Traditional decor but food was a letdown Atmosphere: This restaurant is decorated very well, similar to the atmosphere in Taiwan with relics and paintings to remind you of the past. There were booths throughout the restaurant and it was quite casual with it being a popular spot for families on the weekend. Food: The house special Taiwanese style minced pork on rice was okay, but more savoury and not at all like the dish in Taiwan (which is more balanced and slightly sweeter). The portion for the three cup chicken was also quite small, and didn't have much flavour other than soy sauce. The mixed meat on instant noodles was very disappointing, with very few slices of pork and a Western-style sausage rather than Taiwanese sausage, and only a single piece of brocolli (similar to the minced pork dish). The flavours of all these dishes missed the mark and were quite disappointing. The desserts tasted okay, but also could've been better, with the pudding being quite bland and the toast being too powdery. Service: The staff were helpful in trying to help us use the app to order and get the free milk pudding. With so many great food spots at First Markham Place, it's tough to make a decision on where to eat! Mabu generation was always one of those restaurants we would walked past but never actually go in.. until today. We went between lunch and dinner time and it was relatively empty. Service was quick, portion sizes were good, and food was pretty tasty for the cheap cost. Amazing service! It's been years since I have received excellent service at a restaurant. The servers were very attentive making sure your hotpot flame was filled, and your soup was filled and topped off so they often check on you for your needs. Food was decent and lots of options for food that will meet everyone's taste buds and preferences. They open until midnight on weekdays so definitely pop by for some food, snacks, bubble tea, desserts or mini individual hotpot. I personally enjoyed coming here and hanging out. This is inside the First Markham Place so be sure to come early for a parking spot as it can get full and busy during weekends and Friday nights. read more

It's such a cute spot if you want a hot pot place in a pinch. They do those individual hot pot servings. You don't get overwhelmed with all the food. They have great popcorn chicken too. I didn't get to try their other food but I'm sure it's all delicious. I just wish they'd be more attentive to their bathrooms. Found surprises in a few of them. I've always loved Taiwanese food so I had to come here. I came with a friend on a weekday because they are offering lunch specials for $15.99 with a choice of drink. You would need to scan the QR code to place the food orders. We both ordered Taiwanese salt and pepper popcorn chicken with rice. The portion was pretty decent. The popcorn chicken was good, it satisfied my cravings. They also came out with a rewards program, if you download the app you can get a free coconut pudding as first time users. Disappointing experience. After waiting for a while in the queue we were seated at a small table between two tables of diners having screaming conversations with decibels that were louder than jackhammers. The food was underwhelming and undercooked. The Beef with Rice on Sizzling Hot Plate was stirred at our table by our server. The raw egg on top was not cooked despite our server stirring and mixing the food. Perhaps the redeeming part of the meal was the Mango Slush. Came to Mabu Generation after hearing that the Flaming Kitchen in the same plaza closed down. Mabu is your typical Chinese cafe/diner that serves everything from quick snacks, bubble tea, entrees, and dessert. The place itself is decorated like a Chinese street food place, which definitely adds to the atmosphere. You place your order on your phone, so service is mostly them delivering your food, but servers are overall nice. One thing I will always do is order a Sizzling Plate if it's available. I ordered the Black Pepper/Teriyaki Beef with Cheese and Garlic. Honestly wasn't as good as Flaming Kitchen (which closed down sadly in the plaza), as the sauce was a tad watery. There was also a bit too much sauce so there was a visible pool on the bottom. It prevented the rice from getting crispy, which is the best part sadly. I also wish they added more cheese. However, it was still yummy nonetheless. I also ordered the Mango Smoothie with Mango Chunks and it was delicious! Definitely a popular item. We stayed here for nearly 3 hours and they didn't kick us out which we were grateful for! This is a great place for catching up with friends and getting a quick bite. I also got the tofu with garlic sauce. Portion wise, was very generous. The popcorn chicken was your standard fare of bubble tea popcorn chicken with a side of spicy mayo. The Taiwanese sausage was good, but the minced pork was the main star. The tofu with garlic sauce was decent, but I think it would have been amazing if I ate it fresh, as I had ordered for take out. I recommend this place for the food and atmosphere especially if you go with friends. I went with my friend and we ordered the popcorn chicken for appetizer. It's crispy and hot when served, just we were expecting for. We both loved it! The stinky Tofu hotpot is plenty for 2 person. I was skeptical at first but it turns out to be a good adventurous choice. Lots of different ingredients. It's not that stinky if you don't eat the tofu itself. Overall experience was pretty good. I came here after an event to celebrate a friend's birthday. Mabu bills itself as authentic Taiwanese cuisine and I was curious to try. I ordered the minced pork with sausage on rice bowl. It's a decent portion size. The sausage was nice, with a little bit of a sweet taste to it. The minced pork was prepared differently from others that I have tried. Most places seem to use ground pork, whereas here it looks like they chopped the pork meat very finely so the texture was different. Popped by for lunch today and there seems to be something different about menu and atmosphere of Mabu Generation. The menu has a lot more HK diner items on it and the whole time we were there the music was all Canto Pop of the 80's and 90's. I'm not a regular but I don't remember this from previous visits. No pictures this time but some of the items ordered was the satay beef and egg pineapple bun sandwich, baked chicken rice and cha siu rice. The soup was tastier (ironically) and it had more meat than its counterpart. The service is very hit or miss still and every server looks young. Like some of them are