At first I wasn't sure if I should trust it or not since they're not one of the traditional online retailers that I've heard of but then I saw their website looked legit so I decided to order from them. Their prices are really good! I was just planning to buy wheels, but I also ended up buying laces and a skate wrench. I put in my order November 16 at night and I received my package on November 19 in the afternoon! I did not expect it to be that fast so I was very pleasantly surprised. Don't buy anything online!!! I placed an order online and didn't realize I was never given a shipping estimate. Figured I'd receive my helmet in 2 weeks tops. After a week with no shipping or tracking info update, I emailed them to see if the item I ordered was out of stock and was sent a FAQs page, which stated that my helmet won't get to me for about a MONTH (takes 14-21 days to be PROCESSED, not received, processed). They offer curbside pickup, but not sure if that'd still be subject to the month-long processing time.... If the delivery time is a month and you're going to charge a cancellation fee once someone realizes even if the order hasn't been processed yet, you should disclose this on the order pages before someone places an order. I shouldn't have to dig for a tiny font link to a FAQ page. Really wish I had ordered elsewhere. I'm hoping my helmet comes sooner so I don't miss out on the last of the warm weather of the year. After just reading another person's experience with online orders with Bruised B., I'm considering just cancelling and taking the fee hit, since there is a possibility that the color and helmet style I want could be out of stock and they just haven't gotten around to realizing and notifying me. read more

Second time I have ordered from here via their website. Both times have been disappointing. First order about a year ago resulted in a delay and not the getting color that we ordered. Item was shown in stock on their website and days later got an email saying it was out of stock. Had to settle for something that I really didn't like the look of (but was a good skate). Marked this up to a glitch. Second time shopping... Basically a repeat of the last purchase. Ordered something, four days later an email saying the item was out of stock and an offer for a substitute of a slightly different item, but not what we were looking for. We were offered apologies and explanations about how hard it is to manage their store. Still didn't get exactly what we ordered. After reading another review and my own experience, I now see that they just can't manage online sales. Rather frustrating for me in this day and age where you can set up an online store that includes a point of sale app that can manage in store point of sale plus all inventory seamlessly. I can't say enough about their customer service! They helped me get jack boots in the middle of a skate shortage and just in time for Christmas . They were super kind every time I called and gave me updates and anytime I emailed they were quick to respond. Shipping updates, order updates, helped with mounting the whole 9 yards!!! There's just something to be said for a company that accommodates special requests like drilling a boot for self mounting even though it's not on the menu so to speak. This is not your mother's roller derby store. Well, I suppose it could be if your mom has a strong do-it-yourself, athletic, punk, third-wave feminist aesthetic. In case you didn't know, there has been a re-birth of roller derby in America and both eastern Massachusetts and southern NH have some very friendly teams that welcome new skaters (NHRD and CMRD). If you want to learn, you can't use your old white quad skates for long or in-line skates at all. You'll need some new gear. Bruised Boutique has a good selection of pads, skates, helmets, skater swag and tutus too. It also has good prices and is skater owned. I ordered a derby starter kit from Bruised Boutique three weeks ago. I was hoping to have it as soon as possible. Now, I'm not getting my kit at all, thanks to the Bruised Boutique. They keep you completely out of the loop on their processes, making things very difficult. They did not inform me that one item of my order was not in stock. They did not inform me that they would be back-ordering it, adding a huge wait to my order. They did not let me know when the items came in. They did not tell me how their billing process worked, causing a massive headache for me. Now I'm not getting the starter kit at all. You should never be left in the dark this badly as a customer. I will be ordering my skates and supplies from somewhere else from now on, and I'll be sure to tell any other girls getting into roller derby to do the same. read more

