Wow. This place is a literal mess. There are supplies everywhere, 2 haphazard tables. No menus. They didnt even have water (or cups for it) so we had to take our food to go because our kids were thirsty. It also took an extremely long time to get our pizzas when there were no customers and 6 kids working. I assume this mostly a carry away place which is probably what they should transition their space into. My wife and I love pizza! I was hoping to find a pizza joint close to campus as every College scene has at least one great pizza place. We picked Pizza Katerina because it had all five stars. Note: the restaurant is located out west of town in a strip mall....plenty of distance from the campus. So off we went to experience the best rated pizza in Kalamazoo!!! When I choose to dine out I'm looking for an experience. I want the food and service to compliment the experience. However...I want an experience...which is probably hard to get with a pizza joint. Not here!! Upon walking in the door you will probably be confused. There isn't much dine in tables. The tables that are there feel like they are more intended for people waiting to pick up pies. They have a lot of carry out....and a lot of repeat customers! The decor appears to cater to pizza making and not so much to dine in eaters. Lots of storage and racks predominant the walls. Now you make you way to the counter. The menu for walk in dinners is not obvious. However that's when the experience starts! Melanie, one of the owners, is quick to get you a menu. The menu is really simple. All 14" pizzas and three specialty pies listed. Melanie is very engaging and friendly. You instantly become friends with Melanie. You quickly learn and meet the rest of the family that works there. All great people. It's fun to watch Melanie and her family interface with the regulars and semi-regulars. Once your meet the family...you are friends forever! Melanie is very creative and has invented other pizzas that aren't listed on the standard paper menu. This options are listed on line. However, a dine in customer doesn't see these options. While we didn't try one of these other specialty pizzas...they sounded amazing! Melanie explained the effort they go to to pick out the ingredients they need to make the pie special. Melanie also said they make all their dough and sauces from scratch. It was fun to watch the kids toss the pizza to get the size and shape needed. For dinner we ordered a four topping 14" pizza. They make a NY style pizza in case that isn't to your liking. The pizza was excellent!! There were plenty of toppings to give the pie a fresh taste. The sauce was a little sweet in nature. The dough is thin in the middle of the pie as you would except with a NY style pie. The outer dough was soft and baked nicely without being over cooked. The crust has a traditional flour taste. The pizza was excellent - worthy of five stars on its own!! The pizza was very large. We couldn't finish it so we took home two large pieces. The cold pizza the need morning was outstanding as well - that's the mark of great pizza. The crust was still soft and the topping weren't soggy. I can't say enough good about Melanie and families effort to serve us. We made a whole new set of friends as we experienced excellent pizza! Give Pizza Katerina a try!! read more

They are out of the basics... the prices are outrageous. The prices fresh advertise are not even close to what it is when I called do order. They are charging $19 for a basic cheese pizza. The menus says $12.89 The other advertised price is $9.00 for a cheese pizza. What a scam! They don't have basic toppings they don't have cheese bread. Really wanted to try this place and give a small business a chance. The restaurant is a mess, I'm surprised it passes health inspection. read more

We stopped in based on the reviews of others and were satisfied. As always, it's difficult to judge most pizza against the standard East-Coast variety, but Pizza Katerina did a great job with the dough and the crust (something that's hard to find done properly in Michigan). We got the kids a half-cheese/half-pepperoni pie which they almost completed before we left. They all enjoyed the pizza and later got dessert (some pastries and a cookie) and sunglasses. The other pie, for adults, was half-pepperoni/half-sausage with peppers, onions, and kalamata olives. The sausage surprised me and was very good. Overall it was a decent East-Coast style pie in the middle of MI, which itself is quite the feat. I would stop in here again if I end up passing through the area. The staff did a lot to keep everyone entertained and content, which also comes into the 5-star rating. There was also a bag-toss game the kids played while we waited for food. read more

What an amazing find. The staff was very welcoming. It was my 1st time there and they made you feel like family. Fresh ingredients they even grow their own mushrooms!!! One thing I truly love is that they were warm and welcoming one of the family members even shared a slice of their Pizza which I ended up ordering later on during my trip to Michigan. I love that they have seasonal specialty pizzas which are very unique blend of flavors that I never thought I would try on a pizza. Also create your own pizza which is always fun which I made my own and it came out delicious. This is one place I do miss now that I'm back home in Connecticut. And I wish them only happiness and success in the future and I hope that I come back to the area and have more pizza!! read more

