The place doesn't look like it's going to be special but the food is quite excellent and it's fairly priced compared to the other big NY Jewish delis. I usually go for a pastrami brisket combo and a potato pancake. The meats are always thin sliced and quite moist. The pastrami isn't Katz's level, but still quite enjoyable. And the staff there is very nice. Check the hours before you go - they're not open as many hours as they used to be. read more

Okay, this is the first time I have been here, and this Yelp rating is way off!!! This place is a 4.5 or better. The homemade cold slaw was tangy and refreshing. The pastrami and corned beef (I ordered a combo on rye) were tasty and juicy. Fries were fantastic, I added salt to Taste, and I loved just loved their homemade brown gravy (for the fries). This place is at least a 4.75. I'll be a regular from now on. The missing .25 is because the meats were so good I wanted more on my sandwich. I wasn't feeling great following my booster shot, so consulted Yelp for a nearby source of hot chicken soup. I quickly found Pastrami Plus, ordered takeout online and thoroughly enjoyed everything I got. Their chicken soup was very good, came with thin noodles and soft tender matzoh balls. Five stars for flavor and curative powers! Side portion of chopped chicken liver came with a few greens and rye bread, flavorful and delicious. I needed to keep my strength up (good rationalization to overeat lol) so indulged in a hot pastrami on rye as well. The sandwich was very tasty and lean as ordered, a nice size but not as large as deli sandwiches I've had elsewhere. (This is not a criticism as the huge monstrosities sold at some NYC delis can be overkill IMHO). Their homemade spinach knish was a nice surprise, a large round ball of green veggie goodness encased in mashed potatoes with a warm flaky crust. Cole slaw was sweeter than I like but still good. Not bad, but not great. This little East Meadow spot is serving up kosher style Jewish Deli fare, but I have to wonder if the lack of foot traffic affects the freshness of the product. Ordered a hot pastrami sandwich and heard the gentleman who took my order go straight to the slicer, seemingly getting my order ready - terrific. Unfortunately the next sound I heard was the microwave. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that the meat was nuked into oblivion and completely rubberized, but the consistency made it apparent how it was made "hot". And before you wonder, I ordered the "juicy" or fatty side so this is not a matter of it being firm due to the leanness. The flavor was ok, far from the best I've ever had and the portion was honestly a bit stingy by Jewish Deli standards. I will say the fries were fresh and crispy and the service was nothing short of friendly and accommodating. When in the mood for a good pastrami sandwich, I lament the fact that I do not live anywhere near Katz's deli. However, out in Long Island, I am not without options for a decent stand in. Pastrami Plus, hidden in a strip out in East Meadow, NY, can be overlooked if you drive by too fast. Walking in, you are transported into an old school jewish deli in the city. Ambience: This looks like a small typical NYC Jewish deli you would find in the upper east side. Think hanging salamis from the ceiling, and a refrigerated display case of knishes. Food: I ordered two pounds of pastrami with generous "marbling", none of that healthy lean stuff. They will ask when are you planning to eat it ... don't worry, this will determine if they give you something hot or cold. I asked for one pound of each, because I plan on snacking on the drive home :) What can I say? This stuff is good. I got a sandwich from this place about 2 years ago and remembered it was pretty good. I went back recently to see if it was holding up. Place is pretty dingy inside but it wasn't a big deal as I got my order to go. I got the regular pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard. It was $15.52 w/ tax included. Not sure if I remembered correctly, but I thought the sandwich was a little bigger last time. Also, compared to when I last got a pastrami sandwich at Lido Kosher deli, I think this sandwich was smaller. Anyways, I enjoyed the sandwich but it wasn't anything too crazy. Nothing really stood out about it, but nothing was glaringly bad about it either. It was pretty ok. I think it's pretty expensive considering how much you get as well. On our way home from a day out, we decided to stop in for a few sandwiches. We call it a hidden gem. Quaint Kosher Deli, maybe 10 tables to sit for a quick bite or take out. I believe we were greeted by the owner - so nice and very welcoming. We