This is a really beautiful park with a lot of history. There are somewhat secluded running and walking trails (not very long in distance, though). There are plenty of ponds, benches, pavilions, a playground for kids, and my favorites: history and old buildings from the original animal park that was there before it shut down and a 9/11 memorial including a beam from one of the Twin Towers. Definitely something to check out for a small history lesson and a beautiful walk.

People forty and older will remember this park as the site of Benson's Wild Animal Farm, which was open from 1926 to 1989. It was a great local cultural and entertainment attraction, a close second to Canobie Lake Park. Changing social trends causes attendance to drop throughout the 80s, and the park's closure was a loss to the community. For many years the abandoned lands of this park were left to the ravages of weather, and vandals. But a few years ago volunteers from around the community came together to improve the grounds, fix the trails, and rebuild and stabilize the remaining buildings. Now this park is the crown jewel of Hudson's Park system with miles of beautiful, maintained trails, well maintained flower plantings, a small brook, a lake that one can fish in, and a gorgeous new playground for kids of all ages.

Dog park: gravel, dirt, old asphalt very little grass. Worst dog park I've ever seen. Seems like someone found the ugliest land in Benson's and put a fence around it and called it a dog park.

Went here as a kid when the animals were there. So good to see the place getting fixed up into a place all can enjoy!

There are good aspects of this park, but they're outweighed by the bad…read more There is a large field area followed by a wooded area. There are drainage problems that cause a significant portion of the wooded area to be flooded for several months of the year. This area is just inside the wooded area, so it's easily accessible from both the wooded and grassy areas. When it's flooded, the dogs get wet and stinky. Oftentimes it's not flooded so much as it is a big mud puddle - irresistible to many dogs! Only go to the park when you have time for a bath afterwards - for both you and your dog! The rules are a bit ridiculous and are strictly enforced. For example, I got told off by a Board member because my teenager was throwing the ball for our two dogs. The rules state that children must be within arm's reach (under 12 not permitted, se we're talking 12-18-year-olds) and must not have their arms above their head. These are the relevant rules from the website: - Must be 18 years of age or older and remain within the park, with their dog(s), at all times. - Must closely supervise children under 18 years of age; and must be within reach of the child at all times. They are responsible for the actions and safety of children in their care. Children must not be permitted to run, shout, scream wave their arms and/or otherwise excite and/or antagonize dogs in the park. - Children under 12 years of age are not permitted inside the dog park. (Effective January 1, 2020) If your dog doesn't want to leave, you can't simply leash him to walk him out of the park. If you leash him BEFORE you get him into the gated "holding area" near the front gate, you will be reprimanded. Unfortunately, this is a "members only" club and you don't find any of this out for yourself until you spend $125 for your membership. Not worth the fee! Go to one of the free dog parks in the area, or wait a decade or two until this park gets in a new Board of Directors that votes to implement and enforce more reasonable rules and spend the park's money on things such as fixing drainage issues instead of planting "better" grass - which then requires regular chemical treatments.
