VEGAN GELATO ALERT! The blood orange vegan gelato is to DIE FOR. So refreshing! I'd love to see even more vegan flavors in the future, maybe some that are less fruity like pistachio or salted caramel. They of course have a ton of non-vegan flavors but I can't really speak on those. To all my non-dairy friends, this is definitely a place worth trying :) read more

Nice place to hang out, get a panini and gelato! The paninis are made with a thinner bread, but makes it crispy and not so heavy. Service was great, super friendly group. It's a nice spot to get work done and get some gelato. read more

An amazingly great gelato! A perfect gelato! Better than in some of Italy's gelaterias. This was the best gelato since we came back from Italy. Their hazelnut and pistachio flavors are pure, natural and not overly sweet. Silky, rich and perfectly balanced. It reminds me of famous Gelatteria Dondoli is San Gimignano. Will definitely be back. Knocking it out of the park once again. I can't recommend this place enough! Amazing coffee served at the perfect temperature, delicious gelato flavors and more. I'll be back soon to try out their paninis! The staff here are always friendly and the gentleman who owns the place makes you feel like family. I wish this was closer to where I live. I read that this gelato place is #1 in NJ! There are multiple vegan gelatos such as Hazelnut, Matcha Coconut, and multiple sorbets (eg Strawberry, Lemon). The flavor we wanted (Almond Milk Hazelnut) was available in a pint and the staff let us walk around while it thawed and scooped it for us. They also have baked goods (not vegan) and plenty of "mix-ins." The non-vegan gelatos are eggless!! I didn't try these. Located in a walkable and fun area. read more

Really enjoyed my hazelnut gelato. The thing that lost one star was the rather surly service. For $5 for a small cup, plus it was pointed out to me by the person behind the counter to add a tip, I'd at least expect a little more friendliness, and this is coming from someone who used to work retail. Me: "Thank you!" Employee: "Uh-huh..." Everyone else says this place is friendly, so maybe she was just having a bad day. read more

Yesterday the AMAZING GELATO of Benvenuti in Montclair was served at our daughter Jessica,s Bridal Shower.The presentation and attention to detail by the Owner Roger along with his AMAZING staff, was a true SHOWSTOPPER. BEST GELATO this side of Florence Italy. The cannoli ( filled on the spot) with Sicilian shells were to DIE for!!! Lemon, Nocciola, Straciatella gelato, along with Mango sorbet were our flavors of choice. Our guests were, and still are raving about it (phone didn't stop ringing today). BRAVO BENVENUTI BRAVO!!! Can't go to Italy during the pandemic by plane? Then go by mouth. This place just opened July 4th weekend and is definitely worth a try. There are other ice cream places around town but none has authentic Italian gelato, at least none as good as this. The owner says they had the gelato machine flown in from Italy (where they used to live). The machine constantly stirs each flavor to keep it fresh and give it that creamy gelato texture. Have tried several of their flavors and all have tasted elevated and fresh. My partner doesn't like to eat eggs and I learned that gelato isn't made with eggs so she enjoys it too. I tried a pint to go and it's lasted in the freezer a few days. Pints are made in thick glass containers - returnable for $1 - a nice eco-friendly touch. They also serve pastries in the morning which i haven't tried. They also panini sandwiches. I tried the mozzarella, tomato, prosciutto, tomato - great. Also fresh tasting with that nice Italian bread crunch (i got it heated in the panini press). I can easily imagine grabbing some panini and a pint of ice cream for a summer picnic. Tables outside make it easy to enjoy during the pandemic. A great addition to the Montclair food scene. Takes guts to open a new place during the pandemic and wishing them luck. I hope lots of people give them a try. read more

Stumbled upon this before a concert. I ordered a combo of chocolate and mixed berry gelato in a waffle bowl. The waffle bowl was very hard and difficult to eat. However, the gelato was great. The person who worked there offered samples. Quaint inside with really great paintings, that appear to be for sale. Will be back the next time I go to the Outpost. read more

Came here last night and tried their pistachio and mascarpone and both were very tasty. They have a small size and large size and can sample before you commit. It's a cute little shop that also sells candy (Kindereggs and Ferrero Roche). I have to try their paninis next time. read more

