Very average! For a bed & breakfast, our stay here was surprisingly self service. To check in, we just entered the code (emailed to us) in order to enter the main building and all the keys to the different rooms were laid out on a table in the front. We stayed in Oren's room, which was on the smaller side but fine for our purposes - very bare bones. When we booked it, the website said that it came with a sitting room, but didn't mention that it was a shared sitting room with another unit. However, the sitting room was very pleasant and had a working TV. We stayed for two nights and didn't wake up on time for breakfast (served 8AM - 9:30) either morning, so I can't really speak to that. We only encountered the innkeeper once, but she mostly kept to herself. Many people choose bed & breakfasts for the charm, so that was slightly lacking in our experience. Our only other complaint was the insects - mostly lots of moths, but that wasn't surprising in a place this old. Overall though, the stay worked out for us! The location was very close to the venue of the wedding we were in town for and also to downtown Peterborough, which I recommend checking out. read more

We recently had the pleasure of staying in the John Adam's suite at the Benjamin Prescott Inn in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. I was absolutely blown away by the experience. The inn is located in a beautiful, historic building that has been lovingly restored. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the accommodations are top-notch. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a large bed, a very nice sitting area, and an amazing balcony with a great view!! We stayed in the same suite last year when we visited last year to climb Mt. Monadnock and go to a wedding. It is a great room to relax in after a long day of hiking. The stairs to the room are a little steep but were not an issue for us in any way. It is very nice to have the bathroom separated as it can then accommodate multiple guests. The view from the room was absolutely amazing and we left the balcony door open so we could then smell the lilacs throughout the room. This year we had stopped in multiple places to eat and recommend Pancho's Pizza, Emma's 321 pub, and Kimball Farms as they are a must go : ) We went to Tully Lake and walked the Tully Lake Loop (2hr walk) and then through Doane's Falls (30 min hike) which was amazing and beautiful. The next day we visited the Cathedral of the Pines (20 min walk) and then hiked up Mt. Watatic (3 hrs hike). The innkeeper Michael was very attentive and friendly and always asked how we liked our day trek. Overall it was great and returning to our room always allowed us to end the days in the best way possible. read more

I stayed the night during a recent work trip. The innkeeper, Chris, greeted me warmly in the parking lot and helped get my luggage to my room (Phebe's room). I felt very safe and secure in this location. I had a lovely tour of the back yard and field with the innkeeper. There are several lovely old barns on the property. My room had such a comfortable bed with pristine, crisp white sheets. It was very quiet and I slept well. In the morning, I enjoyed meeting other lodgers over a hearty breakfast of fresh fruit, bacon, fried eggs, toasted croissant with cranberry preserves. I booked a room here for my granddaughters wedding , then I read some recent reviews and was a bit concerned, so I didn't have high expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised when we arrived rather late in a rain storm and this very friendly fellow Chris greeted us immediately. He showed us to our room and we were done for the night. The next morning we came down for breakfast expecting at least coffee, not much else. He served a wonderful meal made to order. He indicated he'd been on the job only 7 weeks and he was loving his new position! Chris was so personable and I feel he will do well as the Inn keeper here. I would definitely recommend this Inn and I believe you will be very happy and pleased when you visit. read more

Notice there are no recent reviews. The Inn changed ownership the beginning of June, so do not expect the same service as the reviews showed from the prior owners. The new owner lives near Boston, so he's not around. It's pretty much self service. It was well decorated and seemed clean, so those are plusses. The suite we stayed in was a little strange though ... Eg, all the floors are unlevel.... like ALOT .. si much that you lean back at a decline when you get in bed. Also the floor of the shower feels unstable/ loud creeking noise, and is very wonky. Towels are very basic. Bed seems good ... other than leaning back. It's not a bad place, but don't expect gourmet breakfast or the service the prior owners gave (according to prior reviews). If you keep that in mind, it's ok accommodations. I'm not sure what else is around here to compare to but this was all that was available in the area at the time. Note, this room, while it was a suite, had no tv. Not sure if that's the case in all rooms or not, but fyi. read more

When we arrived at the inn we were pleasantly surprised to find that there is an innkeeper staying on the premises! Chris has been there for about seven weeks and has already begun to transform the inn back to its former days. Breakfast was delicious pancakes loaded with blueberries and raspberries with continental options if you wanted them. Chris was readily available with suggestions of what to do in the area, being a resident of the town. He has many plans for the inn - we're looking forward to seeing what was done when we're back next year! read more

So much potential not lived up to. Our rooms were very clean. Furnishings a little old and tired. Check in was a door code emailed. Message said to send a text if any questions. Did that, never got an answer. Breakfast was very nondescript continental. Woman who put it out was pleasant, didn't know much about house or area. Sunday when we were "checking out" tried to find someone to let them know the front steps were coated in ice. Rang the bell, knocked on the innkeeper door, no response. Would have liked a receipt for our stay, clearly wasn't getting one that morning. Emailed requesting one on our return home, it's been 5 days, nothing yet. Very bizarre. so although it is a nice building, with decent rooms, it is not a friendly cozy place to stay. It's a bed and a bath and nothing more. read more

