Yummy and affordable! Love the fried fish bento which comes with mapo tofu, green beans, and a marinated egg. I was really impressed with the batter of the fish, light while crispy. All sides were well flavoured and served on a bed of fluffy short grain rice. All this for $10-14 and you will def leave full and satisfied. Came for lunch with a coworker. Many captivating options I'd like to return to try. This time I got the Taiwanese sausage rice. Comes with an egg, broccoli, cabbages, and a good sausage to rice ratio! For $13 I think it was reasonably price considering the portion. It turns out the Bento comes with a drink (maybe for an extra $1) but I only found out after ordering and paying - wish this was more clear on the menu. Overall the lady at the counter was super friendly and accommodated to our requests despite the language barrier. We opted to dine in as they have self serve seating and a good amount of seats available despite most customers being take out focused. Get their popcorn chicken! First got introduced to Bento 886 when someone got their tray of popcorn chicken for a holiday pot luck. I was obsessed with their popcorn chicken then and there. I found myself going back to their store myself to get a popcorn chicken bento box that came with rice and some sides. I think the complimentary sides of cabbage are okay, not the highlight of the bento box at all. But the popcorn chicken is the real star here and would get this for parties and a quick meal again. This small dine-in and take-out spot has a fantastic range of casual Taiwanese bento boxes, drinks and snacks. I got take-out with 4 other friends last weekend, and the food was really really good! Definitely want to return and try more! The popcorn chicken, fried mochi balls (taro and sweet potato) and deep fried fish cake, and Lu Rou rice were all terrific. Only downside is the plastic cups for take-out drinks -- the plastic is really thin, and when the drink fell sideways on the car ride home, the cup BROKE apart and spilled everywhere! It wasn't that the lid wasn't sealed -- the cup literally split down the side. So I hope they source better cups. That one blip aside, the food was really authentic and delicious. Bento 886 is as close as I remember Taiwan tasted like in my childhood - yes, more than Hualian Tai Ping Hsiang in Metro Square on Steeles. The Taiwanese fried chicken steak here was much more authentic than the other "Taiwanese" fried chicken spots like AiTaiker & Monga. It was well marinated in white pepper and sweet soy sauce, coated with chunky potato starch, then deep fried to perfection - juicy and crispy. Eating it brought me back to the memory of me (6 years old), standing in a busy night market in Taiwan, holding one chicken steak in one hand and one bubble tea in the other, hanging out with friends and family I no longer talked to. It made me homesick and nostalgic a lot. The popcorn chicken here was also very authentic--the fragrance of the deep-fried Taiwanese/Thai basil fused in the chicken, along with a single bamboo stick to eat it. Great stuff. The only minor thing was that the popcorn chicken was a bit dry, especially compared to its chicken steak. The oyster fry was another of my favourites. Juicy and sweet like what oyster tastes like in Taiwan. I hope they also serve Taiwanese oyster omelette one day - one day. The price-to-value ratio at Bento 886 was also excellent. The bento box was incredibly filling, full of delicious veggies like stir-fried bean sprouts, napa cabbage, braised minced pork, seasoned corn, a braised egg, and protein of your choice on the side. Each bento is priced at 13.50, which is highly reasonable. The interior of the shop was very nice, too. They included many Taiwanese elements, like old movie posters, while playing Taiwanese variety shows on TV (something I watched a lot with family on Saturday nights in Taiwan) and Gaji bags, lmao. The vibe is cute and cozy, albeit with very limited seating. The owner (I think?) Kevin was also very welcoming to my family and me. It's funny that he also mentioned it's been a while since he visited Taiwan, just like me fr lmao. I'll be back often, and bring my non-Taiwanese friends here, too. 4.5/5 read more

Small food court style take out resto located on Hwy 7 near Kennedy Rd. While it's mainly meant to be a take out restaurant, there are tables inside should folks want to eat their bentos on the spot. They have a good variety of different bentos and all at a reasonable price. We ordered 2 bentos and an appetizer all for under $40. The quantity of the bentos were also great for the cost. Decide to stop by for a quick snack after learning about this newly opened Bento 886 on social media. The shop seems to be a takeout spot with food items readily available. We ordered a few snacks to share, and it all came in a paper bag with some skewer sticks for utensils. The service was very good; the lady serving us could speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese. All the items had the same Taiwanese signature flavouring; it was on the saltier side. The wintermelon tea drink, on the other hand, was sweet, so it balanced the saltiness out. I would recommend the Thousand-Layer Tofu and the Turnip Cake. The Popcorn Chicken looked pretty good, but it was a bigger portion, and we didn't want to get stuffed before dinner. The staff accidently dropped off the popcorn chicken to us (and I took a picture of it anyway lol) The only item that really threw me off was the cuttlefish balls. The menu image shows 5 whole cuttlefish balls for 4.99, which sounds decent, but what we got seems to be 1-2 cuttlefish balls cut onto 3s for 4.99, which I didn't think was worth it. Amazing and cheap bentos! Ive tried the minced pork belly, braised pork belly, popcorn chicken bento and three cup chicken bentos. All are delicious and so filling! I would say this is more of a to go spot as theres only a few tables with seats but theres also a standing high top. The worker is so quick and nice. We ordered two Bento and several different fried stuff. All the fried food was impressive. It's very crispy and juicy The popcorn chicken is a must-have, which is very flavorful and tasty. As a Taiwanese, I also think it's authentic because there's basil inside the dish. There's a detail, the package. That white paper bag with red text is really THE way to hold the fried food at any street food vendors in Taiwan. The service is super friendly.
