I have used Bent On Cooking to cater a number of events for a networking group that I run. The staff was professional, the service was timely, and the food was amazing. The event size was about 100 people, but based on their staff and level of organization, they would be my first call for our 500+ attendee events as well. As an example of their awesome service, the first thing they did with me was discuss food options, food themes, and a general budget guideline, which I appreciated. I hate how past caterers would bait and switch with great food options and hide the price. Rosie was up-front with us from the very get-go. The food options were really "high-end" for the price as well. They arrived early to set up and prep before before the guests arrived. The food was stored hot/cold until guests arrived, and we all ate a warm meal. The meat was high quality, and the cooking was divine. After many go arounds Rosie realized that she was not going to be able to accommodate me. We were within the cancellation period she could've rightfully kept 25% of the deposit. This review is based on what I saw and tasted the other evening at a dinner for the 10th anniversary for the Witch Creek Fire victims. There were at least 150 attendees. Rosie (owner of Bent on Cooking) had a crew of five wonderful women (included Rosie) that were friendly and helpful through out the event. The buffet table was organized and the servers a delight. Rosie and another woman worked on replenishing items for the servers and were spot on. The line never stopped. The food was delicious...Tri-Tip with Barbeque sauce and Chicken Piccata were the main entrees. So good!!!! Meat was tender and the roasted potatoes were yummy too. Whoever hired Bent on Cooking, knew what they were doing. Rosie knows how to cook, coordinate and who to hire. Wonderful event and I will use her in the future. read more

I'm fairly new to the foodie scene, and even newer to the art of cooking the delicious cuisine I crave. It's fair to say that I'm lacking some of the basic skills of the trained culinary professional. For my birthday my husband bought me two sessions with Rosie where she'd teach me some of the techniques used by a professional chef (kudos to my husband for a fantastic gift!). I've only used one so far and it was a truly a wonderful experience! For that session I chose a couple of proteins that I found intimidating and Rosie helped me to create a lovely menu featuring those proteins. She then walked me through the step-by-step preparation of each dish. Her approach was professional and unarming, for me it really took the fear out of cooking. The food (I prepared) turned out so delicious (and was unbelievably easy) that I've had no problem recreating the recipes on my own. In fact since that first session I've gained such confidence in my cooking that I've tried loads of new recipes on my own. For my next session, I'll take the few recipes that I believe turned out less than perfect and have Rosie work with me to prefect them. Thanks again Rosie! read more

I found Rosie via Yelp when I was in search of a caterer for my November 7th, 2015 wedding. From beginning to end, Rosie was always very helpful and knowledgeable regarding wedding-catering. The tasting was in her home, waiter and all. It was very classy and well-thought out. We also decided to trust Rosie's recommendation, and go with her cake lady. This recommendation is the only reason why I cannot give Rosie the full five-stars. The cake was a DISASTER, but that was not Rosie's fault, and she did rectify it by giving me a refund. My mom and I did the two hour cooking class with Rosie last Friday afternoon. We had so much fun and learned some great new techniques and tricks. We made 3 delicious recipes that I can't wait to serve at my next book club meeting or party. I thought Rosie was funny and upbeat. She is to the point on giving you advice on how to do things and what to use. Maybe some people are too sensitive and take offense. She also works fast which is great because you get a lot out of just a two hour class. She also showed us a ton of tricks and ideas to use for safety in the kitchen. I emailed her with my choices of recipes and dates and she was very accommodating. We picked the Shrimp Skewers w/ Coconut Cilantro Dipping Sauce, Cilantro Lime Chicken with Avocado Salsa and the Stuffed Peppers. She was very helpful with recipe choices as I don't eat red meat. This was the WORST catering experience I've ever had. Not only was the staff rude and pushy, they asked us to hurry up with birthday cake so they could leave. Never felt so pressured to celebrate with such time restrictions. The owner tried to fix the frosting on the cake with her finger, licked it and then continued to fix cake with same finger. They all helped themselves to the appetizers before any guests arrived. Totally and utterly 100% UNPROFESSIONAL. The food was bland and cold. Horrible. Don't waste your money. read more

