This is a wonderful little restaurant which serves Taiwanese beef noodle soup, including Taiwanese specialty items such as pigs' ear, cucumber salad, Taiwanese "kimchi" and lovely "stinky" tofu which my spouse and I love. Comforting beef noodles that always hits the spot! The generous portion of stinky tofu is great too, especially in recent years when the night market tofu stalls charge you an arm and a leg! We came during early dinner and there were lots of seating available. Ok wow. I didn't realize I hadn't written a review for this staple institution yet! I think they've been around since pre-2010 and it's still standing. Located at First Markham Place. As everyone's pointed out already, you walk in, you get blasted by that powerful stinky tofu smell, let it MARINATE on your nose and then in 5 min you become numb to the smell and get used to it while you're looking at the menu. A large, homemade beef noodle soup is the go-to order. I recently came back with my friends on a saturday for diner just to see if the quality had remained or gone down. Happy to report, the quality seems to have remained good! The noodles while I'm not sure whether they're made in-house anymore, certainly felt like fresh, handmade noodles as they were very chewy and had a lot of springiness to them (although I do rmbr them being much thicker in diameter). They still give you a lot of beef which is very nice. 80-90% of the beef chunks were tender. I got the occasional not-so-tender piece but for the amount of beef you're getting in each bowl that is easily forgiven. Broth is still layered and tastes complex. I can't really recall if it was better in the past since it's been SO long but it had good flavour so that's good enough for me. The dumplings remained exactly the same. Same wrappers and same filling. Seems to me like they've maintained their standards all these years! If you can tank the stinky tofu smell for the first 5 min, you will enjoy a great bowl of noodles here. read more

The braised beef had good flavour, little fat and was super tender. Wish it was a bit more but that's inflation for u. Noodles were pretty good. Broth was a bit bland but fixed that with a little bit of chili sauce. Service (4.25/5) - fast yes... you walk in and the mom comes right up to u with menu. Quick to order and refill water. Coming into this restaurant, the first thought that popped into my mind was "WOW that's stinky!!" The strong and overwhelming smell of the stinky tofu hit us and almost knocked my dad and me out. I had a strong urge to leave... But honestly, the smell is worst near the doors. Inside, once seated, you can barely smell it at all. We ordered two small beef tendon & meat soups, one small beef tendon, and one large beef tendon soup. As we prefer a stronger flavour, we asked for the pickled vegetables on the side - though they never ended up arriving. The noodles come beautifully plated, with 3 pieces of Shanghai bok choy lined up on the side. Super nitpicky detail, but I noticed that mine had three leaves, whereas my sister's had three of the insides (she therefore got more veggies!!). The texture of the noodles is great, very al dente. It's irregularly shaped, so you will have parts that are mushier than others just simply because they're thinner, etc. I had a huge clump of noodles that I ended up just leaving to the side. The broth is rich, and very well seasoned. I found the meat to be more shank than brisket, but it was very flavourful. There was also a generous portion of tendon! The large bowl of noodles has more toppings, noodles, and veggies. I found that I was quite satisfied with the small portion. We did try adding some of the spicy sesame-based sauce, but I preferred the original flavour and taste of the noodles. It's a very comforting and filling meal, and I will definitely come again to try their dry noodles! read more

The smell of the stinky tofu really hits you when you walk inside the restaurant. I found that the noodles/broth wasn't as flavourful as I expected it to be. It was on the side of being tasteless but my cousin begged to differ and loved the broth. The noodles were chewy and delicious and a decent amount of meat was given. The stinky tofu was not as stinky as I've had previously and the taste was not at all like what I've had before. I'd said it's okay but not great. My aunt found the tofu to be too dense and not as airy. The sauce that it came with was nice to dip it in. Be warned that you and the clothes you wore inside will smell when you leave. First time coming here based on recommendation. Upon opening the door, I'm hit with this strong familiar aroma. And then I see every other table has a plate of fried tofu, and everything makes sense. It comes with a dozen pieces of meat, which is pretty generous. They are also very tender to chew on, which is a must have. The broth itself is also quite clean, with very little grease in sight, with a nice subtle beef flavor. The noodles are thick and chewy, though I find that they are lacking in flavor. It's a pretty good bowl of beef noodle soup. I would be interested to see how other places are. When the bill came, I noticed that they charged a dollar less than the menu price (8.49 instead of 9.49 for the large).