I have gotten outstanding customer service every time I've shopped at Bruised Boutique. Their selection is excellent, and everyone who works at this shop is very friendly and helpful. A++++++++++ times infinity to infinity. What strikes me the most about this shop is the way they never up-sell customers. I've seen plenty of "freshmeat" skaters in the store asking for top-of-the-line skates before they've even been to their first derby practice. I have never seen the staff take advantage of this, and they often recommend different starter packages that are a better fit for people who are new to the sport. I feel that this is evidence that the staff at Bruised Boutique have integrity and class. Hooray for honest businesses! I highly recommend Bruised Boutique. I went here to get my starter derby gear, and couldn't be happier with the experience. Chuck walked me through everything. There wasn't a question I asked she couldn't answer, and since she's a skater herself she could give both personal and professional advice on gear. Wheels, plates, bearings, boots, mouthguards... she had great advice and information on everything I asked about. Chuck helped me figure out what to invest in and what to upgrade later. If you are looking to get into derby and don't know exactly what you want or need, make the trip to Bruised. You'll get expert advice and gear that's suited to you, and fitted correctly. It's not that bad of a hike from Boston! Had I ordered things online, I would have made several mistakes (I would have gotten the wrong size skates, I would never have dreamed that I was a size "junior" in elbow pads, etc etc etc). Amazing customer service! My partner and I are getting into skating and even after spending hours researching on Google, still only had a basic idea of what would work for our needs/wants. I ordered a pair of skates off of Bruised Boutique's web site and called the following day to ask for a rough ETA (the style is sold out most places so I wasn't sure if they were backordered). I spoke with V.A. and was thrilled to hear that not only were they in stock, but V.A. was so kind- she took the time to understand what I wanted, helped me figure out which wheels would be right and is even changing the bearings so my newbie self doesn't have to fall into a rathole trying to figure it out. I went from "I think these cute skates will work" to feeling 100% confident that I'm getting what I want AND when we called later that day, one of the other associates was kind enough to do a similar assessment for my partner to ensure that he got the perfect skates, too! BUYER BEWARE!! if I could rate lower I could. I drive two hours from Maine with my fiancé to purchase a very expensive pair of new skates for roller derby. She had a good idea of what boot and plates she wanted and they had them in stock; but when it came down to the size she was unsure. They had her try a half size smaller than she asked for initially because they had already had it mounted with the plates she was interested in before we got there. When my fiancé was explaining to them that she thought they might be a little snug they said "Oh that's how you want it, touching front to back". My fiancé not being super experienced went with their suggestion as they must know what they're talking about and went with the smaller size. Here we are just after 1 week she is experiencing a lot of pain and toe cramping because of how small the boots are after practical use. I recommended calling to do an exchange on the boot expecting some sort of restocking or mounting fee, however they unsympathetically denied any sort of solution except for telling her to sell them or buy a new pair. WOW! No service after the sale, no solution, just a "thanks for your money" experience. That's about $700 down the drain and she can't use the skates she paid for. Thanks a lot! read more

I'm in my sixth season of playing roller derby and the community, products, and market as a whole have changed and grown exponentially in a few short years. The process of buying equipment before was a hassle to figure out sizing, availability, features, etc. Having a local derby store has made this so much better! 1. Its the *only* brick and mortar roller derby store in all of New England. I absolutely hate buying things on the internet (inorite?) because I'm into the tactile experience of shopping, which the internet hasn't replaced yet. (Plus I hate the whole waiting for shipping which inevitably results in my package being sent all over the place while I obsessively check the tracking history. UGH.) I'm sure she likes this too, because I wouldn't give her half as much money if I wasn't able to buy things in person. 2. Not the least bit salesy, sketchy, or condescending. They are not going to push a product on you that you don't need or convince you to spend that extra $50. Instead, they'll present you with options that meet your needs. They'll answer every little question you have with a sincere smile on her face. 3. They have the little things. They have the Suregrip super cushions for my (awesome) DA 45 plates that look like gummy candies, and boxes of nuts, and a bajillion types of tiny equipment bits. You know, things you never think about until its an emergency but if it weren't for a local derby store, you'd be waiting a few days for shipping. 4. New Hampshire = no tax! 5. Derby owned. Dee Stortion, the owner, is for real! She's not someone taking advantage of the resurgence of derby with no connection to it. She wanted to play roller derby so she founded New Hampshire Roller Derby. She saw that New England needed a derby store, so she opened one. 6. The store is really cute. 7. The prices are totally reasonable and competitive. Factor in not having to pay or wait for shipping (if you're local), and no tax and that's a pretty good deal! Ultimately, I've always had great experiences at Bruised Boutique. I like the lay out of the store, the atmosphere is inviting and fun, the prices reasonable, and the customer service is awesome. No need for anything less than 5 stars. Bruised Boutique is good old fashioned customer service at its finest! My first order was in Spring '11: I had passed my assessments wearing awful sports authority skates a size too big (ouch) and was finally ready to get "REAL" skates. After reading about a million forum posts and reviews I decided to order from Bruised online. I selected a boot not that many people enjoy (Riedell 795s) but that I was sure was going to fit my super-narrow feet. They do fit and were great, but it did take while to get them... (because they were being back ordered from the factory in the Midwest or wherevs but I did not know this at the time). I also ordered some other miscellaneous items socks, wrist-guards etc. I received the bulk of my order within a week minus the skates. Confused, I emailed to ask them when the skates would be coming in as I had my very first real scrimmage coming up and I didn't want to have to wear my Bozo-skates. The employee (who is also the owner) explained what was going on with my order and said she would do the best she could to expedite the process which would have ordinarily taken 4 weeks (YIKES). They ended up being drop shipped (at Bruised's cost I assume) right to my door within the week. Friggin' Lifesavers! *I notice a reviewer mentioned they changed their menu to display which skates are on back-order at the time of selection...good idea. Another good experience: I had been skating a season and was ready to upgrade my wheels/cushions but wasn't sure where to start. I brought my skates into the shop and the shop clerk said she could help me out. I had it in my head that I wanted these expensive $120 aluminum hub wheels. She noted what I was looking for in the performance of the wheel and suggested instead a less expensive, lightweight, non-aluminum hubbed wheel. (I love when salespeople don't upsell the crap out of you). She also gave me advice on wheel arrangement, cushions and loosening my trucks. Then when I'd decided what to buy, she threw all my new digs on my skates so that I was good to go when I left the shop! This was great because I'm a total n00b when it comes to disassembling my skates. It was a good call on the wheels/cushions too, my skates feel so much better! More good customer service: Once they accidentally overcharged me. I bought two items the same, but on one the UPC sticker was incorrect. I took a pic with my phone and sent them a copy of this and the receipt and they quickly corrected my bill and mailed me out a gift card. They even emailed me the code to the gift card that I could redeem online immediately :) What more could you ask for than that?! read more

