Just this morning I had my first appointment at Podiatry Associates in Columbia, MD. There I was…read moreseen by Dr. Ritter, one of the doctors on staff. I was pleased with the friendliness of the receptionists, X-Ray techs and the doctor. The environment was pleasant and unhurried. I was seen on time, rather than waiting for up to an hour past my appt. time with other doctors. Dr. Ritter took the time to thoroughly answer my many questions and was polite. What I was most thrilled by was the ability to get the X-Rays done on the premises rather than by a third party as is my usual experience with specialists who require X-Rays. This usually results in having to wait weeks for a bothersome injury, making things worse. The X-Rays were done, and in less than 5 minutes the doc was standing there going over them with me. The appointment was as simple as going to a day spa rather than a medical appointment. I highly recommend this business. It doesn't hurt that, for me, the office is only a half mile away. I could practically walk there. Also, they take Aetna for insurance, and others, I'm sure.

When the receptionist found out I was a new patient I was told the next available appointment was next month. I explained that I couldn't wait that long and was told sorry... So if you are looking for a doctor and have never seen Dr. Ritter don't bother calling him. He obviously is not interested in new patients.

He told me that it's an "elective surgery" to remove if I have the money and that my nail will look deformed and I'll need to commit 6-8 weeks soaking and gauzing "if it hurts bad enough". Or go back to the salon and have them dig it out. First of all, THE DOCTOR NEEDS TO MAKE THAT DETERMINATION NOT THE PATIENT. Essentially he said get surgery or wait until it becomes infected. And "if I have the money?" Excuse me?! Second, ANY podiatrist or even primary care doctor should know very well that salons are not qualified to treat ingrown toenails so how can he recommend such a thing? That's also borderline sexist. Adding to this, I was told I could call the billing office to resolve my issues and get a refund. They said they'd talk to the Columbia office. Within a day. It's been 2 weeks and never got my money back for my unresolved case. Response to comment : Stop responding with the whole "HIPPAA regulations prevent us from disclosing and call the office" thing. It sounds like an automated response by a computer.

His attention to detail is remarkable, he takes the time to do thorough evaluations and makes sure every step of the treatment plan is done properly. This is my second course of physical therapy with him. The first time was very successful, and for the second round I was so committed to having Carmelo as my therapist again that I waited a month just to make sure I could work with him. That alone says a lot about the quality of care he provides. As a healthcare provider myself, I can recognize the difference between average and truly exceptional care. Carmelo absolutely delivers high-quality, patient-focused therapy. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about your progress and well-being, I highly recommend him. Lastly, I can say all of the physical therapy technicians here are also professional, kind, and always supportive, which makes the entire experience smooth and encouraging.

If you need to reach someone whether for a minor concern or something urgent you're better off heading straight to the emergency room. After my nerve block wore off, I was in significant pain. I called and messaged through their Klara system multiple times with no response all day. Eventually, I received a generic message saying I was "fine," without anyone actually speaking to me. I ended up going to the ER, where they discovered additional bone separation in my shoulder that explained the worsening pain. Ironically, the staff at the surgery center who weren't even responsible for my follow-up care were far more helpful. They answered calls and offered advice to manage my pain, something this office failed to do. At my follow-up appointment, I was told I'd be prescribed medication. When I left, no one mentioned how or when I'd receive it. I called to ask if I could pick it up on my way home no answer, no callback. I tried again an hour later. Still nothing. No text, no voicemail, no help. If you're looking for a place that performs a procedure and then disappears, this is it. But if you expect any kind of post-operative care or basic communication, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
