Thank you, Tim Morales at Benjamin & Sons for selling me a Grandfather clock that keeps good time, chimes very pleasantly, and looks very good. First, I contacted Tim about a new Howard Miller mantle clock that was having issues. He did the warranty work on it. But, Howard Miller is going out of business, and the quality of their clocks seems not to be what they used to produce. Second, he worked on a 1920 Herschede mantle clock I bought on eBay. With me standing there, he pulled out the mechanism and it was clear that a part was broken. Plus, it did not look at all like the photo posted by the clocksmith on eBay who sold it to me. Tim did what he could. The reason I bought those clocks is that I want a mechanical clock that keeps good time, and neither of them do. But many Grandfather Clocks do keep good time, and I knew that Tim has some. So, after a conversation with him, I bought a 1988 Ridgeway Grandfather Clock from him. Tim and his son delivered the clock, set it up, and Tim gave me a brief overview. He also had the manual and original paperwork for me. It's beautiful, and after a few adjustments it is accurate to within a few seconds. It does play three different chimes, but I love the Winchester chimes, and this clock sounds wonderful. Soooo Happy!! Tim came yesterday and repaired my 38 year old Sligh wall clock without having to reorder parts. I previously went to a repair shop in Fife(now closed) that told me if I had anything else go wrong I would need to replace the entire mechanism to the tune of $1k. Tim said that was complete misinformation. I was dreading having to take my clock down and drive a good distance and then wait for a lengthy expensive repair. Tim's operation is mobile so it was so easy. He came over and in less than an hour had my clock back up and running. Wow, Tim is AMAZING. He came to our home and repaired 3 clocks within half an hour. One is a 125-year-old cast iron mantel clock that hasn't worked for the past decade (since the elderly clock repairman in a nearby town passed away). Another is a wall clock that plays bird songs on the hour. Such clocks are infamous for breaking down, but our mother (an avid birdwatcher) loved this one, so we try to keep it going in remembrance of her. Tim took my call from his mobile workshop and scheduled a home visit right away. He was able to diagnose the issue for our grandmother clock and completed maintenance and repairs on site. He was able to tell us a bit about our clock that was a gift from a family member. Also let us know about need for maintenance every 7-10 years. Wonderful service and I loved the house call cause I had no idea how I would get it there! I think we messed it up getting home.... Tim is amazing doing what he could considering the bad snow we had on Monday and we had an appointment. I wouldn't of wanted him trying to get here in that mess! My Grandfather clock stopped keeping time and stopped chiming on the appropriate hour. Had gotten in touch with the shop I bought it from, but the owner refused to make a housecall to fix it. I have a very old Cuckoo clock that has been passed down in the family for year, but had not worked in a very long time. Tim at Benjamin & Son's was able to get it back to its original working order. We also had a couple of issues with it after we got it back (not due to anything Tim did, just because we don't know how the clock worked and it's VERY OLD) and he came out at no charge and taught us how to run it properly. Their work seems to be very good. However, when I dropped my clock off for repair they told me it would take 3 weeks, as they were backed up a bit. I was fine with that. But it ended up taking 7 weeks, twice being lied to about its finish date along the way. When I picked it up and paid, there was no apology. I wouldnt be so upset as to the length of the repair if this wasnt a surprise for my parents 35th anniversary, which was missed. UPDATE: I was called following this review and apologized to for the delay. They offered to extend the warranty to 3 years. read more

Since my previous review I've brought in one old Bulova automatic and two old Rolex automatics for full servicing. The Bulova service cost $295 and included complete disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and assembly of the movement, polishing of the crystal, and polishing of the gold case to match factory specifications. My great grandfather's watch now runs flawlessly and looks new despite being almost 60 years old. The Rolex's cost $495 each but included a full service, case polishing, and a new crystal. Unfortunately the previous owner of my reference 1501 Rolex had epoxied the bezel onto the case. Johnathan was able to remove the glue and properly install the bezel with no damage to the case or movement. Benjamin and Sons is a first rate business with great customer service that can handle any horological work. read more

Stopped here to have a battery replaced and a link removed from my watch. The whole thing took about 10 minutes, no appointment needed, and they were very friendly. A little pricey, 8 dollars for a link removal and 12 dollars for battery replacement but I'd happily go back again. The battery also comes with a one year warranty. read more

Was referred here by my jewelers, been trying to come here for a month just to get my watch battery replaced and have been turned away every time. The whole store is is either closed for weeks or the watch maker is gone, or not accepting new projects. Going on two months and they cannot replace my watch battery. Hi, yes I went there to get a nice watch repaired. I was told they were closed for 2 weeks and behind on their work. And that they were not accepting any new work for a while. Had my antique clock worked on twice to get new springs. He never got it right. Seven day springs only work for 2-3 days,. He also kept the clock for long periods of time. Never called as promised. Gave up with this place! read more

They are not accepting watch repairs at this time, although their advertising says differently. This is ostensibly due to a large backup of work. Maybe if they were open more than 21 hours a week, they would have time to accomplish more work. read more
