First time to visit Charlie's and happy we stopped in. I've been looking for a really good place for fried chicken and my search is over as of today. I picked up a 3 piece mixed chicken with potatoes and gravy,and green beans with a dinner roll and WOW!!!! It all was great. Im totally going to try their other items soon. Charlie's is my favorite restaurant in town and has been my whole life. But, feeding stray cats in the parking lot right next to the (open) back door and supply building is unacceptable and disgusting. The workers there are amazing and most have been there a really long time, they should know better. read more

The service is okay. The food sits in the buffet too long. If you go when they first open it is good.

Super friendly, family owned small business. We arrived after the buffet had closed, unfortunately. But we were still able to order ala carte/meals. We had beef ribs - awesome - and chopped brisket- also awesome. The baked beans were stellar. The mashed potatoes with country gravy were also excellent. Your not in Texas anymore.. lower your expectations. I was disappointed. The drive thru lady is rude and in a hurry. The pulled pork was dry and had a minimal rub flavor with strong smoke flavor. The serving side containers are a joke. My 12 year old nearly cried because it was only 4 bites! See photo. Nothing tasted great. Corn, potato wedges,Mac cheese, ribs and pulled pork sandwich. Holy cow! Southern bbq buffet at its finest and for only $7.49!! Meatloaf, bbq smoked chicken (my fav), gizzards, chicken livers, mashed potatoes, green beans, okra, 2 types of beans, 2 type of gravy, zucchini, broccoli salad, corn, mac n cheese, nice salad bar, rolls, and if you wanted banana pudding and ice cream w strawberries. I can't say enough great things about Charlie's Chicken! I was traveling back from Arizona on my way home to North Carolina and we stopped off the beaten path to find somewhere to eat. We asked a store owner where a good place to eat was and they told us best place in town was here and we are so happy we listened. The food was great but the people were even better. They had a buffet going on with salad, desert, and whole course meal going on. Vegetables, mashed potatoes, ribs, baked chicken, fried chicken, and so much more. The staff made us feel like we were family, come to find out a staff member there had family where we were from and we knew that family member. Small world! The BBQ was excellent. The menu has a broad variety of items from fried chicken to barbecued beef with a long list of sides. I got the chopped barbecue dinner with fried okra and potato salad. It came with toasted bread and a bottle of extra sauce. We also ordered the fried chicken which was tasty and several sliced beef sandwiches. The cashier was very helpful when placing our orders and all of the staff were very hospitable and took care of all our needs. They had a buffet with a variety of meats which looked good, but we did not try it. It was definitely worth the stop with great food and service! read more

Delicious BBQ and Chicken is always a yes from us. Finding great food in a small town is always such a welcoming surprise. Staff is friendly and food is delicious and everything you want in your mouth. Chicken chunks are delicious and not over breaded and the fries I have an addition to, perfect crunchy and thin which I love. We were about 1/2 way through a 9 hour drive and were looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't too far off I-40. The wife found Charlie's on an internet search and we're really glad she did. We had initially planned to get a sandwich, but one look at the buffet convinced us to go that route. Charlie's has an excellent buffet at a reasonable price. I had ribs, fried chicken, breaded zuchinni, okra, potato salad, and a few more items. Everything was very tasty. I finished off with a blackberry cobbler. The buffet had many choices and was continually monitored by two ladies who kept everything ready to go. This is a great family owned small business that I intend to visit each time I'm in the area. This restaurant was such a nice surprise. I'd never been to Sallisaw before and was in town for a meeting. I saw all the cars in line for the drive-through at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and thought this must be a good place. Went in and was immediately offered a Buffet which was about eight bucks and it was fantastic. The chicken was delicious and the sides were terrific. Great food! Great service. I stopped here for dinner based on the recommendations for the fried chicken, and I was not disappointed. The fried chicken is very good, I would rate it a little above a typical fast food chicken place like KFC or Churches. The Apple cobbler was phenomenal for dessert, and quite a surprise. The sliced tomatoes on the salad bar were also amazing, definitely homegrown and perfectly ripe. That was also unexpected. The fried okra did not taste especially fresh, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were just OK. Green beans were decent, spinach was not good. Overall definitely a place worth stopping for. There were many other choices on the buffet I did not try. Wish I had brought my own lemon pepper seasoning for the delicious homegrown tomatoes! Price is very reasonable. We stopped here on our way to Asheville. The chicken chunks were wonderful, very moist, and the ribs were meaty and fall off the bone tender. They give good-sized portions as well. For sides we had fried okra, coleslaw, potato wedges, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Everyone in our group loved everything we were served! DH and I stopped here for lunch because I was craving BBQ. They have a buffet every day which looked good, but we chose the smoked meat. DH had the sliced beef and asked for the spiciest BBQ sauce they had. Lo and behold the lady pulled out a bottle of homemade Carolina reaper sauce! He said it was great. (I just had their regular sauce and it was good). They also had a sweet and spicy sauce, but neither of us like sweet. Sides were good, especially the fried okra. Prices are modest. Hot fresh and fast. I was impressed by the variety of food they served as well as the speed. It may have been the owner behind the counter, but everything was moving like a well oiled clock. My husband and I forgot that it was our anniversary, so I ran into town to get takeout dinner. We're glad we made the choice and will be back. This place is CLEAN, when we were there the teenagers were cleaning the whole place tables, table legs, floor, windows, bathroom. When we visited the food in the buffet was old and picked clean. We managed but a buffet should never be like this. My kids grabbed the chicken and ate it up. Great buffet, not all charlies have buffets....their buffet is wonderful-years ago (from BAD experiences)...I stopped eating at buffets-tried the sallisaw, ok. Buffet tonight.....it was FISH NIGHT white lightly breaded filleted fish with all white meat....none of the gray oily meat.....plus many, many more items. Stopped by on our way through from Texas to Ohio. Chicken chunks were fabulous. We got ours to-go, but there was a really good looking buffet, with all-you-can-eat ribs. We got the chunks, baked beans, fried okra, potato wedges, mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes. The baked beans were spectacular with big chunks of bacon in them - very bbq'eey. The regular BBQ sauce was also really good. Only let down were the mashed potatoes, which were clearly instant. But we were too full to eat them anyway! Employees were super helpful to this clueless out-of-owner. Worth the short 1 mile drive off the highway! Made a note to stop here again if we're ever in the area. read more