I have done a lot of shopping over the internet for my wifes gear. Was pretty happy with the results until I found out exactly what customer service is. This store, which happened to be local to me also, has the most amazing staff hands down. They are always willing to stop whatever they are doing to to help with my decisions. I do not play yet I can easily walk out of their with purchases for my wife knowing it is exactly what she will need. I came here to get some starter gear & the staff was VERY helpful; I honestly cannot speak highly enough of them. This review is for mail order as I am not lucky enough to live nearby (although apparently this is the closest kind of store to me). They have EVERYTHING, and their description of the skates is honest and matches what experienced skaters have told me (I was a total bambi beginner and got the R3s, they are very direct that these are not long-term skates but starters that might last a year for people who don't want to make a big investment). They've been backordered on something every time I ordered (the stock is so huge that I don't think that they take colors/sizes that are out of stock off the drop-down menu) but I have always gotten a prompt message asking me if I want to sub the item, drop the item, or wait. I noticed a negative comment about this; it seems they have tightened up and learned from that mistake. Plus if you ask they will draw anything on your UPS box. read more

The owner, Dee (a Boston Derby Dame), was incredible in helping me explore my options, and listened to what my specific needs and price limits were. She measured my foot and let me wear two different sizes for as long as I wanted in order to ensure a good fit. I switched back and forth for about an hour until I made my decision. I ended up putting in an order for what I am sure will be the perfect skate for me. Dee is exceptionally knowledgeable about equipment and seems to have an amazing talent for putting together a skate package that meets your needs and budget, however specific they may be. I am a fairly new skater, and she never once tried to upsell me; she even recommended that I go with a more modestly priced plate which I can upgrade as I start skating more aggressively. The shop is a ton of fun (socks, outfits, sparkly things, gifts for derby girls) and stopping in is a MUST for derby lovers, whether you are looking for something specific or just want to browse this awesome gem of a store. Prices are comparable to ordering from huge distributors, and the customer service/shopping experience is excellent. I have also ordered wheels from them online and they were prompt and communicated well throughout the process. This is about as "By Derby for Derby" as it gets. In short, I love Bruised! read more

The toe caps I ordered don't fit my skates, but returning them was a breeze. Both times I have called for advice I was very happy with the service. Chuck and the owner's sister (I didn't catch her name) were ridiculously knowledgeable in everything regarding roller skates. My friend, her six year old and I walked into Bruised Boutique today with plans to start our new great idea: roller skating. We, meaning my friend, researched the crap out of the topic and after floundering with all the information available on the web, came to the realization that Bruised Boutique are the experts on the subject. So glad we came! Chuck outfitted us with brand new skates, wheels, bearings and safety equipment. She explained the pros and cons of every type of equipment and took our experience and usage into consideration. Safety first: She recommended and hooked us up with wrist guards and helmets (scored on discount); also on sale were tons of cute derby apparel (which if we were ready for derby would be our first choice!).