sat at a table with menus, and he took our drink order, returning with drinks, a bowl of Cole slaw and a bowl of pickles. The Cole slaw was delicious, a little sweetness to it, not drowning in dressing. I ordered the Corned Beef on rye sandwich and my husband ordered the pastrami with Swiss cheese and a side of fries. My Corned Beef was tender and delicious, as was the rye bread. A perfect amount of meat, a decent portion for 1 person. Same with my husband's pastrami. The fries were a crinkle ends cut. Crisp on the outside, a nice potato on the inside - perfection!! They also gave us a sample of the sweet potato fries, which were equally as good, a nice sweet potato flavor. Notable mention to the pastrami knish and kasha knish that we noticed in the case and looked enticing - we will definitely try next time!! I didn't plan on eating at Pastrami Plus but once I got there I was kind of intrigued. There aren't many delis like this that are reliable aside from Ben's or Pastrami King. Inside the place isn't huge. There are just a few tables and thankfully there was parking when I got there with my party of 3. Service was the best part. The folks at the counter were super nice and patient as we looked over the menu. We quickly had Cole slaw, pickles and beverages on our table. Minor ding for the fact that it was late and they weren't jammed but our table wasn't wiped down from the previous diners. I ordered pastrami (lean) and fries with a Diet Coke. My son got a hot dog. My wife got a corned beef sandwich. The pastrami was moist and warm but the texture felt off. There was none of the crisp snap that a pastrami sandwich should have. It wasn't overstuffed either. I usually end up grazing on pastrami for a few minutes before biting into the sandwich just to make the sandwich a manageable size to bite into. The joy of my time honored tradition was really lost here. The pastrami didn't have a lot of flavor and if this is cooked on premises, it was vastly undercooked. In comparison to Ben's Deli, there was no contest in terms of the food quality. My son said the hot dog was actually tasty. My wife had the same evaluation of the corned beef as I had of the pastrami. As for my fries, they were mostly shorter than a thumb. Not many long fries at all. We agreed once in the car that this was a "one and done" visit here. If I was in a mall in the Midwest, this might pass for New York hot pastrami. That this is on Long Island and Ben's Deli is maybe another 20 minutes further west makes this really massively disappointing. Mind you, Ben's isn't what it used to be. Still, their pastrami is. It has snap and crunch to it which is what makes a pastrami sandwich so magical. If this was my one night in NY and this was what I received as a Jewish deli experience I would be pretty disappointed. Check was about $51 for 2 sandwiches, one fries and one hot dog. As soon as you enter you're greeted with a warm hello from the owners, who bring a bowl full of homemade coleslaw (yum) and pickles Started with the matzo ball soup which is the best- the broth is rich and flavorful the matzo ball is light and delicious. Next was of course a pastrami sandwich- lean, juicy and piled high. Dad enjoyed the mushroom barley stew- I mean soup- outstanding! Least we forget a perfectly done herbrew National hotdog. I would put this place on notch above your local bodega but nowhere near the quality of a good kosher style deli. Nowhere near enough meat to justify the price tag and the sandwich just wasn't great. The store looked kind of run down also. I did order a Coney Island knish and it was great. But at over $4.00 for a knish it had better be. I had never been to Pastrami Plus before but after seeing that it had some positive reviews my Wife and I decided to give it a try since we were in the mood for a Jewish deli. The place is small, which a deli counter and 10 or so tables. When we arrived we were immediately welcomed which was nice. We tried many different things from the menu, the fried kreplach (which they make in house), it was served with freshly fried onions and gravy. They were very good, and the gravy tasted like "real" gravy, not some mix. We each had a pastrami sandwich which were very good. The rye bread was very fresh, and the pastrami had great flavor with just the right amount of fat. The spinach and kasha knishes (both homemade) were huge, and tasty as well. We also had the matzoh ball soup, which I also enjoyed. The food is all obviously made in house, and it was very good. The service was great also. I would highly recommend a visit to Pastrami Plus if you're look for a good old fashioned Jewish deli! read more

