We came here for brunch during our visit to galveston and really enjoyed it!! The food took a bit to come out but it was to be expected since it was a busy weekend, but they gave us chips and salsa during the wait which were yummy!! I believe they serve breakfast all day and after 11am they also offer their lunch/dinner menu. We ordered the chorizo omelette, the chilaquiles with the carne adobada, and the churro pancakes!! My favorite was the churro pancake -- it was saauur good!! Its chewy and surprisingly not as sweet as i expected it to be, and we ordered it as a pancake plate so it came with 3 bfast sausages on the side. I also really liked the carne adobada chilaquiles!! We also got the cafe de olla for coffee and it was a bit sweet but good with some cream! c: I would def come back for those pancakes whenever we come back to galveston!

This was a fantastic find on 61st Street near our hotel. We had to walk past the old cemetery and through a neighborhood to get here, but it was so worth it. Scarlet was great in getting us acquainted with this hidden gem. Everything is homemade and tasty. The décor and ambiance inside is very nice. There were Christmas decorations as well. She brought us complimentary chips and 2 kinds of salsa (green and red). We don't usually eat all the chips, but these were exceptionally good as well as the dipping sauces. The chips were served fresh & warm. The star of the show were the quesabirrias and enchiladas. These were so very tasty. My husband selected 1 chicken and 2 beef enchiladas. There's a choice of 3 fillings. He absolutely loved it. He even commented about how good the rice and refried beans were as side items. The meat was tender & delicious. It didn't taste like anything out of a crock pot. Thank goodness for that! We could taste every ingredient. The quesabirrias were just as delicious, and very large portions for the price. It comes with consomé and this delicious & spicy creamy avocado sauce. All the flavors blended well together. The birria meat was so delicious. I could go on and on about this meal, but the pictures speak volumes about our experience here. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for more authentic Mexican flavors without being at a "hole in the wall" restaurant, or a food truck. It's in a strip mall, but don't let that deter you. It's apparently popular with the locals and has recently expanded. I just wish we would have returned a second time. The menu has so many items that look unique. Hopefully we'll get to try more of it in the future.

November 14, 2025 I'm back!! More migas please! And a chicken tinga tostado's... YUM --------- November 13, 2025 It's been open 3 years and I finally tried this place. I did a Door Dash order for, churro's, migas, chips/salsa, cheese flameado, and beef street tacos Everything was FANTASTIC! This is my NEW FAV

Look at the size of these home made chips! The flour tortillas are also made in resturant. FRESH!

The food was very good and served at the right temperature and timing. Not a very long wait based on the changes made to the order. Small and quite surrounding with a flavor of old Mexico. It looks like lots of family and friend vibes with soft Mexican music in the background. The mole was really good.

Happy to see that cafe canela has expanded! There is way more space now so no more waiting to be seated during peak times! As always, the food is excellent.

Let me start by saying my family and I eat A LOT of Mexican food of all types. This is hands down one of those places I will tell everyone about when they ask how our vacation was! The salsa was warm and had the best flavor. The chips were fresh-made and perfect. When I asked about the mole enchiladas, they brought me some sauce to sample. (It was also delicious) The beans are wonderful and made with actual lard. The tortillas are some of the best I've had. Fresh and chewy. Just perfect! The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming. The SALSAS though, let's talked about the salsas. The green and red were both incredible (my 1yo son loved them) but when we got the spicy adobo, we both ate it with every bite from then on. The service was exceptional and we had anything we needed. Any time I am in Galveston we will be eating here. Open one in Fort Worth!!!

If you like food, you should eat here. The end. Okay, more info: Breakfast was TOP notch. Make sure you get both red and green sauces to level up your meal. For under $8, the surprise burrito was an unbelievable value. My wife ordered the Chiliquilas with abudoba or some version of spelling which is less butchered. I finished my burrito and wanted to eat what she couldn't. Filling and absolutely delicious. If this vanilla family from Michigan is giving 8 collective thumbs up, (5 &7 yo), then trust that you will find something you like. It's a HUGE menu, too. The staff was so kind. I legit wanted to hug our waitress, but instead just asked that she hugged the kitchen staff.

The aforementioned CBD shop is gone and the space had been absorbed into a larger and lovelier Cafe Canella, This has become a real go-to gor us when we are on the islsnd. The breakfast menu is extensive and delicios, the service prompt, the food is terrific and even the plating is beautiful, even in the midst of a Saturdsy morning.

    So good!

Cafe Canela is crowded for a reason. Service is great and the food is amazing. The plantains are so yummy and a must. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

    Breakfast burrito with everything.

I got the tacos al pastor, which were very good. The borracho beans that accompanied the plate were the best I have ever tasted.

This one of the few restaurants that is open past 9pm during the weeknight. We original went to another restaurant but it was a poop show so we left. The service was not bad and not great either; just average. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it had a ton of meat. It was really quite good. (Minus the tomatoes and guacamole (it had tomatoes) I ordered sliced avocado and when it was brought out it was rotten. The waitress was nice and took it off our bill. My family said the salsas was good and so was the queso dip. Everyone seemed enjoyed their dinner. We would come here again.

Chips and salsa hit the spot, and the food is good, just not particularly distinctive. The menu is huge, with the kind of "big operation" feel where dishes are clearly designed to move quickly rather than showcase anything unique. Parking is the same story it's always been: not nearly enough of it. Most people end up in the Academy lot next door, and it's been the unofficial overflow for as long as anyone can remember. Hopefully Academy keeps looking the other way. A perfectly acceptable Seawall stop, but nothing that pushes it past a solid three stars.

Why 5 stars? Because this might be my new favorite restaurant in Galveston…read more --- --- --- We had been in Galveston for a couple of days, and while we had some solid meals, we were feeling kind of gross and overstuffed. Fish Company Taco proved to be like finding water in the desert. A lot of Galveston eateries are very similar, in that there's an ample amount of fried seafood on the menu, which is not exactly what you're looking for when you're in the bloated, but wanting to eat *something* state that we were in. My thought was: fish tacos are relatively light and we can walk there from our hotel - how do you beat that? What I didn't realize is that this place probably belongs more in the Heights than Galveston. And I mean that in a good way. The menu is very hipster-coded. And the food matches with hipster quality. It's hard to say what my favorite item even was. The one thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the fish dip - it was just okay. Everything else ranged from good to great. We tried... The burger: FYI, it's more like a double stacked slider than a burger, but delicious. 3 Tacos: Dirty South, Empire and Korean Flavors. I really liked the empire and the korean flavors, but thought the dirty south had a little too much going on with the pimento cheese and chips. Sticky Shrimp: I don't even know how to describe this, but it was delicious. I thought it as more like bang bang shrimp, but it was more fried that I expected. But not hardcore fried - they almost had the airy texture of fried pork skins, but were much tastier. Chili marinated Cucumbers and corn ribs: Simple, refreshing and addicting. But I liked the cucumbers a bit more. They also had some fresh juices and we enjoyed both the mango and the coconut lime concoctions. An easy 5-stars for me and a place I will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Galveston.

The Vietnamese taco stood out the most for me, while the Baja and Korean flavors were just okay, not really my favorites. Overall, it's a chill spot with a relaxed vibe and not too crowded. I'd recommend coming during happy hour to get the best experience.