university students if I had to guess. Anyways, post-covid they are using some kind of order online system now. So not only do you scan the QR code on the table but you also have send in your order from your phone? Kinda like those ipads you would use at ayce sushi places. The physical bill still arrives after the meal. The best part of this particular meal was actually the bbq chicken cutlet. It was nice and crunchy, HUGE size and the bbq sauce added a nice tang. Came on a Friday night, and it can get quite busy. Ordered a Lu Rou Fan with Sausage (Braised Meat on Rice), Popcorn Chicken, Garlic sauce Fried Tofu, and Beef Rolls. The Braised Meat rice was really tasty, pretty decent sized bowl and a good amount of meat. The Popcorn Chicken isn't quite seasoned the way I would expect at a Taiwanese place (not enough five spice flavour?) but it comes with a tasty sauce too. Went with a few friends for dinner. Decor and vibe of the place was definitely cool. However the lighting can be a bit dark and a bit noisy for some people but I thought it was fine. They temperature check you on entry and everything is ordered through their website (but you pay in person after the meal as you would regularly do). It was a little confusing though (fear of picking the wrong table number on the app) and we almost got someone else's order by accident. The service was alright but even though they gave us bowls/utensils, they didn't give us napkins the first time which was a bit inconvenient. Plenty of water though and food came relatively quickly. For my meal, I got the Japanese creamy curry udon with shrimp tempura (13.99) and their Oreo milk tea (4.99). I thought both the curry udon and tempura were really good and I would definitely recommend. If I came back I would definitely get this dish again. I got tapioca with my drink as well. However I did think the drink was pretty average and nothing super phenomenal. I've had better bbt, esp ones with Oreo mix and the tapioca was a bit flavorless I felt. Tried this place via the Doordash app. So I can't comment on their service or ambiance. From the app, it seemd like it took them awhile to make the food. I ordered the Taiwanese style popcorn chicken on rice. It came with a tea infused hard boiled egg, 1 broccoli, popcorn chicken and rice. The broccoli was bland, the tea infused egg was good, and the popcorn chicken had mild seasoning. However, the whole dish lacked sauce. Even supplying mayo would have been nice. The rice was plain old rice that got really oily (I suspect from the fried chicken). No fault of theirs but the chicken was soggy as our driver took a long time to deliver the food while doing multiple orders at once. However, I wonder if the chicken would remain crispier if it was separated in a vented container from the rest of the dish. Overall, 3/5 - I would not order this again. We used to frequent Mabu station when they were more known for just some snacks and desserts along with BBT like drinks. Now they've expanded more into the HK cafe like style. We gone to this first Markham location and ordered up a bunch of stuff. You basically scan the QR code and order from your phone. B03-Deep Fried Durian Ball-$11 (5pcs) - There's a hint of durian flavouring in there, but not really worth the price to try. It has a mochi like texture. B02-Rice Noodle Rolls with sauce- This is standard really. L07- Taiwanese Sausage- Sliced up sausages with raw garlic. It has a nice taste to it, but I can't see it being really worth it for the price point. D03- Eel & Scrambled Egg with Rice- This was part of a lunch set if you come between the hours of 11am-5pm. The portion of this one was quite generous and worth to get as it comes with a drink choice as well. N03- Salmon & Salmon Roe with bbq sauce- This one was the most expensive item on the menu and was probably half or smaller size than the D03 meal and didn't come with a drink. If I knew I'd pay much more for smaller portion, I would've just got something else. Service here is really simple as they just bring out the item that you ordered and they have water already there for you to pour yourself. It was a little confusing at first, and as I walked up to the front counter to pay, the worker said he didn't receive my online order and I just ordered again at the front... So this online ordering system has its flaws because the same thing happened twice with my other friends. I ordered the Pork Belly on Rice. The flavours were good, and I enjoyed the pork floss as a topping. It really added to the dish. Overall, I would come here again and buy take out, but I think the new online ordering system needs some changes. I did appreciate the pictures that were included on the new system though. Cant stop going to this place and ordering practically the same items : The seafood milk and cheese hot pot (yes , it is that good but I I wish they would offer a meat version too) and the popcorn chicken :) At first , I thought this was the second location for Mabu station in the GTA but realised the name is slightly different. Even though it isn't the same name, they are indeed related as sister restaurants. As you enter inside, you feel very attracted by the beautiful decor and the trendy vibe it projects. No wonder this is a crowd favorite as it is such a cool place to hang out with your friends.. This restaurant is always packed . there is a 90 mins limit imposed from Friday to Sunday? Every time I go there, I have to wait for a table. The last time I ended waiting for 30 mins. Service has gotten ok to bad to better again. I remember one time where I tried to communicate to the waitress in Cantonese and twice, she replied back to me Mandarin so I ended up switching to English because we couldn't understand each other. When you factor in the bubble tea the price isn't bad, but I would also rather go somewhere else for a $20 lunch. I tried the popcorn chicken and the minced pork dishes, both were exactly as I expected. Nothing spectacular, I think this serves more as a comforting meal. Got that and the mini hot pot (which is enough for two people). We saw people at the table next to us order one for each person. Not bad overall, but it reminds me of Petite Potato where the selection is endless... and no matter what you order, doesn't quite hit the "satisfaction" spot. I would recommend the mini hot pot which can be a bit filling albeit it's loaded with a lot of veggies (which I don't mind). The add on items can really rack up so at that point I would say go to an actual hot pot place. With some items the cheese can be a bit scarce so just a warning.
