Wow, I've been looking for a restaurant like this all my life. Wife had Philly cheese steak omelette. Could not stop raving about it. All the way to the most excellent toast! I had steak and eggs. Steak was cooked right and eggs were perfect. Wife was right about the toast! Hash browns were the bomb, cheese and onion are the way to go! It has come to my attention that I really need to do a review for this cute little delicious place in my hometown. I've been coming to Benson's since I was like 12. It's been a very long time and every time, it's been amazing. This was my first time eating here since they opened dine in from COVID and my first time in awhile, period. I have so many cherished amazing memories here and I am now pregnant and cannot wait for my children to experience it as well and so forth. I got a very simple but delicious egg combo. Two sunny side up eggs, with toast, bacon, cheesy hash browns, and sausage patties. I really do prefer the patties over links like other breakfast joints. My breakfast was devoured and not a single piece was left. Reminded me of my childhood. My husband got the GOTCHA breakfast. It's two biscuits (don't quote me on this since it wasn't mine lol) with your choice of protein (he chose bacon) with hash browns, and gravy. I want to say there was an egg scrambled in there but I'm not sure if he added that on or if it is included in it. I did take a bite or two, and immediately was taken back to school breakfast gravy which I LOVED. I ended up dipping my sausage patties in his extra gravy he had left over. He said his portion was huge for the price and he actually was very full! He was pleasantly satisfied with his breakfast combo. That was his first time ordering it. I wanted to mention the stellar service that has been serving the Fort Smith community for years. Not a single time have I had an issue coming to this establishment since the young age. They are friendly, fast, and attentive. When we did come, there was a 15 minute wait because of limited seating due to COVID but that was okay with us! The staff is always a pleasure to talk with early morning or late in the evening being they are 24 hrs. I will say one down fall well maybe two, the temp will freeze you out so a jacket is needed even at 100 outside and the jukebox can be loud from the workers continuously feeding in quarters to hear music. The food though well its worth the cold and noise. Im not much of a breakfast fan but those that have went with me choice that and said it beats any breakfast around. Poor customer service. We placed an order at the curb. I which they took our number and said they would call when ready. As we waited outside they finished cooking the food, went outside smoked a cigarette, then brought out another order for someone and took their money at the curb. Benson grill. I heard that this is a fort smith landmark. When I first entered, my impression is confusion. Why would fort smith make this place "the" hangout place. It is just like Waffle House with a different name. Actually, their prices are way more than waffle house. So, with some reservation, I got their biggest burger since I was hungry. I do not remember exactly what that name of it. Big mama or something sexist name like that. After tasting it, I understand the name fully. A mama will keep on eating this until she is big. Good thing, I am not a mama, but I will definitely will keep on eating this. This place is definitely not a Waffle House. This is the place if waffle house decided to improve their food 100X, and I am not even saying that Waffle house is not good. So Fort Smith, you have a great taste. The best description I've heard of Benson's Grill is, "typical greasy spoon". That really sums it up. Do you remember the old TV show "Alice"? The show took place in Mel's Diner that was an old truck stop slash diner. This place is exactly like that. My wife and I pulled into the parking lot, which is no mean feet. Seriously, did this parking lot use to fit full sized cars before the road was widened or was it built when Model A Fords were all the rage? It was a fight to get out of the car because the parking spots were so narrow that you couldn't open the door without tipping over the car next to you. After we managed to wedge ourselves out of the car, we headed towards what we thought was the front door. It was hard to tell through the haze of smoke coming from the three or four people sitting on the bench beside the door. There was so much smoke that I thought there must be an exhaust vent from the stove right there, or the whole place was on fire. It was not really the best first impression I've ever gotten from a business. Once inside we looked around and the place looked like something out of the long distant past. I expected to see men in fedoras sipping a hot cup of Joe while reading the racing forms. I expected the counter to