Visiting from Cali to bring my son to college, and this was our first meal after a long ass flight/layover, and almost checking into a tweaker hotel (Baymont by Wyndham Kalamazoo boooooo), then running around town with all our luggage hoping something without tweakers would be available. Got the last queen suite at Holiday Inn. TYJ! ANYWAYS, cruising around in our Budget rental that reeked of cigs, this place showed up in our search results with good reviews and it was nearby, and we were hurrrngry. This place was the highlight of our day. Super friendly, Auntie Laura was awesome. My husband and son agreed - best pizza we've ever tasted. The cheese, the cheese, so good! When the pizza and breadsticks came, I was like yoooo, this is a lot for 3 of us. But then we left nothing behind haha I have not experienced a pizza like this place anywhere in LA. I recently started ordering from Market Wagon which carries a few select Pizza Katerina pizzas which are parbaked and have been excellent. We especially love the cheese they use. It reminds us of how pizza used to be. I can only imagine going to the store would be an even better experience. We have ordered the pepperoni and sausage and the garlic chicken Parmesan, both were excellent. I wasn't sure how receptive my husband would be to the chicken one but he thought it was delicious, different but delicious. I also have ordered their garlic rolls and rustic bread, again both are excellent. I am imagining a grilled cheese made with the garlic herb bread, mozzarella, tomato and fresh basil with a drizzle if good balsamic! Try it you will not be disappointed. read more

We have driven past this place a dozen or more times and didn't stop in because it look like any other pizza place. But the magic was when you get the pizza home. We ordered the Thai pizza with pineapple and assorted veggies plus a spicy Thai sauce that was deliciously different. Surprisingly good! We also got a more traditional Margherita pizza that had fresh buffalo mozzarella and fresh cut basil with a spritz of garlic sauce. This was far more traditional but equally delicious. We will definitely be going back and trying the highly rated mushroom pizza next. The cook in the cashier we're both super friendly and nice too. The best way to judge a pizza place is by ordering their plain cheese 'za! I did just that with Pizza Katerina and was most pleasantly surprised at how really good it was. Reminded me of some of the pizza places I knew when I lived in NYC. I took a look at their toppings and I can't wait to get another pie with some of these items. My husband and I wanted to try a new pizza place for dinner and chose Pizza Katerina. The owners are so friendly and while I waited for the pizzas to be done they gave me a freshly baked oatmeal butterscotch cookie which was out of this world! I got the pizzas home and the dough wasn't completely cooked in the middle on the bottom. The pizza itself was delicious, but as soon as you picked up a slice, everything slid right off so it was rather messy. It was hard to eat. It's just amazing pizza. I always order more than my crowd needs so there are leftovers that I can sneak downstairs and eat late at night or the next day. The seasonal pizzas are sooo cool and tasty, keeps you coming back for more. (The Cubano was my favorite). Just have to applaud the innovation. Holy crap is that good pizza. I heard about Pizza Katerina in a Facebook group and I'm so glad we gave it a shot. The wait was a little long, but it was beyond worth it. I got a 9" chicken Alfredo pizza with brussel sprouts and broccoli on top and it was fantastic. My parents got "build your own" style pizza and loved theirs too. The pizzas were worth every penny. We ordered two pies to go. The pizzas were greasy, like soak the box greasy, the crust was charred on the bottom and tasted charred, the toppings were okay. My biggest gripe is the staff I encountered, they talked about donating jobs and didn't seem committed to the job of making and serving pizza. The par bakes are great for an easy meal during the week as it only takes 5-7 minutes in the oven - and my whole family loves it!! (The picture with the basil on it is a par bake - SO EASY and delicious!!! ) Their toppings are fresh and the spices on the pizza make it stand out from the rest. I love the pizza Mel makes but it is so far to drive so imagine my level of happiness when she included Galesburg Harding's for the parbakes. It's so easy! Bring it home, preheat my oven to 450 and pop the pizza in. We tend to like our crust done a little more then most so we bake for 10-12 minutes! I closed my eyes and I took my first bite and got transported home. Except the crust was even better than home. This seems to be a very warm and inviting locally owned business. My son was given some killer shades and a ball with a special surprise! These mom and pop places are growing fewer and farther between. The sauce is on point and they have a great variety of toppings. If you ask for extra cheese, you'll certainly get it in spades. The pizza is PHENOMENAL yet what makes this place standout is you get more then pizza if you are lucky to call or stop in and talk to Melodie. She will ask you how's your day and she get this REALLY MEANS IT. I came in early one day and witnessed each customer she did want to genuinely bring a SMILE or LAUGH to their face or cha. Ask her about her opinion about fennel or maybe it was oregano in the crust. EITHER WAY you know she cares. She always makes a point to connect with you on a human level. I believe she must take this same care and attention into her dough and high quality ingredients. The pizza is some of the best pizza I have and with lots of varieties to feed your picky vegans to meat monsters... the pizza is so good try the THAI (my fav) but it's not just about the pizza for me. It's a place someone cared to ask and talk beyond the order and I was reminded my day was more then feeding my family all of a sudden, HOW my day was going actually mattered to someone I never met before who shares their love to people by making pizzas. This is a family business so everyone that works there is loved by Melodie so I imagine they are all filled with this same magic too and even if not be kind we are all doing the best we can.