This woman was a complete condescending bitch. I went to my friends house who bought a coupon for her services for $80 (which by the way did not include the price of food). It was supposed to be a 2 hour fun and entertaining cooking class. Instead it was 60 minutes with a woman who all she did was read off a recipe that she printed off the internet while insulting my friend and myself. She LITERALLY did not teach us ONE blessed thing about cooking. She arrived and within 2 minutes expressed that she was in a rush. She complained about my girlfriends dog. Who was actually really well behaved. She made snide comments about my friends chopping technique, her dish sponge and the fact that I didn't cook for my husband on a normal basis. I would not recommend using her services. I am a local event planner and deal with providers of service on a daily basis and I have never experienced such unprofessional, borderline aggressive customer service in my life. I really dislike writing negative reviews, but I was duped by all the five star reviews of this "service," and since something positive needs to come out of this experience I can at least serve as a warning to other Yelp readers. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my own home. I was hoping Chef Rosie would be a sweet, fun, lady that taught lots of good shortcuts, gave tips and recommendations, but what showed up at the door was a scornful, rude Rosie O'Donnell that read a recipe to us. In fairness, I should preface this with a little background (as Rosie may have been in hyper-drive defensive/awkward mode); some months prior to the day of the class, she demanded I send her the Groupon/Expedia (can't remember which it was) so that she could get paid. I questioned pre-payment for a service that had not yet been rendered, and she was adamant about not letting me book the class (which I'd already paid the website for) until she received her payment. I was so nervous for this woman to come over because I knew something was just off about her, and sure enough, among her other off-color comments, when asked if she'd done well with the Groupons, she responded - "I've made a lot of money off of them. People usually buy them and don't use them, so it works for me!" Well Yelpers, my advice- if you've already purchased your service with Rosie, I suggest cutting your losses. You've already lost your money, don't let her ruin your evening, you can just as easily read a recipe without that weird energy up in your kitchen. Do I have to give this lady a star? WORST experience EVER. The first time I called her to schedule an appointment, she got my email address and sent me a whole list of paperwork to fill out without explaining a THING. I was so lost. I tried e-mailing about some questions and she was not responsive. When I asked her about using 2 of the Groupon vouchers on the same night for 4 people, her response was "I generally find that groups of 4 are really boring". Are you kidding me - boring? But I tried again, called her back, and she was SO RUDE and disrespectful on the phone. She yelled at me for "missing the boat" and having a "year to schedule your GroupON" and "It's entirely your fault and not my problem". What kind of customer service is that? You think that, I am going to pay another $150 to schedule a cooking class with you? HA! Reading the reviews about how she is even worse in person makes me feel better. This woman is the most scornful bitch i have ever encountered. She refused to be pleasant and nice, or even complete a full decent cooking lesson. Instead she recited a printed out recipe, and was in-compassionate, while teaching us the techniques necessary in these recipes. Me and my husband acquired her service paying the full $200, though we should have received a full refund after being walked out on in the first 15 minutes. She obviously was not experienced mother, hence her not being able to teach or have patience, she was also clearly not a spouse, proving this by being inpatient and uncooperative. I just wish that i had never used her service. This was my husbands and I 5th year anniversary and all we wanted was to have a calm celebration enjoying something we both love... cooking. Yet she had ruined this for the both of us. If the art of cooking had wrists... she would make it want to slit them. I recommend refusing the service and informing your family and friends of her insanity, and bitchiness. I hope she one day learns to stop being this way. quite surprised to read the negative reviews. but, my only connection with Rosie Bent is as an attendee in one of her Oasis classes, and i found her funny, charming, and quite informative on foods. she was able to keep up a steady stream of funny banter while whipping up three salads which were actually quite good: a raddicio/endive, a chicken salad, and a deelish dessert with pound cake, strawberry and rhubarb. the samples (for a large class of 30 or more) were generous; i thought the atmosphere of the class was very good; she answered all our questions as honestly as she could, and in general gave us all a very nice experience. yes, i would take another class from her. read more