filled elbow to elbow with young sailors who were trying to make time with their best girl before their shore leave was over. Instead I saw a whole different group of people. But then again, now that I think about it, those may have been the same people because everyone in there seemed well worn. Now, I'm no spring chicken but the youngest customer in the placed had a solid two decades on me (at least). The menu was pretty straightforward. Just your standard diner fare. My wife had a biscuit and gravy and I had scrambled eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit and gravy. You know, the standard stuff. They were all fine. It's the same food you'd make at home without throwing in any fancy techniques or spices. Listen, if you want home cooking without having to cook at home then this place is fine. If you want gourmet food then you may want to move on down the road. It's as simple as finding a small car, wedging it into the parking lot, taking a deep breath and holding it, running through the cloud of smoke, making your way to a table without bumping another customer and breaking their hip, and enjoying your diner cuisine. read more

I'm late in providing a review of Benson's. I ate there a week to ten days ago. No matter, it was good. One of the cooks regularly loaded the jukebox with country music. Mostly Travis Tritt and Garth Brooks. Right up my alley. I was sitting very close to the jukebox. It was not too loud at all. Had I not enjoyed the music, my opinion/rating might be different. Now, the more important things. I was immediately greeted by a friendly waitress that I can't identify by name. She might have told me. I don't remember. She definitely provided good service during my meal. The burger I had, Don's Big Daddy, was excellent. It's certainly a big burger. I couldn't tell that it was on sourdough bread. It just tasted like regular toast. Maybe all the burger's flavors were just masking the typical sourdough taste. It was good, regardless the bread type. This is an old fashion diner. It's small and the customers and staff all seem to know one another. No doubt, a lot of regulars. You can see the grill and cooks from any seating location. Seating is at a bar with bar stools. Or, small tables for two or four patrons. None are movable. A group of more than four might be lucky enough to get tables across a narrow aisle from one another. This is not really a diner for groups of more than four. Just be mindful before showing up. A dirt lot next door provides more parking than the restaurant can accommodate at once. I will return for breakfast. I think it's available around the clock. The choices looked good. I recommend this restaurant for four or less, tempered by the existence of the jukebox. It could make a difference to some. Service and food are very good. read more

I could have ate here at Benson's everyday during my visit to Arkansas. When we walked in we were instantly greeted and told to sit anywhere. The waitress was very sweet, and we felt very welcomed. The kitchen is right in your face. You can see and smell everything. The restaurant iis small and parking is limited. The menu is pretty basic. Nothing crazy or stand out-ish. Just basic diner food. My husband ordered breakfast and I ordered a burger and fries. The breakfast plate was a pretty good sized portion and my husband had no complaints. He said it reminded him of a home cooked meal. I read so many good reviews about this place and I was excited to try it! Me and my hubby walked in and we were told we had to have masks to be in there but the cook and a lady in the back didn't have masks on. So that wasn't a good first impression. I gave my husband a mask and when she saw that I was pulling mine out she said okay we could sit down, it was like I just had to prove I had one, I didn't even put it on to be seated. I ordered a cheeseburger and chili cheese fries. The burger was good enough but wasn't very flavorful. The chili cheese fries were VERY good and are a meal by themselves. They do come with shredded cheese and I will ask for nacho cheese instead if I go back! My husband ordered the nachos and some Texas toothpicks. The Texas toothpicks were good and the ranch that came with them was delicious, and I am a big ranch snob he said the nachos were alright. LOVE THIS PLACE. My favorite local diner since high-school. It's filled with old-people and hipsters and it's because of what makes it special, the FOOD. Everyone loves classic diner food. Greasy, tasty, and not expensive. My favorite. I'm going to die from eating here too much, but it'll be worth it. The only complaint I could even TRY to swindle in would be that the jukebox is often taken over by country tracks that give me "let's go to calf-fry(how do y'all spell it?), drink a Coors and then rev my truck in the Walmart parking lot while the stressed workers try to leave" vibes.
