What a great location and memorial for Veterans! The first thing I noticed when I was parking, was the special purple space reserved for Combat Wounded Veterans. That's awesome! Veterans Memorial Park is adjacent to Admiral Mason Park. They share the 5.5 acres of land. The Veterans Memorial Park pays tribute to the American Revolution, Korean War, WWI, WWII, Marine Aviation, Submarine Vets, Purple Heart, Minuteman, Persian Gulf War, Gold Star Families, and Global War on Terror. They have reserved a spot for the future home for the Military War Dog Memorial. Veterans Memorial Park has been here since 1992. At the main entrance is a flag court with flags from each of the branches of our Military. There's a UH-1 Cobra Helicopter near Wall South. It's placement is visible from the road, but what is really cool is that when you are facing Wall South, the helicopter is high enough that it seems like it is hovering nearby! Wall South is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. This wall has 58,315 names of the dead and missing. There's a lake in the Admiral Mason Park with walking trails and benches. It seems like a great place to hang out at. It was hot out, so I just took a quick look from the Veterans Memorial Park area. Something else to see nearby - just across Bayfront Parkway is Hawkshaw Lagoon Memorial Park, which has a sculpture called "The Sanctuary" by Sam Nettles. This is a National Memorial for Missing Children. Might be worth a little walk across the street to see. Be careful crossing the busy street because cars may not stop even though there is a marked pedestrian walkway. During a recent remembrance of Gold Star families, I visited this impressive memorial park in Pensacola and was both impressed and very moved at this outstanding place of honor and reflection. For over thirty years, The Veterans Memorial Park of Pensacola has been a place of healing, remembrance, learning, and celebration of the lives of America's fallen warfighters, and more. There are 112,000 + annual visitors, 12 monuments, 750+ bricks in the walk of honor. The current memorials are to soldiers from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam War, the Gulf War, local service members lost in the Global War on Terror and the children waiting for their lost parents to return from war, the Revolutionary War, which is an exact replica of the Minuteman Memorial in Concord, MA. and coming soon is the military war dog memorial. Wall South is a black marble half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is also a beautiful memorial honoring the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military. It is also the home of the Marine Aviation Bell Tower, a national memorial to those Marine Aviators lost in service to their country. Memorials to submarines serving life guard missions in WWII, Purple Heart recipients, and more. It also serves as a place for memorial services and other ceremonies for military unit reunions and other civic organizations. I stopped here to appreciate the artworks and memorials and to visit a special name. You see, there's a "me" listed on the Vietnam wall. Well, not me obviously. But there is a KIA who has the same first and last name as me - different middle name and no relation - and every so often this other Bruce K. shows up in my Google search reports. I found him on the wall at the memorial in Washington DC and so I searched for him here on this wall. Thankfully, there is a computer that you can search and it tells you which panel and which line to find the name. Corporal Bruce K. (again, no relation) was killed in action in 1969. It's quite sad and reminds me that I am very fortunate. I found his name on the wall. So if you're in Pensacola, stop by and pay your respects to those who gave their lives in service to our country. This is a great park. I've driven by the helicopter so many times but never realized there was a park behind it. There's a path that traverses the memorials. I lived in DC and this replica makes me feel like I'm back in DC. I'm glad I found this place. read more

I happened to be driving by and noticed this lovely park by the waterfront. There is a designated space for purple heart recipients. It seems to be very well maintained. I did notice a tent; I am assuming an individual who lives on the premises. There is a sense of peace here on a Sunday morning that I can't quite put my finger on where it comes from. Take a moment to reflect on your life and on the meaning of things. We are all living on a blue marble that is so tiny in the grand scheme of things. Take a breath. read more

This is a pretty nice park and seems to be well maintained. It has different memorials to different wars. The park is peaceful and relaxing. You can also walk around the park for a decent work out. This is a very moving exhibit. The way all combat, non combat and cold war service is tied together can be appreciated by veterans, veterans family and Americans as a hole. It is difficult to describe. I felt a part of it yet humbled by those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. There s limited parking, but it is worth the effort to pay respects. read more

Highly recommend this park as a stop while in pensacola. It won't take more than an hour at most but could be done faster. The history and statues that are available are second to none in the area. Do yourself a favor and pay a visit to this piece of history. read more