They were amazing with maintaining social distancing while serving us amazing gelato. Their gelato was tasty and satisfying. I'm always looking for new gelato places and this one is right there amongst the great ones. Nice and neat and good selection of gelato flavours. They also have a variety of baked goods Pistachio is my go-to and I am glad I got to try theirs. The flavour of the roasted pistachios, right amount of sweetness and the perfect creamy texture of that gelato, ah I am definitely going to come back. Also tried the Salted Caramel CBD gelato. It was like eating that buttery caramel without the pain of it being sticky. Can't wait to come back to try their other flavours, especially the Fior di Latte and Espresso. read more

Amazing gelato! You can taste the purity and high quality of the ingredients. The salted caramel was divine; perfectly creamy, you can taste caramelized sugar and the perfect amount of salt. My husband had the espresso gelato and my son had vanilla. The staff is so kind. They took their time with each customer and let everyone taste samples. Simply wonderful experience! The best gelato you'll get in America! It was seriously a taste of Italy. We weren't going to get ice cream after a filling dinner across the street at Fresco Da Franco but we couldn't help it because the owner, Roger, was outside and was so friendly. He was ensuring all his customers were enjoying their gelato and it was so nice to see. The gelato was delicious and reminded me just of the gelato I would eat in Italy. You can tell they use deliciously fresh and good quality ingredients and really take pride in complimenting the Italian culture. 100% would recommend and i am so happy there are gelaterias in the area read more

This place is amazing!! I stopped by on a Saturday to pick up some of their homemade gelato. So many flavors to choose from, but ended up getting one chocolate pint and one of the lemon sorbet. To say they were both delicious would be an understatement. My family loved both and I will certainly be back for more!! They gave me a card where they stamp each time you get a pint, and after 10 stamps, you get one free!! read more

Superb gelato that reminded me of some I had in Italy, and equally superb COVID safety standards. I've tried basically every gelato and ice cream place in the Montclair area and found others to range from "just eh" to "good, but not traditional gelato." Benvenuti is different - this place is a gem and best in the area by far. Their pistachio is particularly good, and there's also unique flavors like Salted Caramel with CBD and vegan/non-dairy matcha (my brother loved the former, the latter we will go back to try). The inside is so cute and there's also outdoor seating for the warmer months. During COVID, the staff is wearing masks properly and change their gloves to use new ones while making each item (even for different orders within the same party). After I paid with the touch screen, the staff offered me hand sanitizer which was nice. It's a bit pricy (maybe $7 ish per cup) but soooo worth it both in serving size and taste. I can't wait to go back again! read more

Best gelato outside of Italy (better than some I had in Italy tbh)! I've been four times since they soft opened just a few weeks ago. The nocciola is my favorite so far, but the caffè, fior di latte, and pistachio are also fantastic. And omg, the chocolate sorbetto! It tastes SO creamy that I can't believe it doesn't have dairy. I can't wait to try their pastries and sandwiches ASAP. Such sweet owners, too! A truly wonderful addition to Church Street that I hope stays for years to come. read more

The best way to describe it was a like it came from a chain supermarket - lacking flavor and not up to fresh quality. The only one that was edible was the chocolate slice. We felt so bad to have to throw away the other two cakes, but they were not good at all. It was a waste of money to pay so much for a slice and not eat it.

The latte I got was solid as well. The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the cafe is open a little later (8pm), which there is a lack of in Montclair, so I appreciate it for us night owls. The seating is also very nice and comfy. Some coffee shops it feels like they give you hard metal seating because they don't want you sitting too long. This place is the opposite. Nice cushions and even some more reclining type seating. I will be coming back for sure!

I entered my phone number but the promo didn't show up. After checking my phone, I realized it had just expired. I asked the attendant if, since it was for my birthday, they could honor it. She went to ask the manager. The manager came over and I explained the situation. She said no, her reasoning? "If I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone." That didn't sit right with me. How many people are really coming in every day asking to honor an expired birthday promo? For a small oversight, I'd have to wait another year to use it? It made me feel like my business didn't matter. We're talking about $5, not a free treat. I work in the financial/service industry, so I pay close attention to customer experience. This interaction said a lot: the attendant likely didn't have the authority, but the manager had the opportunity to create a positive moment and chose not to. Moments like that are where you either create a loyal customer or lose one over something small. Safe to say, this wasn't handled well. I left more disappointed than anything. I don't see myself coming back in the near future.

The service is done with heart and I've never ordered here and not had my ice cream come in a freshly baked cone. There's always a conversation a good snack. They make you feel like family when you're there and I've gone several times now for that alone. You won't find many places that are as thorough about getting to know their customers as Kurly is.
