2-28-26. I know the Regal has been around for a long time…read morebut this was my first time here. It's an unassuming storefront that's connected to a barber shop and although it's located at a pretty busy intersection, it's easy to miss (as far as I'm concerned). So I tried "keplach soup" for the first time and it was enjoyable. I didn't even know what keplach was until I googled it while looking at the menu. If you're not aware it's similar to a perogies, or a ravioli or a wonton (you get my point). The dough however is a little thicker and it's cooked in the consomme broth. It wasn't the most flavorful soup I've ever tried, but it was good nevertheless. The potato pancake, although fried, was a lot lighter than I thought it was going to be. Nice crunch with good potato flavor. The pastrami Reuben on a club roll was very satisfying. I usually order it on rye bread but was in the mood to have it on a roll today. It held up well and didn't fall apart or get mushy like rye bread usually does. Pastrami was sliced thin and had a nice (but mild) flavor. Decent sized sandwich and prices are on par with all the other kosher delis in Long Island. Service was fast and friendly. They had plenty of other tasty looking items in the display case as soon as you walk in. Maybe next time I'll try something different (again). It wasn't outstanding (3.5 stars), but it was a good meal and it warrants a return visit.

I want to also add the 1 Star doesn't reflect how nice the folks are at Regal. Why am I leaving a 1 Star..... $10 for a pint container of Cole Slaw ... REALLY??? It's Cabbage and a little Carrot ... it's delicious but $10 ... you don't have shaved gold in it. Last time we bought it, it was $8 and I thought THAT was outrageous. So last nights Cole Slaw will be the last time for us. ShopRite Woodbury changed their Cole Slaw recipe recently and it went from Good to Really Good and it's $4.99lb and sometimes will go on sale. I will work on perfecting that sweet tang we enjoy since Cabbage is one of the least expensive items in produce.

We came in before noon on a Sunday and had our choice of tables. Their deli offerings are pretty consistent between stores, with a large double-sided tabloid sized menu. But the service here is just that much better because Marjorie was our server and she treated us like we were her family. As at all Ben's Deli's, you always start with a deep bowl of pickles and a boat of tasty cole slaw (don't be shy if you want a refill). The soup of the day is Chicken a la Reine, which is basically cream of chicken and I love all creamy soups. It comes in a large, wide bowl, but I miss having saltine crackers in my soup. My wife orders the Rachel Panini with pastrami on rye and 2 Ultimate Paninis, one with pastrami & corned beef for me and pastrami & brisket for my son. All the sandwiches are toasted on the panini press and come with a choice of potatoes as a side and Russian dressing. My wife and son go with potato latkes and I go with the thick cut crinkle fries like the Nathan's fries down in Coney Island. Theirs come with apple sauce, which I like to slurp up as dessert. Gotta come back next time to try out the Ben's Deli Dog or maybe a nice Hot Open Brisket sandwich with plenty of gravy.

I reckon the pastrami won the game but the corned beef beat the spread. The Grandma's Soup was a nice upgrade to standard matzoh ball. The pickles are enjoyable and perhaps the biggest surprise was the coleslaw.

I found some recommended bakeries that would have taken me over an hour drive (/r LongIsland), but i decided to give BNB Plainview a shot. I called and asked about the dairy-free selection and they were incredibly helpful. Encouraged, I swung by during my lunch break and was very impressed with their dairy-free selection. Didn't realize that their entire menu was gluten free and tree-nut free (I have n=1 friend who would have appreciated this). I also liked that they separated the vegan and non-vegan items (we were fine with eggs so went non-vegan). The same person I spoke with on the phone greeted me and I went with her recommendation of the non-vegan chocolate mousse cake. While waiting, I had a gluten-free multigrain bagel (toasted) with cream cheese. It was really good! I was pretty shocked because I expected it to taste like cardboard to be honest. Now the mousse cake. I held my breath as the birthday girl ate the first bite. She loved it! Guess what. I loved it too! Well if I ever need a nut free, gluten free, or vegan baked good, I can take a short drive to Plainview for BNB. I may also return for a bagel.
