His wedding photos not only documented what was happening at the weddings he shot, but also brought an artistic quality to each image. Not in an overly glamorous or canned way that some wedding photographers do, but in a very natural way that also used the surroundings and environment as subjects itself. We had him shoot both our rehearsal dinner and our wedding, which he did very professionally. He made the photo shoots fun and relaxing by joking around with us and accommodating our preferences. As something he does on the side from his day job, you can tell that he really loves photography and is willing to spend the extra time to get beautiful shots, get to know the couple, and enjoy the experience along the way. Alex shot our wedding and met our expectations for the day…read more To give some context, our wedding was not the blowout extravaganza you might see on TLC where six figures are dropped so the bride can have ice sculptures and a chocolate fountain while being serenaded by Seal and a backup band.... not that there's anything wrong with that... Instead, we had a modest wedding in the Berkeley Rose Garden with a brief ceremony followed by cake. We definitely did not want our photos to be a bunch of posed shots, like my best man pantomiming that we were late by checking his watch and wiping his brow (actual shot from my uncle's wedding). We contracted with Alex for two hours of shooting. This included an hour of portraits prior to the ceremony and shots of the ceremony. Alex was flexible on arrangements and aggressive in his pricing. It looks like he's trying to build his portfolio, so expect to see your wedding on his website and Flickr (though I'm certain he would be open to discussion if that's an issue for you). He gave us the DVD with high quality files so we could play with them in Photoshop or print out our own. According to our arrangement, we received raw files, but it looks like he can do all the color correction and such to enhance the photos if that's what you're into. As for shooting, Alex came up with a number of excellent backgrounds to take advantage of the Rose Garden, and was working with what my friends claim are good bodies and lenses. All the shots were crisp and he caught some excellent candids. Our ceremony was about five minutes, but he gave us a number of good shots. Finally, Alex carries all his gear around on a shoot with a Batman utility belt. If your reaction was "nice...", then Alex will be a good fit for your wedding. If you wrinkled your nose, then you probably already booked the 2-man team for eight hours. Make sure they get good shots of you doing the Chicken Dance and Electric Slide.
