OMG, if you are ever in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and have a taste for a bite late night or anytime for that matter, make sure that you stop by this hidden gem in town. A few of my family members and I happened to stop here on Christmas Eve (well after midnight) Christmas morning and decided to go here since it was centrally located to where I was staying as opposed to going across town to go to Denny's. We walked in and it was pretty full but were able to get seated immediately. It reminds you of a good old mom and pop diner, so it's not a really big place. They even have bar space for those who want to sit at the counter. I ended up ordering the Sweet Potato Pancakes as recommended by our waiter and the menu stated it was a Southern Delicacy, so I thought why not give it a try. Best decision ever!! These pancakes were so yummy and flavorful that I don't think that I could ever desire a plain pancake again. It totally changed my taste for them. lol. Seriously, they are good. I peeped over at some other people's orders and the omelettes looked good, the ham was a ham steak, so you get your money's worth. Our server was so friendly, in fact the whole staff was. Disgusting....not a pleasant experience. The staff was rude. The food had grease dripping from the basket. The ketchup container was covered in grease. They have tables blocked and try to hurry people out so they can seat another customer (I know they have to make tips, but this was uncalled for). The food was not good. I loved this small diner. It is also really cool how you can see everything as well... You can watch them cook it, the waitress get people's drinks. Some people dont like that. As for my rating of the food... I had a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. AMAZING. The only one better I have had was at Iron Horse BBQ is Paragould (check out that review). This is my second favorite! Parking is tight- parallel is not my gig. But the atmosphere on the inside was great- somewhat sarcastic, but fun and interactive waitresses. The service for this place gets 5 stars. I work late shifts and this place is sometimes the only place open in my immediate neighborhood when I get off work. No matter what time of day or night, the staff is great. The food is basically greasy spoon diner food. Good food when it's what you're in the mood for, but it's still diner food. I will say it's leaps and bounds above Waffle House. I debated between 3 and 4 stars, and decided on 4 based on the service and the fact that they serve pretty big portions for the low price. I enjoy the nachos, chili cheese fries, or philly cheese steak sandwich. If you're feeling breakfast food, I hear the omelets are quite good. read more

I have been a customer for over 20 years! Customer loyalty means nothing at Benson's. I gave up eating here for 4 months, then came back to no improvement. I have tried three times since I returned, and all three times they have messed up my food to the point I have walked out without eating, and paid my bill before I left. I just wish I could get the food I pay for. It does no good to complain to the management or owner. I know them and have tried! I have a cousin with a severe allergy to all beef and pork products. There are very few places she can eat. Very few places will even try to fix her food. Bensons is not one of those. The staff is good at accommodating her allergies. They are very careful when preparing her food from start to finish. It doesn't matter if they are super busy or very slow. We meet at least twice week here. I know she comes to eat more than that. Her normal order is the #2. It's eggs, hash browns, and toast. I usually order the #3. It is eggs, bacon or sausage, and toast. I would give Bensons a higher rating if I could. read more

Don't expect anything fancy and don't go looking for frills because Benson's has nether. However, what you can expect is in your face, no messing around, straight up diner food. Plain, simple and always good. The biscuits and gravy always hits a home run and their toast (a diner staple) is consistently cook to perfection. I recently tried Benson's Grill again after a very long time between visits. I went in with low expectations after previously being disappointed in past visits but with the closing of another popular breakfast restaurant in the lower Rogers Avenue area, there aren't many options besides fast food, as far as breakfast, so I decided to give Benson's another try. I had a Philly Cheesteak omelette, hashbrowns, country ham, toast, and of course coffee. The omelette was very good and a good size, the ham while a thin slice, was good as well. The hashbrowns came smothered with cheese and onions and quite a large portion. The cheese made the hashbrowns soft and gooey and that was really the only downside to the meal. The staff was friendly and seemed to know most of the patrons who I assume are all regulars. A very eclectic mix of patrons The place is small and very crowded when busy. The grill is behind the lunch counter and has a Waffle House feel to it which isn't always a plus in my opinion. The place seems to have gone through some remodeling/cleaning since I was last in. The menu is standard with a few house specialty sandwiches/burgers. Benson's Grill may never amount to much more than above a dive restaurant and it seems to sort of relish it's rep as being a funky greasy spoon. My experience while nothing spectacular, didn't leave me disappointed and I will probably come in again for breakfast when I am in the downtown area. read more

Its kind of at an inconvenient location, its cramped inside, there are hardly ever seats readily available......but its literally THE BEST diner in FS. Even with all the faults Fort Smith seems to flock to this place like its some sort of cult following. Never once have I ever had a bad experience here. And never once have I ever eaten something there that I did not like (But I recommend the Cyclops Burger with the egg over easy) The prices are right. The staff is super friendly (Especially "Vince The Waiter") and they are ALWAYS open......I mean ALWAYS. So if you are out late one night.......Dont go to Dennys.....Dont go to IHOP......Dont go to Waffle House.......Go to Bensons. read more

I read the reviews of everyone raving about this place so my boyfriend and I stopped for breakfast while on a road trip. I'm not sure what all the hype is about. It was quite mediocre as far as the food goes. We thought we would be having a life-changing experience based off of the reviews I read but that was definitely not the case. While I was there, there were seven different ppl that came in to pick up orders that they ordered over the phone. It was very crowded and I went on a Monday morning at about 10:00AM. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and a side of grits. OMG. It was horrible. The first thing I tasted was the hashbrowns. All I could taste was grease and there was no brown about the hashbrowns. They were under cooked, not crispy or had any crunch. The bacon was also greasy like it had been sitting awhile. The eggs were so over cooked, they were brown. One bite of the grits was all I could handle. Instant grits from a dinner that serves breakfast all day??? I noticed that they use a microwave quite a bit t warm up biscuits, etc. And, the place is filthy. I have had "intestinal" issues all day. I recommend you go somewhere else. read more
