The miles of paved highway is surrounded with white sugar sand beaches and towering dunes and beautiful water with lots of parking and not so many people at least the day of our visit. I guess this would be considered a barrier island but regardless of its designation it's one of the most beautiful stretch of beaches that I've come across and I've seen plenty - if you're planning a visit be prepared to spend the day the memories you make here will last you a lifetime, there aren't a lot of amenities if you consider the vastness of this place and please pack out everything you pack in this is one of the most pristine pieces of land I've visited and deserves the respect from all that visit. If there is such a thing as a bucket list item this definitely qualifies and if you're lucky enough to be able to spend some time here just do it - it exceeded all my expectations and I hope to return again soon...

We've not explored them and mainly visit for the beaches. Military can receive a free lifetime pass for national parks so the entry fee is waived here. I greatly appreciate. My husband loves to bike here. I love to come and see the Inlet. You can go to the Bayside or you can go to the Oceanside. There's also some older probably early 1900 homes scattered about the property from another iteration of its use. There's also I believe World War I one or World War II bunkers present here so this state Park has had many different lives and leaves quite a legacy. We've driven through the campgrounds which look really nice. And the stretch of golf here is substantial. You could definitely find a place to be all on your own if you were willing to walk. The facilities are nice. There are restrooms but parking can be limited at the beach lots on the gulf side when driving in. It's an extensive park and a very long stretch. The water is incredible. It's turquoise jello on the right days.

It is a beautiful stretch of beach there isn't much out there once you pass Peg Leg Pete's, but some designated areas to park for beach access, on the Gulf of Mexico side. You can see some remnants of the old Fort areas on the sound side, they are restricted areas, it's kinda of eerie, like time has stood still. Not a lot of people use this end of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, there is a unspoiled beauty about it. Untouched beautiful beachside paradise. There is a overnight camp/campground area, within the park, at the end near the Fort. It's a great place to camp while exploring the Gulf Islands National Seashore "Fort Pickens area." We stayed at the campground and it was clean, and the hosts would pick up the trash at every site every morning. We liked that it had full hookups, we expected it to only have electricity and water. We didn't like that our RV campsite was very small and the position where the fence posts were located as well as the grill, that made it even harder to backup with our RV. We stayed on site 2, number 1 and 2 were the smallest ones we saw on our side. If we had known when we booked we had probable looked somewhere else. The bathrooms and showers were ver clean and nice but the building was cold.

Opal beach is by far my most favorite beach in the Pensacola and not as over crowded as some…read moreothers. Opal beach offers two 'entrances' one is free but doesn't have any facilities. The other is part of the file islands national seashore and charges a small entry fee per car. Big plus: military ID card holders enter for free. This one has gazebos, bbq grills and facilities. What I absolutely love is how clean this beach is and the clear blue water. It's a perfect place to chill.

I'm obsessed because they have two, nice large dog parks separated for big and small…read more It's shaded has lots of oak trees with Spanish moss and some seating in the shade. Couldn't be happier. There's also a small water station. Parking right in front and it's a short walk to the sound which has picnic tables and a ton of veins to trail paths throughout the park. Including those fabulous raised boardwalk paths. We walked some of the boardwalk paths recently and so enjoyed the experience. You are above the Bayou and Marshland and have a lovely perspective of the bay and tons of nature. People were trying to spy frogs and snakes and other critters. I imagine there's a lot you can see if you are patient. We love just having the access to it and being able to see the Santa Rosa sound to Pensacola Beach across the way. It's a true highlight of the area. Gulf Breeze does such an amazing job of maintaining its trails. We are really happy it is easily accessible and a well maintained community feature. Have barely scratched the surface of exploring it yet but look forward to seeing more of what it has to offer!

The park is along the bay waters, relatively small with no equipment for kids to play on. It has shade and places to sit. You can watch the boats at dock. It's a quiet place to meditate or just sit, but not a kids centric park. Picnicing is a appealing because of the open spaces and quiet surroundings but there's only a few benches, so bringing a chair or a blanket is a good option for a place to relax any day.
