I have found that when I am in Texas, I need Nachos. I guess I like Tex-Mex, so my server told me. Walking around The Strand and feeling hungry these Nachos were a great fix. The decor was fun. The service was on point from the start--even with a big group (which can sometimes feel like you just signed the staff up for a group project they didn't ask for ), they were super gracious and handled everything like pros. Food? So good. Tons of breakfast AND lunch options, so everyone was happy (no small feat with a group, let's be real). And the real MVP... the coffee. It just kept coming. Quick service considering there was 7 of us on a Sunday afternoon! We were seated immediately and served chips, green sauce and red sauce and refried beans. I always judge restaurants by their chips and salsas and this one definitely passed! I ordered the beef fajita enchiladas with charro beans and rice and the cheese and gravy on top were TexMex comfort! This is a great spot to people watch on the strand and enjoy a spicy margarita! I stumbled across this restaurant while walking on the strand and it had a nice vibe and ambiance! I was with my family at the time who was in the mood for mexican food while I wanted a seafood dish so i opted for the Mahi Mahi Islander. Presentation wise, this meal was exactly how I pictured it would look and I was visibly pleased. This was my first time trying Mahi Mahi so I didn't know what to expect but the fish was not my favorite. It wasn't a super fishy fish but it did have a mild flavor that was confusing to put in words and the fish was super firm. I don't know if Mahi Mahi is always firm or if my fish was overcooked. The parmesan crust and flavor was tasty but was more on the soggy side than crispy as I was hoping and I tasted it immediately before it got the chance to sweat in the box. As for the Garlic Mashed Potatoes, they were good, no complaints. Surprisingly my favorite thing in this meal was the grilled vegetables!!!! They were delicious, flavorful and seasoned. I don't even eat zucchini and squash but it was flavored so good I couldn't stop. It also had green beans, red bell pepper, and purple and white onions. If i'd go back for anything here it'd for sure be those vegetables. I forgot to add my meal came with some type of lemon butter sauce which I really enjoyed pouring over my food. It had a great flavor. Since I was really feeling seafood this day I also got some grilled shrimp to try and they were just okay. They didn't taste like gulf shrimp. I did get some chips and salsa in my order and the chips were fresh and the salsa had a good flavor but was too watery. Overall, it's a possibility I would return only because this is a mexican restaurant and I didn't get any mexican food so i'd try it out! Blackened fish tacos- got it alacarte and it was yummyyy nice crunchy and flavorful not overly fishy either if you know what I mean Fried chicken taco- also got it ala carte. I really wish I would've not eaten before I got here. I didn't try food so I was already full, but the drinks were amazing. I tried three different things just to kinda get a taste for their style. I highly recommend the Sexy Mexican. I like amaretto, which is what drew me to this one, and it's like the perfect match and everything is subtle so it's not an overly sweet flavor. Of course I put the heat on the rim so that kind of changes it a bit. Then I had The Boss Top Shelf & Paloma Suprema. Both were good, but in the end I ended up going back to the sexy Mexican. My bartender was amazing. I can't remember if her name was Sherry or Shelly ( I'm sorry), but she was great!! She mentioned the tacos were amazing. Located in what I'd consider the Downtown Galveston area is the Tequila Rock Kitchen & Bar. We planned to go to Shark Shack but it only had outside seating on that hot and humid day. They said their "sister" restaurant was open to indoor seating and it was just steps away. It was open, clean, and the staff was attentive and super friendly. We ordered fish Alfredo's lemon chicken, burger and fries, and brisket tacos with rice - all delicious. I'd recommend this place when it the area and I'll definitely be back to enjoy the great food but also to be greeted by a great staff. read more

Management Take Note: 1) Mexican restaurants offer complimentary chips and salsa. The nominal but irritating token charge of $5.00 for chips and salsa should be absorbed into the food cost. Everyone was very welcoming right when we walked in. Their happy hour deals are great, especially on Tuesday! Delicious $5 margs, and plenty of food options to choose from. After reading reviews, I gathered some friends and headed out to the strand to check this place out. The restaurant was bright (almost too bright), clean and the customers looked like they were having a nice time. It didn't feel like a typical mexican cantina to me at all. The waittress was super friendly and did her job very well and the owner swung by to thank us for coming. I thought that was a nice touch. The tables felt a little small for the large trays of chips and salsa and other items we bought. it was hard to find them on the table for everything. The regular frozen margarita with raspberry was very good. Drinks prices were reasonable. They do use a small wine glass and the wine cost about nine bucks. I'd rather have red wine glasses for the red wine and white wine glasses for the white wine. As far as the meals were concerned, I would say that the fajitas were very good. We shared a medium order. It come with 3 tortillas. Need 1-2 more. The vegetables with the fajitas were well prepared and very bright and tasty. Order came with guacamole, sour cream, fluffy, fresh rice, and beans. No cheese. My friends ordered the small tortilla soup and while the presentation was very strong, we were all laughing about how small the bowl was. It looked like an ice cream cup for single scoop. I think they should make that a little bit bigger. Use a wide bowl? My other friend ordered corn and guac and seemed to enjoy both. We went last night, very excited to have a new Mexican restaurant! It was late so we had chips, queso and guacamole. Chips were warm and sturdy, not too salty. The queso was not out of a can, really thick consistency. Salsa was great too, not too spicy. The guacamole was creamy; we devoured everything. We could have done without the second platter of chips but oh well. 1/5/2024,we split the fajita beef nachos, plenty for two. The meat was tender with great flavor, on a mound of chips with queso, refried bean, jalapeños and a scoop of guacamole. We asked for the sour cream, lettuce and tomato on the side. The tomato was actually pico de gallo, which we poured over the nachos anyway. Salsa was on the side too and not too spicy, with a hint of sweetness. Great service from Sharon at the bar. Came by to get a margarita and some dinner and decided to sit at bar. The bartender named "Sharon" was very rude from the start, did not greet us at all and just asked us what we wanted in a very rude tone. We started by ordering margaritas and when we asked her to repeat herself because we couldn't hear she basically yelled and you could just hear the rudeness in her voice.
