I haven't ate here in a long time because I wasn't impressed last time. But I decided I want Mexican food so I stopped. The food is extremely bland. No seasoning. I got the chips and queso with ground beef and as I was stirring the ground beef and it smelt like dog food. It tasted OK if you don't like any seasoning. My whole entire meal was covered in jalapeños, so it would have flavor. Needless to say I ate two bowls of jalapeños just to get through my meal. I had beef enchiladas with beans and rice, chips and queso with ground beef, and a unsweet iced tea $29 ridiculous I will never eat here again! Mexican food is the cheapest ingredients in America and when you refuse to seasoning, it makes it even cheaper. We have a family ritual of going to a certain Mexican food place to eat when we have family in town. It was going to be over an hour wait so we informed about this place and we met the family over there. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table but it was worth the wait. Can't remember what I had because we have been there many times since he family gathering and I have tried a few of their dishes and they have not disappointed. The hot sauce is served warm and got a little kick to it that is enjoyable. The service was quick and prompt and the staff was really friendly. Not a bad place for Tex-Mex, but... I dined here for the first time on a Saturday morning -- toward the end of the weekend breakfast rush. I was seated immediately and my server was on the spot. The dining room is dimly lit and very comfortable, but I came for the food. I judge Tex-Mex joints first and foremost on the house salsa. It's decent here but damn if they don't serve it up warm! I asked the server if they had a cold version of it to no avail. If you like it warm, you might fall in love at first bite. It's smooth and sticks the chip nicely. There's some bite to it and a hint of cilantro. I had the El Puente (2 tamales, hard taco, rice and beans). The taco was light and crisp with cool lettuce. The meat was barely seasoned, which made the addition of salsa almost necessary. -- Tamales are larger than I usually prefer, but they are nothing short of delicious with moist shredded meat and toothsome masa. Still, I wish they had been slightly more seasoned. Rice here is pretty much run of the mill, but good. Beans are excellent. I'll be back here, because the quality of the food and service is up there. I hope they'll consider a cold salsa offering though. read more

This is one of our favorites places to go. The Margaritas are just right (I get Grand Gold). The price and flavor are perfect! They have a mix of Mexican profile dishes from TexMex to traditional Mexican. We have enjoyed several dishes - too many to count and enjoyed them all. The food is above average but I am giving this five stars because of how outstanding the service is. Every single time they take such good care of the guest. We have been to Mr. Sombrero a few times now. we have had a wide range of menu items and have not been disappointed. The food is excellent and the wait staff is very good as well. They have two different types of queso; yellow cheese or white cheese. They also have several different combo items that would be your typical tex-mex combo dinners. My personal favorite is the Pollo Esperanza. They also have multiple choices for tacos and enchiladas. They also have a full bar but I haven't ordered from it and therefore can't give you a review. We have been going here 2 or 3 times a week for over 5 years. Even during Covid we picked up food. Today we tried using a coupon bought from a local high school football team that gave us a free small queso with a $20 purchase. No restrictions of food only and no alcohol in the purchase total. It was only 2 people at the table and we had 3 margaritas and shared a $16 plate with add on $1 tortillas. Upon paying we were told the coupon was no good because it didn't total $20 in food. We spoke to the lady from up front (I assume is front manager) who didn't even care to fix the issue. We paid the full bill and will never go back to a restaurant we have loved for years. I know they don't care about our business but to lose customers over $6.95 seems ridiculous. Guess their business is so good that customer service is a thing of the past. read more

Will Never Spend anther penny here. Tonight, my wife and daughter went to our "usual" Mexican spot for dinner. Your Restaurant (Mr. S) has been our go to since we moved here 4.5 year ago. When this dumb Covid thing started, we made sure to order from you guys very often whether pick up or delivery and ALWAYS tipped like eating in service. Tonight, I walked in, saw my wife and daughter at a table (they got there first) and went to sit with them (LIKE NORMAL). The manager (I assume) came to the table and said he was refusing to serve me because I didn't have a mask and sat myself. Well, my wife and daughter had forgotten their mask and were offered them one. I had one in the car, I had just forgotten it. Here is the deal. I am posting on the Nextdoor App, Twitter, and anywhere else I can think of. When my wife leaves there in a bit, that will be the last penny they ever see from me. I have to say, Mr. Sombrero's couldn't be beat when it came to food and AMAZING service. That being said, I'm not sure what has changed, but lately my favorites don't taste quite the same and after SEVERAL visits, neither is the service. There are still a TON of employees running around, but no one seems to be paying attention to who is helping someone...or not. My husband and I have sat for 20-30 minutes without getting our beers or order taken. No checks after food came and we had to ask anyone walking by to get our check. I came here with my dad and my sister yesterday. I would give the service 5 stars. The white queso was very delicious too. I ordered horchata and it was a little too cinnamony. (I know that's not a word). Maybe I'm spoiled with the variety of Mexican food We have here, but hey; it's Texas. There's a lot of really good Mexican food. The entrees we ordered were okay; I got the stuffed avocado. It came with pico that was mostly tomatoes, refried beans and rice were pretty bland. But the meat was good. I've been coming here for 3.5 years & just realized that I never wrote a review! This is the first location of this family owned restaurant! It's owned by 4 brothers that work really hard, take pride in their hard work & make sure everyone feels like family. This location needed a good mexican restaurant because we all know that Luna's sucks. They make the flour tortillas fresh in house every morning,you can taste the love! You can always order the corn ones but those are store bought. The decor is beautiful,new & airy. The staff is awesome & attentive,I feel like I'm visiting friends when I'm here. It does get loud when it's busy but if you go on the off hours, it's quiet & you can actually hear the music playing in the background. They ususally have sports playing on the TV screens if you don't want to miss your game. The only downside is that it gets really busy & the wait can be up to 30 minutes after 5:00pm on most day. Happy hour margaritas are only 3.75$ a piece! They have a different drink special every few days too so you can try a blood orange or watermelon margarita. Every meal starts off with complimentary chips & a size of warm salsa, it's really delightful. The chips taste much better & look different at the first location. I'm a huge fan of the chile con queso blanco,it's authentic queso cheese with serrano peppers served with jalapeno chili slices of course. I'm never going back to regular orange queso! The small is enough for 2 people when you get a meal. The other awesome optiond to go with your chips is a side of the gaucamole salad, it's basically mashed up fresh avocado with garlic powder & lemon juice. Simple to the point & makes you wish there was more! Let me start by saying that I usually get chicken as my meat, I always upgrade to the Al Carbon/chicken fajita meat option, I just loved the taste & texture of it better than regular chicken but that's just personal preference! My 2 favorite dishes are the enchiladas al carbon & tacos bonitos. It's just feel good food for me. The fajitas are perfectly cooked & mouthwatering, I'm not sure if there's anything worse than overcooked meat but they are always great here.The stuffed avocadoes are also good option. Here are a few other things that I've enjoyed, the Quesadilla is surprisingly delicious. It's the perfect combination of cheese,meat & fresh flour tortillas. My boyfriend loves the carnitas & tamales. Whenever he's just tagging along with me & not very hungry, he gets the mexican guacamole! I've heard amazing reviews on the tortas so I'll have to try them at some point. They serve breakfast burritos on the weekend until noon, I haven't been there to try it yet. Not sure if they still serve dessert or not but they were good! The prices are very decent & I'm happy with the portion sizes. Take out is really easy & you can call it in & pick it up in 15-20 minutes. Great food is one thing but both of these restaurants have soul & that's something you can't put a price tag on! read more
