Pizza slices the size of your head. That's what you can expect at Benny DiCarta's! I stopped in recently and got a slice for lunch. Their whole pizzas are 28" in diameter and if you eat an entire one in 28 minutes you get a cash prize. I asked the kid working if anyone's completed it and he said that three people have! Whoa. The slices are really huge and only about $5-$7. They had 3 specialty slices as well as classic slices (pepperoni, sausage, cheese). Nate got the Tarantino (chicken, bacon, and ranch) and I got the sausage. They have a cooler full of canned/bottled drinks. The employee taking our order was kind and patient. It took a bit of time for us to get our slices but they were hot and fresh and easy to eat, not too floppy. There's some indoor seating and a bit of outdoor seating in the back. The ambiance isn't anything to write home about, but it is a decent spot to eat or you can easily take your slice to go. I liked the amount of cheese and flavor of the sauce. The sausage was thin slices of sausage links rather than chunks. The sausage could've had a bit more flavor but I liked the pizza and I'm glad we got to try it! The slices are the size of your head - really though, from my personal experience this is the biggest piece of pizza I have ever eaten. I've been told about the humongous pizza slices and the rumors were 100% true! lol Located in KZ, this cute little pizza spot is located in the heart of town. We had been busy hopping around, but we saved room for a slice of pizza. They have a pretty creative menu and one can purchase an entire pizza. The size of the pizza box is larger than a person. We decided to try a slice of the pepperoni. Of course, we were going to split it. Overall, the pizza was decent. I think the novelty of this place will bring the crowds. The portion sizes are huge - I mean like size of half a normal pizza! The pizza is great and the size is absurd!! I went purely to see if it was as good as I'd heard. The pizza was pretty good, super thin pizza. If you like thin pizza you'll love it! WOW! We just got our first pizza from Benny's downtown. This thing is crazy! But crazy good! Big is an understatement. While size matters, it tastes great too. We got a half garlic/mushroom and half pineapple/cherry-pepper pizza. They were both great and we will definitely get this again. This is the pizza place that downtown Kalamazoo has needed. Super excited for owners Jeff and Colleen, even if he gave me a hard time for being a Red Sox fan. The atmosphere is legit, a fun, brightly colored, city vibe. The pizza is delicious, perfectly floppy "Virginia style" (pretty much New York) with paradoxically crispy and chewy crust. The ovens they use are magical. It can be pretty busy, so plan ahead. I'd encourage you to go toward the beginning of a meal rush if you want to get in and out, or you could call ahead for a whole pie (masssive pizza). Four of us, all pretty big dudes, split a whole pizza, and three of us were just past pleasantly full. Fortunately, they do offer single slices (plenty to eat for most people). If you like pizza, and if you enjoy downtown, this place is a must try. Go in, grab a slice, and walk around for awhile. You can also sit and enjoy it in the alley seating out back. Ordered my 1 slice of pizza about 15 minutes ago and am still waiting. Benny's has really good pizza but for a slow evening, this is a long wait. The woman, who I believe is the manager, took my order and is sitting around on her phone, watching TikTok very loudly with no consideration for the people here. You can buy them by the slice or try carrying this bad boy home in a huge box. They have all the safety protocols in place and everything is neat and tidy. It was a good slice! During COVID shut down we ran in to grab some slices to go. The place was super clean and the people working were really quick. We got two cheese slices and one pepperoni. If you work downtown...want a good lunch deal. $5 for the pepperoni and $4 for the cheese and they are huge. It was chilly out but since because of the shutdown we couldn't sit down, we ran out back and sat on their little deck to eat. It was chilly but can't wait to hang back there in the decorated alley when the weather is better and things are open. The pizza was really good. Like a New York slice..overflowing the paper plate. Nice crispy crust and the sauce was delicious. They know just the right toppings on it to still be able to fold it and lose the whole thing. Ok, hear me out. This was not a bad place to eat. The service was good, the food is inexpensive, the restaurant has a really nice selection of drinks, and they serve very large slices of pizza. So it was all fine. I just honestly didn't love the pizza. It had been recommended as an awesome pizza place with huge slices that they serve on two paper plates. So I ordered one slice of pepperoni and one slice of sausage. Each one honestly tasted like a sodium bomb. I don't know if it was the crust, the sauce, or a little bit of everything but something made it way way way too salty. I was starving, got about halfway through the second slice and had to give up. So to each his own. This is a pretty popular joint on the edge of the downtown K-Zoo area, and I imagine it's pretty popular in the evenings. There are locals who swear by it. It just was not very good, in my opinion. I want to say I'd like to go back and give it another try but I feel like I still have that briny taste in my mouth from choking down their salt lick pizza slices, and it's been two months since I've been there. We spotted this new pizza joint from the Kalamazoo Menu Group, and tried them for lunch. Their shop is clean and orderly and the two fellows working the order and ovens were very friendly and funny. We bought our slices and some bottled water and they were ready minutes afterwards. The pizza! I rarely ever write an Oh-My-God sort of review but this place has it nailed! Drop in, quick pay, quick pick up, the pizza is fresh from the oven, and the quality! This is foldable New York City style pizza. It is a joy! The crust is target-locked and perfect! The sauce is excellent, not too sweet, not too salty. The cheese is spot on, and I had a pepperoni slice. The absolute star here is the crust. It's **perfect**. It is crispy and chewy and tastes wonderful. Worth every red cent. We went out the back and found outdoor seating benches. What a surprise and we took advantage of this spot to enjoy our pizza outside. All five stars. I'm so happy with this establishment and I am definitely looking forward for another slice. We're on another level here. One bite, everyone knows the rules. Simply put, this pizza can't be compared. It's up there with other greats like putting an astronaut on the moon; we do it because we can, and to prove we can. When you look at a 28" pizza, you will be filled with emotions. Overwhelmed, frightened, giddy. I never felt I needed a pickup truck and a flatbed to transport cargo this beautiful before. When you get it home, you may not have doors with wide enough clearance in your foyer to accommodate this wide-load. Yes, you heard me right, if you are not working with a foyer, or handicap accessible entrance, this requires serious box-tilting. We're talking tilt the box to even enter your residence. It would be easier if you just transported it on a pallet and used a forklift. The box should just come with 4 retractable legs. Be easier than trying to fit this on your table . You could fit 4 adults in lawn chairs around this box, and repurpose it as a poker table, or ship a small tv in it. It's that big. Opening the box, it's like Christmas in Bora Bora, you ain't ever had this before. It's exciting. You don't know what to think, but it's just like the pictures. It's 616 square inches of the finest thin slice west of the Hudson. Going in for the bite, it's got flop. It's going to require 2 hands. Eating it, it's like the definition of pizza. It's what you expect; perfect execution. It is going to earn a spot in your top 5 fave pizza places in town. We ate it in the car, wouldn't recommend driving and trying to do that, I'm afraid you'd lose complete visibility of all passenger traffic, unless you're eating this in the back of a U-haul. read more