It was okay. I don't think I ever saw the "Inn Keeper", just talked to him by phone/text message. I think the place is nice, but definitely over priced. My room was clean with a king sized bed. The room was warm, but the hallway leading to the room was very cold. Unfortunately, the hallway contained the toilet, sink, and VERY small shower. The continental breakfast was okay. There was no time listed for the breakfast. I got down there at 9:15 and it ended at 9:30. A worker, who didn't say anything to anyone - even when I said "Good Morning", came out at 9:30 and started pulling everything into the kitchen. All while two guests were still trying to get food. One woman was making coffee and he took the milk away while she was standing there. It was extremely rude. The wi-fi was extremely spotty in my room. It would drop and re-connect constantly. I think they can charge their prices because they are the only "rooms" in the area. I will not be staying there again, it's not worth the price. read more

We stayed in the third floor (the only room up there). It was dirty....needed to be swept and a good cleaning. There were whiskers in the sink, ring in the toilet, seeds in the bed, toothpaste on the mirror, carpet was not nailed to top step with nails exposed. We tried to contact the owner twice on their website to allow them to address these issues and they did not respond to us either time. I just don't want others to have this experience. This is the second time I've stayed here and wow has it improved. Two years ago I stayed here just before a transition in ownership (to the people that came before Chris). It is a simple, New England Bed and Breakfast with a delicious breakfast cooked by the extremely nice and friendly new owner. if you were shying away because of the last owners, fear not, things have changed. Very comfortable and full of colonial charm. 4 stars, for the clean room, the king size bed was really comfortable with excellent large pillows. I'd give 5 stars for the breakfasts. The husband and wife innkeepers are long-time hospitality pros, and she is a fantastic chef! Our first morning we had incredible cheese omelets, but these were far better than what you think an omelet is. Baked in a deep dish, they were light and fluffy and perfectly cooked. Fresh baked biscuits and fresh fruit as sides. The next morning was even better. The best - really - Belgian waffles ever. Crisp outside, light inside as the batter is left to rise for a day, like bread. Fresh baked muffins and yogurt with fruit as sides. Plenty of good coffee and cream too. The innkeepers are friendly but not intrusive. So why not 5 stars, you wonder? Our room didn't have a TV, which isn't awful but it is nice to have. The bathroom in our room was tiny. Like if you're a larger person, good luck. Everything was clean and functional but just know that this is an old inn, without some of the modern conveniences you might get in a newer hotel. We stayed at BPI for a week while hiking the area. The best was the open field in the back. We spent part of our late afternoon enjoying the solitude after hiking. The worst was the uninspired breakfast. Instant coffee, stale pastries and breads. The place was not crowded at all. We basically went out to find breakfast each day. I don't think it's to much to ask for fresh coffee and something hot to eat besides bagels in the toaster. The room was not very clean and the bathroom was literally a converted clothes closet. A person could not use the toilet and close the door. The one time I did see the owner he didn't even acknowledge our presence, not a "good morning " or thanks for staying with us. The owner does not stay on site which I think is important. I suggest one look around for a different place to stay. If you do stay here make sure you get a room in the back unless you want to wake up each morning about 6 AM due to lots of traffic on the road in front. read more

Room: We stayed in the Nabby's Nook. It is a small room, but super clean and comfortable. It has an awesome farmland view from the window. And most importantly,the private bath is spacious, new and very clean! Breakfast : Awesome! We had yogurt, fresh fruits, cherry almond cake, omelette, and homemade sausages. Love the dining area with all the christmas deco! The inn provides coffee/tea and refreshments at no extra charge. Service : the owners were very nice and friendly. They let us check in early. All in all, Benjamin Prescott Inn is one of the best inns I've ever been. Beautiful inn, clean rooms, friendly inn keepers, delicious breakfast and breathtaking surrounding. This was my first time of ever staying at a Bed and Breakfast. It went beyond my expectations, You will be meeting the owners as you check in, they are as charming as the house you see as you drive in to park. There are so many unexpected surprises as you begin to look around, and settle in. Very, very clean, nice thick fluffy white linnen and towles. Has an old New England, European feel. There are snacks and white sangria wine available to welcome your arrival. The owners are so pleasant you feel at home right away. We stayed here after a long day of hiking and loved it! The inn is beautiful and very clean. Our room had a comfortable king sized bed and a private bath, the only issue was that the shower had seen better days. The inn keepers Sue and Charlie were so nice and friendly and made sure we had information on places to eat and walk around town. When I told Sue that my running shoes had gotten soaked from our hike, she offered to lend me a pair of sneakers. When we asked about the best route to Boston, they pulled out maps and explained the different options. We had an awesome talk with Charlie over breakfast about local celebrities and the history of the region. Speaking of breakfast... they served the most delicious pumpkin bread I've ever had with chunks of apple. The bread was served with honey butter and apple jam, yum! They also served nest eggs inside pastry dough, and I have been searching online to find the recipe since. In addition we had a fruit cup, OJ, coffee and free run of the tea cabinet (probably 2 dozen flavors). Would definitely recommend. read more

What a lovely stay. I must admit, it was my first time staying at a B&B, so I didn't know what to expect. But I wanted a quiet weekend away with my wife without the kids :) Everything exceeded my expectations - the room was so comfy, we enjoyed some wine on the chairs overlooking conservation land at sunset, and the BREAKFAST - not only is it great, but I am gluten free, and I've never had such good, warm, gluten free muffins - unbelievable! Stayed in Benjamin's Retreat on a very cold winter night (wind chill of -30 F), bed was comfortable and warm, shower was warm (and clean and updated!), had a cute living area to stay in a play board games.
