bad, it is just not memorable really. I ate there twice. Both times I suffered a bit of a stomach ache the next day. Not sure what ingredient may have caused that, but have decided it not a place I will go back to. read more

Mexican food is my favorite and Benitos does not disappoint! Out of the way but worth finding. Always good food.

Went here expecting a good family owned hole in the wall type place. Was very disappointed. The "queso" is nothing but melted Velveeta. The cheese enchiladas tasted a bit off, like they were made with ingredients that were a bit past their "best by" date. I don't recommend it. Taco Bell is better than this place and cheaper too. read more

Working in the area and checked yelp for a good local place to eat. Found Benito's and what a good find. At first a little hesitant as there weren't many patrons during the time we were there, but once inside the gentleman that waited on us was super nice & quick. He told us that the restaurant had been there since 1968, family owned, and that everything was made fresh..no canned or frozen. I must say it was the best Mexican food that I've had in quite sometime. Delicious, super fresh, not greasy.