Delicious pastrami and knish! This place is a bit pricy: $4.29 for the homemade potato knish and $15.99 for the VIP burger but you do get a good portion. The homemade potato knish is definitely tasty and huge (It's a little bigger than my fist!!) The VIP burger is also large and dense. It has a few strips of pastrami (which is soft, juicy, and delicious) with a thick burger patty. It comes with a side of onion rings and fries. My order came with 2 giant pieces of onion rings & potato cubes (not the typical skinny French fries). I would definitely order from this place again. Pastrami Plus has been my go-to for a long time. I don't go often but I look forward to it every time... that was until yesterday. I ordered a fatty pastrami on club; my eating companion ordered a brisket, gravy on side. It took more than a half hour to get two sandwiches despite there being just one other person in store. I could see the amount of meat on the sandwiches had diminished perhaps by more than half. Both sandwiches looked skimpy and dry. Despite my companion eating his sandwich which he acknowledged to be dry, I asked the waiter if he could give me meat with some fat on it, or just add fat to what I had. (Bad health choice but it's a rare treat.) He was happy to help. The end result was indeed less dry but, unless I am no judge of what I'm eating, the pastrami seemed an inferior cut. The whole meal was a disappointment. I will give Pastrami Plus another chance. I hope I will be happier next time. If not, I'm afraid I'm done with them for good. It's a shame. I went here with my friend for lunch. This is a great place for Jewish deli food . They give you complimentary pickles and coleslaw and offer a soup and half sandwich deal. I read reviews and decided to try it because I was really in the mood for Jewish Deli, which almost doesn't exist anymore. I live in Queens and used to patronize Ben's Best (not to be confused with the Ben's chain), but they went out of business a few years ago. When I walked in, the place was kind of shabby and didn't look like much and there was only one other person in the store. I ordered a sandwich that wasn't even on the menu: a pastrami and brisket combo with Cole slaw on the sandwich (to go). You can't see them make the sandwich so I didn't know what the meat looked like. When I walked out I thought to myself, this is probably going to suck. It took me a long time to drive back to Queens and I also thought by then that the meat would be all dried out. I got home and opened up the sandwich and took a bite. Much to my surprise this just might have been the JUICIEST Jewish Deli sandwich I've EVER had. I was shocked. Both the pastrami and the brisket were FABULOUS! I scoffed it down. In spite of a nice sized sandwich, I probably could have easily eaten another half because it went down so easily. With a can of soda, the combo sandwich (which came with some decent pickles), and tax, it was under $20. Expensive, but today, for Jewish deli, that's very fair and far less expensive than Ben's, which is vastly inferior. This is my new go-to when I want this kind of food. RECOMMENDED On Monday October 29th, having fled the nightmare crowds at a franchise restaurant on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, I needed to find some other grub......stat. A quick U-turn to the south side of the Pike into a strip mall and I'm at the the mostly empty Pastrami Plus, a small family-owned Kosher style deli which I had not been to in 15-20 years. Nicole, my pleasant young lady server, took my order efficiently. I picked on the two (too) small pickles (dill and cucumber) while I waited for my sandwich, the "All the Way" ($16.95) which contained pastrami, corned beef and brisket on a club roll. A Dr. Brown's Cream soda to wash it down and I'm in Kosher heaven. My sandwich arrived after some delay caused by an unreasonably irate telephone caller who was whining about what appeared to be a takeout order issue. No big deal. The sandwich was worth waiting for. The three meats were not overly fatty. The Russian Dressing provided needed moisture. The meats were flavorful and I enjoyed the sandwich. Although not as orgasmic as Katz's, the sandwich was good and I would order it again if I was in the area. Moreover, Nicole did a good job. She checked back frequently to see if I was enjoying my sandwich and whether I needed anything else. BOTTOM LINE: It is unfortunate that the ill informed dietary restrictions we "moderns" place upon ourselves have led to the demise of Kosher and Kosher style delis, which were once more common. I'm glad that we still have Pastrami Plus, a place where you can get a good Kosher or Kosher style sandwich. read more
